I love how he talks about honor despite the game being about the death of traditional honor. I think that Ghost of Tsushima shows that honor is found in many ways, sometimes sacrifice of another kind of honor.
Well, it still means it's about honor. Plus, you're constantly in contact with the traditional concept of honor through the game AAAAAND you can choose whether or not to go loud and honorable instead of stealthy.

The major flaw here is that those “quintessential male values” are also important for women. They aren’t male values. They’re human values. You fight to protect the ones you love. First and foremost you secure the safety of those people. No one has ever done anything else.
Yeah they are important for women but it was usually men that would just fight and women would take care of the children, plus that sounds like a bad game just taking care of kids instead of fighting in battles

That does not mean women don't fight and struggle (historically) to take care and protect their families. Plus, historically there has been a decent amount of female warriors, and more then a handful of warlords.
There's no way you played the whole game; both Lady Masasko and Yuna's story and your take-away was still that men should protect women. It's such a beautiful story about breaking tradition and building your own set of values. That was clear from the beginning of the game when he broke his vows/code of honor as a samurai.

U brain dead fool. All the lady “fighters” in this game like Masako and Yuna are bow weilders. And they use Bows and stealth tactics for a reason. Because if they actually went against a man face to face, with honor they will be slaughtered in seconds. Thats the whole message behind the story.
Missed the mark here fairly spectacularly. Several of the key warrior characters in the story are women which is not ahistorical. Seems like he read the synopsis did a quick visual scan to see if the protagonist was male and launched this take. Love the game, just strange to see it misrepresented.
He didn't say anything about women other than "men should protect women" basically. And that statement is true, but he never said anything about how women shouldn't also defended there country. He actually hit the mark spot on with his statements. People getting mad over realistic video games is retarded. They pretty much ruined battlefield V with that.
@@TrueGamer22887 I'd have to disagree. I find the story and gameplay more compelling than the most recent AC games I've played (Origins and Odyssey). At the very least, the Japanese setting is refreshingly unique, as a member of a western audience.

Fun fact: A bunch of lefties accused Sucker Punch (the developers of the game) of "cultural appropriation" and said the game was offensive to Japanese people. Meanwhile the actual island of Tsushima made the two lead game designers official ambassadors to Tsushima because it was relatively unknown until the game came out. 😂

Amen probably my favorite aspect of the game. Loved everything about the game, but I would find myself just riding around and watching the scenery and wandering. Then I would kill some Mongals. 👹

But the story is about Jin going against the Samurai (masculine) values and become the Ghost, which utilises stealth, poison and other tricks, taught to him by Yuna the female thief. It’s a story about where the traditional code of honour wasn’t realistic anymore to cope with the cunning Mongols.
That honestly couldn’t be further from the truth, Yuna literally saves your fucking life and teaches you how to be a ghost and lady masako is one of the best samurai’s on the island

Not only does relating the game to his view of modern discussions on "social justice" seem odd, the video seems to misunderstand a fair amount of Japanese history and values.
Jin and Lord Shimura both were great representatives of masculinity and about sacrificing for a cause greater than yourself. It is the best game ive played in years and was not woke garbage. It was dark and real and weighed decisions and their outcomes, eventually going against the grain and family to save their people. Loved it, 12/10.
I feel like it also touches on the conflict of tradition and moving past it. Lord Shimura is a man of Tradition willing to lay down his life to save the island of Tsushima meanwhile Jin fights in between the lines of Samurai and thief. He's evolved into something his uncle somewhat feared.....he didn't want Jin to go to the other side but once Lord Shimura saw what had become of his Nephew it was already too late. Its a beautiful story honestly and made me cry multiple times

Isn’t like the main moral conflict of the game about Jin forsaking his “male honor” in order to actually save his home? Hell, two of your three allies at the end are warrior women, one also being kinda a samurai
Funnily enough a woman, teaches Jin that sometimes honor is not the only way or the perfect way as Jin had to become underhanded to survive, but service is the main goal all should strive for. At least that’s what I learned.

Honestly I’m not so sure those games would get the type of lauding this one received from him I agree he should do more reviews, but not for the reasons you have.; I think those games you noted might actually get panned because they lack substance

