Brilliant, mate! Just what I needed right now as I’ve been venturing back into BM3 recently experimenting with a more sample-based workflow style. This one bank method makes everything so much more manageable. I’m liking the look and use of that Launch Control XL for triggering scenes and tweaking sounds on the fly. I’m still not a ‘live jammer’ myself, but everytime you make a tutorial like this one, it really makes me want to try it. Love the fact that you don’t even have to touch the iPad to drive the track and manipulate the sounds. I want to be at the controls in this way!! 🤣 Thanks for going into such detail on this workflow and technique. Brilliantly explained. 🎛🎚🤓👍

SpiderIcemidas, You are so right, Dean you do them right. The LC XL is my fave controller. I use it in AUM and it even remembers the settings when you reload the last sessions. Launchpad Pro for Ableton and LC XL for iPad.

Hi , for your experience, it’s possible to make a long live set ( 1 hour ) using scene mode ? I use an IPad Pro 2015 . I’m talking about the cpu. In 1 hour I need 10 banks and every bank got 10 samples.
Sorry, I have no idea. I would guess yes, but can't be sure. I have not done that. I don't think you can have 10 separate banks all working like this one - this is a more of a one bank workflow.😀 👊
Definitely a good idea with ground hum problems to use the battery, I do find with some of the battery packs though turn themselves off after a certain time limit which is a pain.i got a smaller Anker pack which does that, you have to press the front button to start it again. Not good for live use !

Hey Hey! Not OT at all, Bro! I had *help* with my room and the desk. 😀 👊 I tried my best to get this room sounding super dry and clean, and reflection free, but I was not able to get it acoustically where I wanted it, so I called in outside help from Pro Audio LA, and two hard-working joe's did my entire room's acoustic treatment - it took 5 full days. One of them was kind enough to listen to my needs, and help me design this desk from scratch, we did a lot of measuring of exactly how I sit in this chair to get the desk at the best height ergonomically, and to fit the room, etc. He then built the desk in his workshop, stained it the blue I asked for and brought it over in a few pieces when it was ready for final assembly in my room. 😲 None of this was cheap, but I'm not a carpenter really, nor do I own these kind of tools. 🤓 At the end of the day though, this room is *officially* my dream studio. I absolutely love this space and the way the room feels and *sounds*. ❤️ (Not bragging, just happy with my life's work at this very moment! 😏👊) (and feeling grateful and blessed - every day when I walk in to this room!)

There is no import/export for controller mappings. It doesn't make sense. it's *quick and easy* to assign your midi controllers yo BM3. Hey Hey - thanks for watching! 😀 👊 You can actually have up to 128 scenes in the bank if you keep building. You could use a 64 pad controller (Like a Novation launchpad for example) to trigger 64 scenes... I think you might have to trigger scenes 65-128 by hand by touching the iPad... (not sure...) 😏 *How long you could jam or perform for* would depend on a lot of factors imho: How many scenes you built ahead of time How you set up the macros to move sounds in real-time during the performance If you have a bank or two of sounds in BM3 to play in real-time during the performance if you have some external synth, drum machine, sampler or groovebox connected You could easily make a one-bank live set that could last well over an hour even with no external gear. You would need to build a lot of scenes though! 😏 I don't play out personally, so I don't need to play extended length sessions, and most of my jams max out at around 16 scenes.

Electronic Music is my life - it defines me. 🤓 I use everything in here in so many different ways - sometimes as sound designer and sample maker ( www.Electronisounds.com ), and sometimes to make finished tracks for my music moniker "Prizm Prime" ( www.beatport.com/artist/prizm-prime/389343 ), and sometimes to make live jams and videos for this channel. I don't actually "play out" live, so what you see me doing with my live jams on this channel is as "serious" as I get in playing live. 😏 I consider my self a "Hybrid Producer" - in that I don't only produce in one way. For instance, i'm currently making a super long "Making a Dub Techno Track In The AKAI Force" Video Series on this channel in which *almost all* of the sounds were recorded out of an iPad into the AKAI Force using various different techniques in the first 3 episodes. Now i'm building a finished track using those sounds recorded from the iPad as the main sounds in that track. *If you are asking if I make "full, robust, finished and released tracks" using only an iPad and nothing else, the answer is no.* 😏 Currently, the only tools I have that I feel go deep enough for me to make "full, finished tracks" that I am happy with - would be: Ableton Live on my giant desktop system (32gigs of ram) AKAI Force AKAI MPC Live The main reason for this is that I need the processing power that these tools provide. My iPad does not even come close to the processing power of the other tools. imho, one can do a LOT of amazing music production stuff with an iPad, but I wouldn't want it to be my only music production tool. If it was my only tool, I would be looking to get more tools. 😏 Sorry for the long explanation... 😀 👊
Electronisounds Audio thankyou for your answer, I asked that because I’ve just bought an used 2017 12.9 inch iPad pro thinking about using it as my main live performance tool (using some midi surfaces, keys and pads), and as a synth source for “serious electronic music production (moog apps, zeeon and all that stuff). I just want to be able of getting all the power of this thing.

Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 I'm not sure if we can do live looping with audio in BM3, it's not really meant for that I don't think. A long time ago, I was attempting to do some live looping with MIDI only in BM3, and it was not so great at it, imho... ;) It would OFTEN not record the "downbeat" of whatever you played - among other odd anomalies... I pretty much stopped trying to live loop with BM3 after that. I had some good experiences with quantiloop, but I haven't played with it in a very, very long time. ;) GOOD LUCK, Bro!😃
Hola Renato...hace un tiempo que estoy experimentando con BM3 para live looping con audio, guitarra, voz, drum machines, algunos sintetizadores, etc. La verdad es que no es una aplicación pensada para eso, pero se puede usar. Aun estoy resolviendo el workflow, pero hasta ahora te puedo decir que tienes que trabajar en scene mode y tener todos tus banks, escenas y sus pistas de audio (con su rooting hacia las respectivas aplicaciones externas) previamente definidas. Luego en cada pista de audio puedes ir grabando en vivo tus instrumentos como samples (que se reproducen como loops en su escena correspondiente) y de ahí vas haciendo las layers que requieras...puedes agregar efectos internos de BM3 o externos y asociarlos según necesites a cada bank. En experiencia personal, creo que la forma es pre-configurar toda tu session de antemano, y luego sólo grabar y mezclar en vivo sobre ella. Una gran virtud de BM3 es el detalle de personalización que puedes lograr, también puedes asignar macros a un controlador midi (yo ocupo akai mpk mini) y así lanzar sonidos o efectos que necesites dentro de tu live looping session.

I have been experimenting with BM3 for a while now for live looping with audio, guitar, voice, drum machines, some synthesizers, etc. The truth is that it is not an application designed for that, but it can be used. I am still solving the workflow, but so far I can tell you that you have to work in scene mode and have all your banks, scenes and their audio tracks (with their rooting towards the respective external applications) previously defined. In personal experience, I think the way is to pre-configure all your session in advance, and then just record and mix live on it. A great virtue of BM3 is the personalization detail that you can achieve, you can also assign macros to a midi controller (I occupy akai mpk mini) and thus launch sounds or effects that you need inside your live looping session.

I wish intua would add a scene sync setting of play next scene at the end of current scene. When I have a 16 (or sometimes even a 32 bar long trance build up pattern) you have to be super sharp to not trigger next scene before the last bar is playing. BM3 progress window is small and the bar count doesn’t always display bar count accurately within current bar playing.
@@ElectronisoundsAudio it’s because of you and your bm3 videos that I learnt to use it inside out. I often play live with it with various midi controllers. But sometimes miss full hardware setup… so I also use an emx1 driving a virus ti or Blofeld/td3. Just bagged an rm1x. Used to have one back in the day. Bought one again. Love having more than just 4 bars like what a lot of modern grooveboxes give. Trance needs nice 16 builds. Yeah you can chain patterns but it’s not optimal. It just ain’t! Rant over 😅
Bought BM3 recently, and have been finding it really unintuitive to get into. Was even considering a refund. But this video has blown my mind. Such crazy possibilities to think about.

