A broken car gives Cheeveyo a chance to showcase his hidden talent! This is impressive. Great job, literally! And not forgetting Tia with her cooking skills!
Tia, you can use the stalk of the broccoli too, just cut it thinly so it cooks faster. 😍😋🇦🇺
you two really know how to take challenges in your stride.....................you are both great together. Travel safely and enjoy rest of your tour
Ruby definitely aint no Blueberry, glad you got her fixed and are on your way.... Love the look on Tias face whenever Ruby beeps now... 😁
Hahaha I caught that in the edit, too. The brief look of terror on her face when it beeped
Great mechanic, great cook.....who needs more? Excellent work, guys.
So impressed with your mechanical skills. I really appreciated you showing us the process to identifying the problem, sourcing the parts, and doing the work. Was it as simple as consulting a car manual to know how to access the faulty parts?
I've dealt with this particular issue before so luckily it was pretty straightforward diagnosing it. I used a cheap fault code reader from Bunnings and then identified the problem by process of elimination.
Did you have to read up on the BMW mechanical manual?
@@OnePackWanderers were you able to grab yourself a sausage snag at Bunnings?
So last week Tia puts the camera in the fridge and this week she puts it in the washing machine. Just wondering where she's gonna put it next. 😂 I'm enjoying the expanded creativity with each video. Good to see the weather has improved. I hope it stays this way for the rest of the trip. South Island is amazing.
we watch these videos because of you wonderful people , the travel part is a bonus .
Wow if you had to take it to a mechanic it would be $1000s! Great job 😊
True that! Roughly a $3000 NZD job at a specialist.
Yes and some repairs you require special expensive equipment BMW uses to stop you doing it yourself so it was lucky this wasn’t one of those
You guys are going to love the south island. The mountains especially in the lower half are so amazing.
I think you’ll find that a bacon & egg pie in Australia is actually called a Quiche, totally different to your regular Aussie pie. 😊
There is the Ned Kelly pie, which has bacon and agg in it, some places also put tommato in them.
We've got quiche in the US, too! Agree it's way different from a pie though.
Naa, a Quiche is a bacon and egg pie without a lid. Both exist and are seperate. They were eating B&E pies in the video.
Quality of pies, pastry, meat, and variety is different from bakery to bakery in Australia - that’s why we have competitions judging the best meat pies/bakeries and do regional pie trails - not all meat pies are equal and a number of bakeries do offer bacon and egg varieties - the breakfast works with bacon, egg, tomato and cheese is my personal fave here in Aus!
@@TheSoulessdruid it’s Negg Kelly!
Total respect for the dynamic duo for turning a nightmare scenerio around , Ruby must be the best shape as she enters South Island which tends to be a little more remote and cold than the North
Ive now lived in NZ for 20 years (From UK), and i still feel like ive been on a non stop holiday, seeing you guys travel NZ has added to that feeling, Im planning on doing it all again with my young family soon and we've all been enjoying your vids.
Same here, from UK, been in NZ for 6 years vs 40 years in UK, i've probably seen more of NZ in 6 years than I did of UK in 40 years! And i'm still exploring more! I'll be in Wanaka for 5 weeks over Xmas!
Really enjoyed your video and NZ has the best pies and icecream. You have missed quite a lot of the North Island - the Bay of Plenty and Taranaki are both beautiful areas to explore.
That was pretty awesome, Cheveyo. Well done.
I'm going to jump on in here and just say there are definitely places that sell B&E Pies in Australia. You can get all sorts of different flavours. I'm not going to whip up any NZ/AU rivalry, but in Aus, the quality of the pie can definitely vary widely depending on where you buy it and how much you're willing to pay.
On another note, I voted for raspberry for the car, but Ruby seems like a good fit.
We need to come back to Oz and find a B&E pie then 😎
Most definitely! 👍
@@OnePackWanderers Tasmania ....
bummer about the beemer but kudos to you chev , great work
You mentioned the volcanoes but you may not be aware that lake Taupo is a lake formed in the caldera of a still active super volcano.
Impressed by Cheveyo’s mechanical skills and your resiliency with all the challenges you faced.
Your stop at the hot springs reminded me of Beppu, Japan. We did the same thing soaking our feet and it felt so refreshing.
So glad you’re out and about again. That was a cool McDonald’s!
Well we have bacon and egg pies in Adelaide (which are my favourite) and they are much the same as the NZ ones - and both go great with sweet chilli sauce. A quiche is a completely different dish and the only similarity are the usage of eggs in the filling and just whatever else you want to add
Love that you guys show the ups and the downs of travel. It's so refreshing. Great job getting Ruby in tip top shape again!!
