That would be Daina. Callsign October Guard 1. The “Comrade Colonel!” referred to near the end can be an inferred reference to Col. Brekhov; the guard can pass as Schrage.
A missed chance, a G. I. Joe cameo in that episode (preferably Col. Sharpe or Gen. Hawk, Scarlett, Breaker, Stalker & Snake-Eyes, and Adm. Keel-Haul, Slipstream & Torpedo.

If you look closely at the cover of G.I.Joe ARH #7, which isseen in the video; that isn't Shturmovik but clearly Col. Brekhov standing back to back with Stalker. Which made since as they were the two squad leaders in the story.
I got a 1997 three pack with Red Star, Big Bear & Volga. In addition to Volga's real name being given as Daina (as opposed to Diana); Big Bear's real name is given as Lt, Gorky,. I considered him one guy: Lt. "Big Bear" Gorky, and when the Daina/Diana? figure appeared with a different hair color I thought they were two different characters. Then it turns out Gorky and Big Bear are different people, but Daina and Volga are the same person? I am SOOOO confused!!!😣

Paul Ley Harris : Yeah, molds got reused, recolored & renamed a lot. But in that pack, Big Bear was still Big Bear, his file name as Lt. Gorky; w/ commentary that he'd grown his beard to look less boyish or some such.. I didn't get an earlier Big Bear or latter Lt.Gorky figure; but apparently they didn't all synchronize. Maybe they hadn't planned on doing a separate mold for Gorky yet, and this was a case of consistency being discarded..

This was a great video by the way. I do have a question. I'm a a big fan of the eighties Sunbow cartoon GI Joe A Real American Hero. Considering that the Oktober Guard didn't have that many personal, who were the other two members? I recognize Colonial Brekov, Diana and Horror Show. 2nd question are there action figures for the Sunbow cartoon version of the Oktober Guard? 3rd question (I promise this is the last question) why didn't Horror Show and Gung Ho get along on the show? Thank you in advance.

    • @dinomonzon7493
      @dinomonzon7493 3 года назад +1

      The original Oktober Guard comprised:
      Col. Brekhov- Commanding Officer
      Daina- Sniper/Helicopter pilot*
      Horror Show: Anti-Armor
      Stormavik: Spetznaz Commando**
      Schrage: Infantry
Dragonsky: Flamethrower (G. I. Joe Yearbook #2- Triple Play)
After Brekhov, Horror Show, Stormavik & Schrage were KIA in G. I. Joe Special Missions #26, Daina took command, with the ff new members who debuted in G. I. Joe #101 (The New Guard)
Lt. Gorky- Naval Infantry (the Russian version of the US Marines)
Sgt. Gorky- Spetznaz Special Purpose Trooper.
Later on, in G. I. Joe #146, the Joe Star Brigade met the Guard again, now with Red Star in command. The story was a 3 parter that anticipated the events of the 1998 movie Armageddon.
      2. There was a 3 pack October Guard figure set released back in 1997, and several other versions released after that.
      3. Horror Show & Gung-Ho only met in the animated series. It was the usual rivalry trope.
      * you can add ‘eye candy’ as well in terms of looks; sure beats Lady J 😇
** Spetsnaz troopers in the 1980s were known for their striped blue & white shirts.

      1) In the cartoons, the O.G. were represented by the team members of:
      Col. Brekhov
      Daina
      Horror Show
      Wong (Chinese Cowboy)
& either Schrage or Stormavik (don't recall which it was at the moment, without seeing an episode again...)
      2) The figures were represented in comic 2pks a few years ago, BUT those were more comic based than cartoon, although you can pass them as either... Except for blonde & khaki wearing comic version Daina vs her brunette & pink parka wearing cartoon version. As far as specifically cartoon O.G. figures, not really, they were predominately comic representations... Except for Wong, who has had ZERO figures and ZERO comic representations.
      3) Horror Show & Gung-Ho didn't get along in the cartoons, because they each represented the anti-Communist/anti-American attitudes of each team, in order to provide the personality clash and character dynamics for a more entertaining episode.
(At the time of these episodes, the Cold War was in effect, but nearing its end, so there was the U.S. vs Russia rivalry, as exhibited in the Olympics, specifically regarding a stunning upset of the Russian Ice Hockey Team, by the U.S.A., in a VERY close match. In the whole GI Joe vs Cobra dichotomy, Cobra was actually created as a substitute villain, to mask the international rivalry of the USA vs USSR... Later the OG were introduced as erstwhile allies/sometimes "enemies" to bridge that gap between nations by sometimes working together against a common enemy, which was Cobra...)
So, think of Gung-Ho & Horror Show as cartoon representations of the USA & USSR Hockey Teams... They didn't much LIKE each other, but there was a mutual respect, with a little trash talking on the ice, as they tried to get the better of each other, while handling their mission, lol.

