One of the most interesting things I've heard regarding the homebuyer's market is how many people used to purchase a prefab house from a retail/mail-order catalog (from Sears/Simpsons, for example), and once delivered, neighbors would help put it together on a simple plot of land over the course of a few days. The total cost was in the range of an average/new electric car by today's standards (i.e., around $50,000 current USD value [or less]). I know that doesn't compare with a house like the one in the vid, but it's cool to know that there were options for virtually anyone with a job or small business; hopefully, we'll return to that soon.