Greatly done video guys! It’s so good to show the rainy days as well as the rainbows ❤
Great video! Even in troubled times you've pivoted it into a great video story!
Landscape in the second half of the video was stunning. The drone really helps to emphasise this. And the picnic backdrop was absolutely beautiful, the mountain did look similar to Fuji.
@mattr1563 @OnePackWanderers Mt Ngauruhoe is, of course, Mt Doom from Lord of the Rings. The day walk around the volcano to the fumarole field on the north side of the Tongariro Plateau (just south of Lake Taupo) is a task but worth the walk for the stunning views of NZ's most active volcanic area. Enjoy South Island, Cheveyo and Tia.
Thank you for showing the real side of traveling. Props to great skills in automotive and culinary mechanics.
That intro was hilarious!
We’ll done Cheveyo! Great that you have, both, the mechanical nous to do that work but also the courage to take on the job with limited tools and no workshop space 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Your skills and attitude will stand you in good stead when you eventually tackle the dirt roads of the Outback 👍🏽
So glad you could repair Ruby. Lovely video, I enjoyed the behind the scenes sort of vlog, looking forward to more of your adventures.
Oh no! Bet you are missing blueberry! Only just started watching so hope you are mobile again! Watched now and great job fixing the car!! The two of you always put a smile on my face.
Blueberry was invincible.
It's a shame that the Chateau Tongariro Hotel, seen near those volcanoes, is permanently closed now, due to the seismic instability of the building. It will cost a fortune to bring it back to useable standard, if they ever do.
Great name Ruby so glad you got the car fixed. Onto new adventures such great new for you 2
Another great video guys!
Tia…… we love you too!!❤
You guys are so much fun even just doing the mundane things that happen in travel. Keep it up & never change
You didn’t use the broccoli stems? 😮😮😮😮 it’s the best best part 😢😢
I agree!! 😂
It's interesting to see people from overseas driving down roads that are so familiar to me, like the highway from Taupo. It makes you see things in a different kind of perspective.
Thanks for the latest video 👍 We were fortunate to visit Huka Falls in 2013 when the dam was being opened. Pretty spectacular 😀
Another fun video showing "real life" when travelling. Things go wrong, but the upside is a rest while waiting. NZ is so awesome, but you are going to go bananas, while touring the south Isle. It is gobsmacking. You are a great team. Always fun to watch, thank you. Stay safe.
Nice work repairing your car yourself. Parts are so expensive over here. I hope you get great weather in Wellington. It’s a beautiful little city. I’ve been living there for the last couple of years. Some great little cafes & breweries in town as well as being very picturesque. Enjoy!
good work fixing it!
Well done guys, amazing mechanic
OMG don't throw the broccoli stalks away. 😀 They are actually the best part and have most of the nutrition. Great work on the car. Cheers.
Love you both you are relaxing to watch.
Can't wait to see where you go next! Might see you on the road
That incredibly picturesque mountain is Mount Ngauruhoe. Which is Mt Doom in Mordor.
It's a hard climb but incredibly satisfying. I sat for half an hour next to a live vent listening to the roaring sounds from inside the planet. Christopher Lee voice: ″From the foul pits of Mordor…″
You need gaiters when climbing to keep the incredibly sharp scoria out of your boots. And absolutely walking poles or sturdy sticks because volcano climbing is 50% sliding down and falling.
Mt Taranaki in North Island south west corner is also a brilliant climb.
I can say from personal experience that it's definitely possible without walking poles. Not necessarily wise, but absolutely doable. I came to visit a friend who gave me very little explanation of what we'd be doing other than "doing some walking". Cue me rocking up in denim shorts and a tshirt, carrying a plastic bag of snacks 😂 thank god it was summer. My legs spent half the time numb from the negative wind chill, but at least it was motivation to keep our speed up.
Impressive mechanical skills Cheveyo 👏👏👍and glad to hear Ruby is behaving 'her'self. Looking forward to your Southerly journey and the inspiring scenery we will see with you. I have a feeling the drone will get a good work out ! Again, great editing and shot taking..tnx ..Happy Trails and Blue Skies ..Noel
I would love to see more cooking with Tia
Glad the weather has improved! Wellington is lovely today, so glad you'll be getting to see it on a good day! The perfect volcano you saw was Mt. Ngauruhoe aka Mt Doom from LOTR.
