  • From the 26th of August 2024 to January 2025, Ghana government has ban the exportation of grains
The government however, intends to import 300,000MT of maize and 150,000MT of rice to support local consumption.
This is due to changes in rainfall pattern as expected by farmers in the northern part of Ghana.

I don't know if u are familiar with this story; many years back, Haiti tried to make their country food secure. they stopped businesses from importing rice, and also stopped accepting same in food aid. Long story short, under former US prez Cli-ton, his home state (where he used to be the governor), had surplus rice productn (their farmers usually get subsidies). They literally 'forced' the surplus rice on Haiti, and the Haiti rice farmers never recovered from that. Personally, I saw with my own eyes, bags of rice marked "Donated by USAID_NOT FOR SALE" in the Madina market. Our politicians are just interested in procurement opportunities so they can get their cut. Our politicians don't do supervision, monitoring, "ears and eyes" on the ground, etc. They only appear interested in addressing issues when asking for votes. It's not just NPP o! We need some values and discipline instilled in us, hmmm

@@gh_blaqsoap2846 wow that's no interesting insight and I don't doubt it because it's sounds similar to what the West has done in different parts of the world. That's an imperialist move to the core and will eventually destroy every local content. Thanks

@@toontumnetwork Definitely! As a country, we can't talk about 'development' without first being food secure. Ghana is over 60 years old, and we are still depending on the rain for our farms. Ridiculous!

@@gh_blaqsoap2846 we depend on rains and from our peasant farmers...in that order

Correction: Ghana exports Gold for paper money.
Why is it taking so long to invest in irrigation?