I do have just one very newb question, to work out if what I want to do is even attainable. Is it possible to have scenes made of loops that have varying lengths. For instance, if I wanted to do longer-form ambient material, is it possible to have, say, a drone triggered from one pad that runs the entire length of the track with other pads triggering other loops/sections of varying lengths. And honestly, man! Don't need any real detail, at this point. Just need to know if that's a workflow that I can use BM3 for, or if I should just reserve that kind of thing of r a traditional, linear DAW? Thanks! (especially for answering questions on an almost 3-year-old video ;) )

I think that *might* be possible if you use different banks for each sound and switch between the banks to change scenes *individually* on the different sounds, not from one bank where you can have all the pads on that bank turning on/off other parts that are all at different beats per measure. For example, starting a new scene on the bank would restart your drone sound from the beginning each time you change to a new scene. I might suggest taking a deep look at the AUM app to do what you want. You can setup different sounds there - each with it's OWN SEQUENCER and own pattern length(s) (choose any ios AUv3 sequencers...) and mute/unmute as needed with just ONE midi controller assigned to *whatever you need to control*. It's an awesome environment for live, ambient stuff, generative chilled music and LOADS of tutorials already out there on AUM as well. 😁👊

I do have AUM, and was planning on using it to sound-design by combining sounds from various sources, then bouncing down to audio for further editing and processing within BM3. I thought once there, it'd be easy to set up performances. But perhaps I'm just going to be fighting agains the nature of these apps, when all of this could be done so much more easily on my laptop. I guess I could even transfer the processed stuff back into AUM for live-jamming. Or maybe using different banks would be a workable solution. For the moment, i should just concentrate on learning AUM and get a basic knowledge of BM3, then see what comes from there. Cheers, man!
Hey Hey! You can change the KEY if you just program the notes in that scene to change as needed - you'll need to program that manually. There is no way I know of to change tempo per scene, though. 😁👊

I don't actually "play out" live, so what you see me doing with my live jams on this channel is as "serious" as I get in playing live. 😏
I consider my self a "Hybrid Producer" - in that I don't only produce in one way.
For instance, i'm currently making a super long "Making a Dub Techno Track In The AKAI Force" Video Series on this channel in which *almost all* of the sounds were recorded out of an iPad into the AKAI Force using various different techniques in the first 3 episodes. Now i'm building a finished track using those sounds recorded from the iPad as the main sounds in that track.
*If you are asking if I make "full, robust, finished and released tracks" using only an iPad and nothing else, the answer is no.* 😏
Currently, the only tools I have that I feel go deep enough for me to make "full, finished tracks" that I am happy with - would be:
Ableton Live on my giant desktop system (32gigs of ram)
AKAI Force
AKAI MPC Live
The main reason for this is that I need the processing power that these tools provide.
My iPad does not even come close to the processing power of the other tools.
imho, one can do a LOT of amazing music production stuff with an iPad, but I wouldn't want it to be my only music production tool.
If it was my only tool, I would be looking to get more tools. 😏

Electronisounds Audio thankyou for your answer, I asked that because I’ve just bought an used 2017 12.9 inch iPad pro thinking about using it as my main live performance tool (using some midi surfaces, keys and pads), and as a synth source for “serious electronic music production (moog apps, zeeon and all that stuff). I just want to be able of getting all the power of this thing.

I really suggest looking into an an audio interface if you want to get pro quality sound into or out from the iPad.
Night and day better sound quality than any headphone jack or lighting adapter to headphone jack. 👍

Would you mind helping me to make a live looping (with vocals and guitar apps that I have) session from your experience? I used Quantloop with gadget, but I’d like to use in BM3 ‘cause it is very customizable and lets us put all drumming in time as well... but I don’t know how to work in scenes with live audio looping on the fly. I'm not sure if we can do live looping with audio in BM3, it's not really meant for that I don't think.
A long time ago, I was attempting to do some live looping with MIDI only in BM3, and it was not so great at it, imho...