Hey! Didn't recognize it as Mount Doom. Thanks for the info!
Power of CGI! @@OnePackWanderers
Rotorua isn’t just hot springs... you sadly missed most of the geothermal area. The entire area, Rotorua, Taupo, and the Tongariro volcanic area, are part of one super-volcano. Lake Taupo was created from a massive blast that affected the world’s climate several thousand years ago.
Another great video., life as it unfolds is not always roses, happy to watch the challenges as much as the wins, grateful you have the skills to overcome, wondering where the camera will pop up from next, fridges, washing machines, love the variety, safe travels with Ruby
The blue Mazda 3 in Oz series was a bomb proof really.
Yea it would be unrealistic to expect that from any other vehicle we'd buy (at our price point anyway)
My favourite RUclips Channel. Love following your adventures around the world. Enjoy NZ, the South Island is absolutely Spectacular 😀👍
Looks like the car has been regularly serviced ! Nice and clean in the top of the motor🤟
👍😊👍 Great fix, nicely done!
Huka Falls was one of my never forget experiences. We didn’t know about it, just came across the signs in the way past. It certainly is noisy and powerful.
That mountain was stunning!
It really did remind me of Fuji-san.
Haha…outtakes are the best 😂 …as always
Please don’t forget to go to New Plymouth! There’s an amazing volcano there too!
Great vid... NZ scenery is amazing...
Tia,Your description of the pie differences is bang on, the pies here in Australia do use a lot more pastry, most are modelled on the British pie that way, thick and nasty. But you can buy one that is so close.
Love Tia's sorting sklills with the washing, I get into trouble off the better half when she asks me to do the washing and I do this. Like the 3 musketeers, 1 in all in. Can't stop enjoying you guys.
Who on earth waves a bacon and egg pie Infront of a Kiwi on a Sunday morning😂 guess I'm going to have to get baking. $150per hour for a auto electrician up these ways so well done cheveyo .Now that she is named officially I'm sure Ruby will get you to the top of any mountain 🚗❤️❤️ have a fabulous spring Sunday guys . PS almost 71 K subs 👌
Thank you! Have a great day 😊
Hopefully Ruby will continue to be a gem with no more flaws.
A pity you weren't able to spend more time around Tongariro, it really is a beautiful place. I believe that particular waterfall was the one where Gollum has caught a fish and is singing his little song in the second movie.
The quality of pies varies widely in Oz, and I expect in NZ as well. The best ones come from country bakeries.
Cheveyo, I am really impressed with your skills in fixing the BMW, well done, I can change the oil and filter, but would not know were to start fixing a BMW. Hope the car goes well for the rest of the trip. Cheers john
Awesome video once again. Fixing Ruby the X1 was cool!
You do know that BMW stands for Bring My Wallet. Bad luck but good job on the repairs, hope Ruby behaves for the rest of the trip. Oh we do have egg and bacon pies in Oz we call them Quiche.
We have plenty of the same pies over here in AU too, you just didn't have many so you didnt experience the variety ;) Come back and go on a sausage roll/pie tour and you'll change your mind quickly haha
So glad you stopped at the falls at the base of the mountain it’s amazingly beautiful around there. Maccas spot haha just something tun and different for you guys to do I guess. Hope the drive to wellington went well. I hope seem you didn’t get to in Rotorua you can do the luge in Queenstown. Also you should check out the bungy even if you don’t do it they have a great spot to watch.
Alexandria is beautiful for some photos if you get a still day also with the reflections on the water and all the beautiful trees they have.
Oh Ruby... ok that's good. the paint dose a a bit of flake in it...
❤Another great video guys ...very informative and entertaining 😂
who woulda thought that blueberry would beat a BMW for reliability. Almost made it around the whole of Oz with no major repairs. Amazing!!
We had a road trip in NZ 2018. The rental "hippie wagon" had an issue with charging the car battery. The day we went to see Putangirua pinnacles (LOTR Paths of the Dead) the battery wasn't didn't charge at all. We were lucky to get to back to Martinborough. The car would not start. Had a good night's sleep in Brackenbridge Country Retreat and stayed late (at no extra cost Thank You!) waiting our replacement car to arrive.
I can really feel for you guys having car troubles. Have a safe journey and remember to visit Feilding the most beautiful town in New Zealand!
Stunning
Yay knew u would name her ruby its so perfect how could you not !!!
