‘The Chosen’ Responds to Pride Flag ‘Controversy’ | Guest: Rep. Jessica Baker | Ep 814

  • Today we're discussing a few controversial topics, starting with a Pride flag spotted on the set of "The Chosen," a popular TV series focusing on the life of Jesus. The flag was seen attached to camera equipment in a promotional clip and belongs to a crew member, which naturally drew a lot of negative feedback. We take a look at whether this is cause for concern and what's realistic to expect from "Christian" shows. Then we move over to Florida, where an Orlando-based convention for furries (people who enjoy dressing up as anthropomorphized creatures) announced it would ban children due to a Florida Senate bill that makes exposing children to sexual performances illegal. We discuss why this move reveals a lot about the "furry" community. Then we're joined by Florida Representative Jessica Baker, who sponsored a Florida bill that allows sexual battery against a child under 12 years old to be considered a capital offense, punishable by the death penalty. She explains why this bill is important to her and why it's essential that we punish child abuse justly.

I see a ton of sinners casting stones here. This show got me back into my Bible after religion was used to prop up my abusers & silence and shame me. In order to have followers in Christ you need to be able to LEAD people TO Christ...condemning them is not always the best way. At least that is what I am being led to through discernment by shedding my judgement of others...not my job & I don't think Christ/God is looking to replace his position. We will not be judged in the end for the sins of others, but for our own. Be careful & CareFull! Blessings.

I disagree with you on this, Allie. They are doing a show about Jesus' life. It is the message of the Gospel. It is supposed to be representing the Bible. However, a pride flag symbolizes the godlessness we are fighting in the culture. TARGET, ring a bell?? No, they should not allow pride flags on their sets. If they stand for Godly values, then it is not okay to bring the symbol of depravity onto the set. Because then they are saying with this that it is okay to be like the culture around them. They should set better rules on the set, this much is clear. CANT AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ONE.

Imagine this scenario on social media today with one of your favorite pastors.. You would most certainly blow a fuse..
To your credit, the religious leaders also thought that, Jesus not putting that woman away quickly, discredited him because of who she was..
It turns out that they were wrong in Jesus's opinion.
So what mindset would you rather have? The mindset of the religious leaders who eventually killed Jesus because he didn't fit in.. or the mind of Christ..

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ."

Blessings.

Allie, the pride flag is not a small issue.
Yes, people can have different world views when working together, but this was not that. The person who displayed this was blatantly waving this on production while filming knew exactly what they were doing and the message that it sends. No Christian is upset that we can’t work with people with different world views. We do that on a daily basis at work. Christian are upset because the LGBT community keeps pushing their agenda everywhere and everyone is expected to accept it and just shrug their shoulders and say, “that’s just how it is.”
The Chosen staff should have spiritual discernment, and asked this person to remove this flag on set. Instead they defended it.

I admit I continued watching even though I was feeling convicted, because I thought the show was doing "good things." The next conviction was the Mormon connection and the comments from Dallas in regards to his Mormon friends believing in the same Jesus as he does with no evidence of them leaving Mormonism. Then, the third conviction was when I was praying, I sadly saw the actor, Jonathan Rhoummie in my mind, which I think may happen more than some may admit. I knew then I had to stop watching. Let's flip the perspective on this- If I were a wedding photographer and I understood I was being hired by an Islamic family to capture their memories for the day, I would not put a Christian flag on my camera or wear some sort of Christian religious t-shirt as I worked. It would be tasteless and rude. Not because I don't believe in Jesus while I'm there, but because my opportunities to witness and represent Jesus in my behavior and kindess would not be seen because I'd be pushing my agenda in their face on a special day for them. It would be inappropriate and in poor taste. I would probably be fired on the spot and I wouldn't blame them. There's a time and a place. This gay or gay supporting photographer is crapping where they eat. You don't use your livelihood or company time to push personal and controversial agenda unless you own the business. This photographer is obviously aware of what most Christians stand for when it comes to alternative lifestyles. They knew putting a gay pride flag on their camera was going to cause controversy and take the focus off the story of Jesus. Christians need to make a stronger stand on what we believe. The second that flag was pulled out, Dallas Jenkins should have asked him/her to remove it or leave the set. It's in poor taste, it's distraction, and it detracts from the goal and calling of Dallas's vision for the show. We applaud Christian cake makers for not participating in gay weddings, but THIS action by the other side is OK on OUR turf? NOPE. This too public of a platform to display compromise. It's confusing to the world and I can't believe you're supporting this move.

I worry that people are just so addicted to the show that they try very hard to defend it. I really have a hard time with the fact that someone has created a show that is supposed to depict Jesus, who is God, and 95% of it is fiction. How would we feel about someone making a show about us that everyone would watch to learn about our lives and 95% was made up? And this is God they are trying to depict. I just don't get it. It is more concerning to realize that the people who are working together on set to create this depiction are not all genuine believers.

I listened to interviews from the actor that portrays Jesus and Dallas Jenkins, the main producer of the series. Who knew we are to NOT make images of Jesus Christ?! Imo, they're taking great license in portraying Jesus as almost flawed, "too human". I think it's done to make him "relatable" to people that don't know The Bible's teachings. I pray that believers will also start calling homosexuality the Biblical term of sodomy in reference to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities because of the gravity of it (Genesis 19). They were destroyed as an example for anyone following after it. Jude 1:7 says, "Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." Sodomy is clearly an abomination, although it is not the only sin that will lead souls to hellfire and keeping them from entering into the Kingdom of God. Romans 1:18-32 and 1st Corinthians 6:9-11 are very powerful indeed. We are definitely living in the last days, meaning the AUTHENTIC Jesus is returning QUICKLY to judge the world for its sins!!!!!!!! Lord Jesus, please strengthen us to live holy as You are holy and help us to let our lights shine bright and to share the truth of the Gospel in these last days without compromise with no fear of men but in obedience to Your will in the fear and admonition of the Lord God that we will hear according to Matthew 25:21, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Exactly. If it's a ministry (and I would argue that The Chosen is a ministry since it purports to preach/teach Christ and His Gospel), then we cannot be unequally yoked: we must only work with Christians. If it's a business, we are free to hire whomever, but just like any employer, there are on-the-job rules by which all employees must abide. Ez 44: 23 "Moreover, they shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean". We are called upon to be strong in our faith and true to His word. The rainbow is not unclean but the way it is being used and combined with one of the 7 deadly sins, pride, in which there is celebration of what is unclean in the eyes of God needs to be avoided. Totally disappointed in your take on The Chosen. You seem to want to stay neutral on it, but why? This isn't an isolated incident, and it's not innocent. The creators of the show continually and happily align themselves with people who have no business being involved in portraying Jesus in any capacity. Dallas Jenkins might give a good interview and know the right things to say, but even just a casual glance at the way he treats everyday people who disagree with him will leave you wondering if he knows Christ at all. For goodness sake, the man thought it was okay to put a marketing campaign in place that depicted devil horns painted on The Chosen movie posters, and acted like they had really been defaced. Then was incredulous that anyone would find issue with his outright lie. He gaslights anyone who disagrees with him. What else does he or the people involved in the show have to do before people see who they really are? I just don't get it. There are a lot of issues that Christians can agree to disagree on, but to me, this is not one of them. Christians should look at The Chosen, Dallas Jenkins, and everyone involved with them and say "NO THANKS." It'll even be easier than not shopping at Target.