Male values? The whole journey of Jin is a struggle between the so called "male values" and the adoption of new values inspired by Yuna, a female that doesn't need protection. It turns out that the male values were kinda limiting against an enemy that doesn't give a shit about code, so Yuna's actions and influence on Jin is what saved the island. There's also Masako and Tomoe. Every female character in that story is a great warrior that doesn't need to be protected. The story in Ghost of Tsushima is not about males defending females. It's about strong people defending helpless people. Wokeness and anti-wokeness are obnoxious by equal measure. Both miss the point entirely.
"Woke" doesn't have any significant meaning. Conservatives just use the word to virtue signal about the things they like and the things they don't. Similar to communism/socialism/marxism. The game is actually quite "woke" in the since that Jin is chronically aware of the shortcomings of the society he lives in and tries to grow past them for the sake of his people and his home. The climax of the game is Jin dueling with his old conservative uncle because his uncle is concerned with Jin breaking away from traditional values. Perhaps you didn't actually play the game?
This, and the fact he somehow drew the conclusion of “men protect women”, when there were SEVERAL strong women in the game, such as Lady Masako and Yuna, who are seen protecting men who can’t defend themselves. In the same way they shouldn’t include modern identity politics in a game set in the 1200s, I’m not sure why you use it as a platform to push yours. You praise them for just focusing on telling the story, and I completely agree. They did right by the game with that. I think you should focus on just experiencing the story. It has nothing to do with what your video is really about
My husband loved this game - he even continued playing to complete it after he beat it - something he normally won't bother with. He was pretty shocked it didn't get more game awards

Did they forget about lady adechi, a samurai in her own right (who also turned out to have a female lover) and Yuna, a thief who stands next to the samurai MC who also saves his life in the very beginning. The game is awesome and the story compelling but it doesn't fit the sjw narrative. It also sold brilliantly well

The whole story is about sacrificing your honor if you need to do that to save everybody. One of the major characters who leads and gives guides is a cunning female thief who is MORE than capable of fending for herself. Lord Ishikawa has a student named Tomoe who was the most skilled trainee he had ever had. Lady Masako is a strong female samurai who seeks vengeance for her family (not to mention she's bisexual). I'm pretty sure there's also a whole section where Jin helps out two homosexual guys (part of a sidequest). Lol tell me you've never played the game without telling me you've never played the game. Edit: I pretty much forgot to mention one of my favorite missions of all time - The Ghost of Yarikawa. Jin rallies the ENTIRE village of Yarikawa to support the samurai. And I mean the ENTIRE village, men, women, whatever.

yuna one of the main characters is also one of the strongest female assassins in the game, the game is about jin going against his samurai honor by choosing to defend his people instead becoming the ghost, masako has a female lover, there are plenty of female fighters… we all know how triggered he would be if he actually played the game💀

Its not supposed to be a men defending women thing, one of, if not the main side character is a female, shes also badass, her name is Yuna, and she defends her weaker blacksmith brother
SPOILERS: Yuna and Masako are true strong female leads. Taka, Yuna's brother, was sexually abused as a child. Masako had a romantic relationship with a female maid. Jins's father had a hidden relationship with their maid too. But nobody thought it was woke because the storytelling was very good.
Nobody tell him about Yuna and Masako, and Tomoe… and the Eagle… He was close but missed the mark. Instead of making it exclusively about how mistreated women are and how they should be fighting in wars and making that the sole premise of the game, we see women fighting alongside men equally. All the characters in the game with the same thing, liberation from the Mongols and safety for the people on their island. Yuna is the sole benefactor of Jin’s conversion into the Ghost. She is as much responsible for the liberation of the island as Jin is and fights beside him as one of his closest confidants and friends. I liked this game so much because it never felt as though the game was trying to force me to believe that these women HAD to be in the game. They were just there and treated as humans and not agendas that had to be met. As a woman that was refreshing.
Despite some intentional bending of history, game takes place in the 13th century, katana becoming vogue in the 14th century, and Bushido being a 19th century philosophy retroactively applied to most of Japanese history. I'll take the game for what it is, an interactive Kurosawa film.

The comment section makes me happy. It shows who played the game and who is commenting on the game after watching a trailer. This game probably didn’t give a shit about Woke army but didn’t give a shit about right wing troll like this guy either. Some of the key points from the game that totally contradicts this guy’s points: 1. One of the main big theme about the game is how the honor died at the beach. 2. Jin’s father is constantly ostracized for showing toxic male characteristics such as being harsh to Jin for any of his non warrior interests such as playing flute. 3. Jin’s uncle is constantly ostracized for being a conservative. Times were changing but Jin’s uncle didn’t want to adapt. 4. Female characters weren’t just home makers but they defended their home and family which was something that was expected of Samurai’s wives irl. Lady Masako and Yuna weren’t cooking in the kitchen they directly partook in resistance to drive back the invaders. Lastly, I want to add that if any of you ever studied history of Sengaku Jedai era you would know that for all the talk of honor in Samurai society they were wayyyy bigger of backstabber than actual shady characters like Ninjas.

I think he'd be shocked if he found out that a good amount of Samurai did have relationships with each other because Japanese people had a completely different view on sexuality back then. There's even well known Samurai that could have been bisexual or gay because of the stuff we've uncovered. Sometimes the master would be given PAYMENT after he trained his apprentice if that's what he wanted. It's very interesting history.