Drone footage “the best”
So lucky u know how to fix a car we’ve had the dreaded limp mode issue before ugh think it was the gearbox, nightmare
U did a great job and cheap option than a mechanic doing it that’s for sure
🤜🤛
there's 3 bakeries in my small town in aus all three make different crusts one is short crust top and bottom, one is short crust bottom puff pastry top and the third is a stretch puff pastry bottom and puff top. cheese and bacon pies are king
Super impressed you had the skills to repair your car. I could never. Wonderful video as always. Now I don’t have to bother visiting rotarua but I must find that place with the conical volcano. With snow 😳on it. Oh, and don’t worry about the pie thing, no offence taken. 😂😂😂
Mt Tarankai (used to be called Mt Egmont) is much larger "Fuji" style conical volcano. It's near New Plymouth if you get the chance to go that way.
Lake Taupo is not just an average lake, it is actually a volcanic crater
I visited many truck stops in Australia in the 80s. None had quiches on the menu, but they all had had egg and bacon pies on the menu.
(There was a book in the 80s called 'real men don't eat quiche').
Well done on the car fix very handy skill. I have one question though, how do wash a egg? 😂 take it you were talking about the outside of the egg lol. Thanks for the content, nothing like seeing people travel the country you live in. Safe travels
In trouble but you guy did get out, special Cheveyo handyman know how to fix BMW. Thanks for video.
New Zealand's south island definitely leaves a big impression on you, I think you captured it perfectly!
Can't beat the Blueberry Machine that you had in Oz 😊
Mechanical breakdowns can be so frustrating but on the upsid, whilst the parts are expensive at least you have the skills and abilities to do the work yourself saving you the labour cost.
The snow capped mountains were certainly impressive and majestic. You are a lovely couple and following you here whether traveling or being forced to stay put like you were, is always a pleasure and most entertaining. Ruby is a good choice of name. As always, travel safe.
Peoples get sick, cars get sick. All we need is some tlc to get better 😊. Rough Ruby for the win!
Well done, Cheveyo! 🙂
There's an old wisdom that goes like this: the most expensive car you can buy is a cheap BMW.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us guys! ….I’m so glad your finally driving south!! …Trust me it gets more and more jaw dropping stunning as you drive south and the food gets incredibly better as well!! ….Absolutely no offence to the north island but most Aussies just visit the South Island. I highly recommend visiting Lake Tekapo for one night (its absolutely stunning!) …and when you get to Queenstown give yourself at least 3 days to explore (The shot over jet is a MUST! trust me, you won’t regret it!). ….Safe travels. ☺️
I agre that i like New Zealand pies more than Aussie one and I’m an Aussie .. best pie so far was a lamb pie in Queenstown,, id go back just for that lol 😘😘
Fixing a German car AND carrying a original German shopping bag from Aldi, we’re proud of you guys! 😂🇩🇪
Im impressed that he could fix it. That alone says a lot about his skills. BMW have so many issues. Lots of plastic under the hood.
You don't have to wash the eggs unless you want to put the shell in.
I think you might be confusing the Aratiatia rapids with Huka falls. Huka falls is on the Waikato river and runs continuously, Aratiatia Rapids has controlled release times which is fun to watch so a shame you missed that on the way through. Both are pretty awesome.
Looks like you didn’t make it to the Rotarua Mud Pools, if not you missed out on one the most iconic destinations in NZ!
That pie looked like it was a kind of short crust pastry rather than puff pastry (I prefer puff). Australia also commonly has egg based pies/mini quiches. Definitely in Tasmania anyway, especially in bakeries.
But we also have bacon and egg pies, very different to a quiche.
Just got to the bit regarding Aus vs NZ pies, cheese and bacon pies have always been my go to here in Aus as an Aussie.
I use get Bacon and eggs pies in Adelaide when I lived there. You can also get Ned Kelly Pies which are similar
so raspberry is holding up well done
As a Kiwi living in Brizzy for over 13 years, I've nere come across a seafood pie.
Went a a holiday back home last Christmas, and a boutique pie shop in a suburb in Auckland was selling boil up pies, Pulusami and corned beef, smoke fish, pies....Our fellow bros here in Oz are well behind us Kiwis......nex minute.....they'll be claiming it as there own like, like everything else. Gotta our Aussie bros.....🤣🤣❤
I would have called the car Brunhilda just for the hell of it. Nice repair work too.
Hi Tia and Cheveyo, glad to see you back down under. Love Ruby as a name for your car 🚘 enjoy your adventures ❤️🇦🇺🐨🐨🇦🇺