It would OFTEN not record the "downbeat" of whatever you played - among other odd anomalies...
I pretty much stopped trying to live loop with BM3 after that.
I had some good experiences with quantiloop, but I haven't played with it in a very, very long time. ;)

Hola Renato...hace un tiempo que estoy experimentando con BM3 para live looping con audio, guitarra, voz, drum machines, algunos sintetizadores, etc. La verdad es que no es una aplicación pensada para eso, pero se puede usar. Aun estoy resolviendo el workflow, pero hasta ahora te puedo decir que tienes que trabajar en scene mode y tener todos tus banks, escenas y sus pistas de audio (con su rooting hacia las respectivas aplicaciones externas) previamente definidas. Luego en cada pista de audio puedes ir grabando en vivo tus instrumentos como samples (que se reproducen como loops en su escena correspondiente) y de ahí vas haciendo las layers que requieras...puedes agregar efectos internos de BM3 o externos y asociarlos según necesites a cada bank. En experiencia personal, creo que la forma es pre-configurar toda tu session de antemano, y luego sólo grabar y mezclar en vivo sobre ella. Una gran virtud de BM3 es el detalle de personalización que puedes lograr, también puedes asignar macros a un controlador midi (yo ocupo akai mpk mini) y así lanzar sonidos o efectos que necesites dentro de tu live looping session.

Hello Renato ... I have been experimenting with BM3 for a while now for live looping with audio, guitar, voice, drum machines, some synthesizers, etc. The truth is that it is not an application designed for that, but it can be used. I am still solving the workflow, but so far I can tell you that you have to work in scene mode and have all your banks, scenes and their audio tracks (with their rooting towards the respective external applications) previously defined. Then on each audio track you can go live recording your instruments as samples (which are played as loops in their corresponding scene) and from there you make the layers you need ... you can add internal BM3 or external effects and associate them as needed to each bank. In personal experience, I think the way is to pre-configure all your session in advance, and then just record and mix live on it. A great virtue of BM3 is the personalization detail that you can achieve, you can also assign macros to a midi controller (I occupy akai mpk mini) and thus launch sounds or effects that you need inside your live looping session.

I wish intua would add a scene sync setting of play next scene at the end of current scene. When I have a 16 (or sometimes even a 32 bar long trance build up pattern) you have to be super sharp to not trigger next scene before the last bar is playing. BM3 progress window is small and the bar count doesn’t always display bar count accurately within current bar playing.

@@ElectronisoundsAudio it’s because of you and your bm3 videos that I learnt to use it inside out. I often play live with it with various midi controllers. But sometimes miss full hardware setup… so I also use an emx1 driving a virus ti or Blofeld/td3. Just bagged an rm1x. Used to have one back in the day. Bought one again. Love having more than just 4 bars like what a lot of modern grooveboxes give. Trance needs nice 16 builds. Yeah you can chain patterns but it’s not optimal. It just ain’t! Rant over 😅

I do have just one very newb question, to work out if what I want to do is even attainable. Is it possible to have scenes made of loops that have varying lengths. For instance, if I wanted to do longer-form ambient material, is it possible to have, say, a drone triggered from one pad that runs the entire length of the track with other pads triggering other loops/sections of varying lengths.
And honestly, man! Don't need any real detail, at this point. Just need to know if that's a workflow that I can use BM3 for, or if I should just reserve that kind of thing of r a traditional, linear DAW?

I think that *might* be possible if you use different banks for each sound and switch between the banks to change scenes *individually* on the different sounds, not from one bank where you can have all the pads on that bank turning on/off other parts that are all at different beats per measure. For example, starting a new scene on the bank would restart your drone sound from the beginning each time you change to a new scene.
I might suggest taking a deep look at the AUM app to do what you want. You can setup different sounds there - each with it's OWN SEQUENCER and own pattern length(s) (choose any ios AUv3 sequencers...) and mute/unmute as needed with just ONE midi controller assigned to *whatever you need to control*. It's an awesome environment for live, ambient stuff, generative chilled music and LOADS of tutorials already out there on AUM as well. 😁👊

I do have AUM, and was planning on using it to sound-design by combining sounds from various sources, then bouncing down to audio for further editing and processing within BM3. I thought once there, it'd be easy to set up performances. But perhaps I'm just going to be fighting agains the nature of these apps, when all of this could be done so much more easily on my laptop.
I guess I could even transfer the processed stuff back into AUM for live-jamming. Or maybe using different banks would be a workable solution.
For the moment, i should just concentrate on learning AUM and get a basic knowledge of BM3, then see what comes from there.

Can I change the key or tempo of a scene?
Hey Hey! You can change the KEY if you just program the notes in that scene to change as needed - you'll need to program that manually. There is no way I know of to change tempo per scene, though. 😁👊