They theme of the story is also that the way of the samurai was ineffective against the Mongols. Essentially it encompasses everything contrary to what he commented.

The Mongols did conquer it before they attacked mainland Japan. It is loosely based on historical fact.

Jin and Lord Shimura both were great representatives of masculinity and about sacrificing for a cause greater than yourself. It is the best game ive played in years and was not woke garbage. It was dark and real and weighed decisions and their outcomes, eventually going against the grain and family to save their people. Loved it, 12/10.
I feel like it also touches on the conflict of tradition and moving past it. Lord Shimura is a man of Tradition willing to lay down his life to save the island of Tsushima meanwhile Jin fights in between the lines of Samurai and thief. He's evolved into something his uncle somewhat feared.....he didn't want Jin to go to the other side but once Lord Shimura saw what had become of his Nephew it was already too late. Its a beautiful story honestly and made me cry multiple times

Male values? The whole journey of Jin is a struggle between the so called "male values" and the adoption of new values inspired by Yuna, a female that doesn't need protection. It turns out that the male values were kinda limiting against an enemy that doesn't give a shit about code, so Yuna's actions and influence on Jin is what saved the island. There's also Masako and Tomoe. Every female character in that story is a great warrior that doesn't need to be protected.
The story in Ghost of Tsushima is not about males defending females. It's about strong people defending helpless people.

The game is actually quite "woke" in the since that Jin is chronically aware of the shortcomings of the society he lives in and tries to grow past them for the sake of his people and his home. The climax of the game is Jin dueling with his old conservative uncle because his uncle is concerned with Jin breaking away from traditional values. Perhaps you didn't actually play the game?
This, and the fact he somehow drew the conclusion of “men protect women”, when there were SEVERAL strong women in the game, such as Lady Masako and Yuna, who are seen protecting men who can’t defend themselves. The main character's right hand was also a female peasant thief.
The whole story is about sacrificing your honor if you need to do that to save everybody. One of the major characters who leads and gives guides is a cunning female thief who is MORE than capable of fending for herself. Lord Ishikawa has a student named Tomoe who was the most skilled trainee he had ever had. Lady Masako is a strong female samurai who seeks vengeance for her family (not to mention she's bisexual). I'm pretty sure there's also a whole section where Jin helps out two homosexual guys (part of a sidequest).

Edit: I pretty much forgot to mention one of my favorite missions of all time - The Ghost of Yarikawa. Jin rallies the ENTIRE village of Yarikawa to support the samurai. And I mean the ENTIRE village, men, women, whatever.

SPOILERS:
Yuna and Masako are true strong female leads. Taka, Yuna's brother, was sexually abused as a child. Masako had a romantic relationship with a female maid. Jins's father had a hidden relationship with their maid too. But nobody thought it was woke because the storytelling was very good.
Nobody tell him about Yuna and Masako, and Tomoe… and the Eagle…
He was close but missed the mark. Instead of making it exclusively about how mistreated women are and how they should be fighting in wars and making that the sole premise of the game, we see women fighting alongside men equally. All the characters in the game with the same thing, liberation from the Mongols and safety for the people on their island.
Yuna is the sole benefactor of Jin’s conversion into the Ghost. She is as much responsible for the liberation of the island as Jin is and fights beside him as one of his closest confidants and friends.
I liked this game so much because it never felt as though the game was trying to force me to believe that these women HAD to be in the game. They were just there and treated as humans and not agendas that had to be met.
As a woman that was refreshing.
Despite some intentional bending of history, game takes place in the 13th century, katana becoming vogue in the 14th century, and Bushido being a 19th century philosophy retroactively applied to most of Japanese history. I'll take the game for what it is, an interactive Kurosawa film.

Some of the key points from the game that totally contradicts this guy’s points:
1. One of the main big theme about the game is how the honor died at the beach.
2. Jin’s father is constantly ostracized for showing toxic male characteristics such as being harsh to Jin for any of his non warrior interests such as playing flute.
3. Jin’s uncle is constantly ostracized for being a conservative. Times were changing but Jin’s uncle didn’t want to adapt.
4. Female characters weren’t just home makers but they defended their home and family which was something that was expected of Samurai’s wives irl. Lady Masako and Yuna weren’t cooking in the kitchen they directly partook in resistance to drive back the invaders.
Lastly, I want to add that if any of you ever studied history of Sengaku Jedai era you would know that for all the talk of honor in Samurai society they were wayyyy bigger of backstabber than actual shady characters like Ninjas.
This was the worst thing I ever watched.

There's even well known Samurai that could have been bisexual or gay because of the stuff we've uncovered.