Not counting the 3 pack/2 packs of the October Guard, the one member of the October Guard who got a figure in the original 1982-1994 Joe figure line up was Red Star, who’s a Captain. He appeared in G. I. Joe #146, where it was noted that he resembled Col. Brekhov.
I said “the only member” because, a second October Guardsman seen as a figure back in the 1992-1993 line was Big Bear, who’s an anti-armor expert like Horror Show.

    • @dinomonzon7493
      @dinomonzon7493 3 года назад +1

If the Joes really faced the October Guard, one-on-one, the most likely lineup would be:
Col. Brekhov- either Gen. Joe Colton or General Hawk
Daina- either Scarlett*, or Shooter, or Wild Bill, as she’s cited and seen as the team’s Helicopter Pilot**
Stormavik- Stalker (I’d normally go with Snake-Eyes, but fans might insist on SE using only Ninja skills on him, hardly a fair fight.
      Schrage- either Footloose/Grunt/Hit & Run
      Horror Show- either Zap/Bazooka/Salvo/Heavy Duty
      Dragonsky-Blowtorch
      Sgt. Misha- Beach-Head
      Lt. Gorky- Gung-Ho.
      Wong- Wild Bill/Fastdraw***
      * Scarlett’s the only Joe who’s shown resentment/hostility to the October Guard (G. I. Joe # 7)
** in G. I. Joe Special Missions #19, a Russian HIND-A attack chopper pilots that the Guard’s pilot, Daina was ‘a real looker’.
*** Wong may be a chopper pilot, perhaps not, but given his cowboy look, Fastdraw is noted for having an ‘old West gunfighter’ persona, as cited in his filecard.

My take was that it was a play on the “Nadsat” slang in “A Clockwork Orange.” The slang was heavily based on the Russian language and “Horrorshow” derives from the Russian word “Хорошо” (roughly pronounced “orosho”) meaning “good” or “well”.

MOST people didn't know the difference, especially as kids, that they weren't necessarily close allies at that point, but Wong was a fun character with a fondness for the Old West Cowboys, which made him a good match with Wild Bill in those episodes.

      1. Daina- Czechoslovakia
      2. Schrage: East Germany
      The other members?
In G. I. Joe Yearbook #2, Col. Brekhov notes that Dragonsky fought at the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II.

Well, good ol' Larry can say that if he wants to, since he basically wrote and created the team... BUT given THAT time period, those were ALL Eastern Blok Soviet controlled countries AND lead BY Soviet Communist Russians, ergo, Warsaw Pact Countries or NOT, the Oktober Guard WAS essentially THE RUSSIAN counterpart to GI Joe.
Once the Berlin Wall fell, it was another story perhaps, but even THEN it took time for The USSR to give those countries freedom from their control, as shown by a majority RUSSIAN team dynamic, which ALSO gave them their orders, thus USSR equivalent initially, THEN Warsaw Pact potentially.
I know you feel you're an expert on this, given Sage Larry's comments, but you CAN just let it go as is, because nobody probably really cares at this point.😅😅
Either way, the OG has always been one of my favorite sub-Team type groups, and I even drew SEVERAL of the team for an online continuation of FREE cards for the TCG several years ago.

Liked the concept of the October Guard, but they never were a real match for the G. I. Joe Team in terms of personnel or technology. Odds are The A-Team could’ve dealt with them just as easily.
Col. Brekhov and Daina, & Red Star are the best characters in the team. Especially Daina, who took over following the decimation of the original team in Special Missions #26 (The Passing of the Guard). Too bad they never released a figure of her sporting that khaki halter and shorts rig. 😇
Oddly, they never had a “Political Officer”, the little gnome who ensures they sing the phrases of the three morons of Communism: Marx/Lenin/Stalin.

More importantly these are Russian special forces the top brass, so naturally they would be pretty much guaranteed to be committed believers in the tenants of communism.
