Kansas is an American Treasure. Prog, symphonic, and totally rocks. Anything from the 70s is going to deliver. You wont be disappointed.

You are absolutely correct. There is something after this. The writer of this song ,Kerry Livgren, is the principal composer of most of Kansas’s music and he actually wrote a book about his spiritual journey. In fact 90% of their music has a spiritual influence. I actually met Kerry and spent a couple of days with him, many years ago. An amazing artist, a real gentleman and a wonderful human being. 😎🎶🎸🇨🇦

My father told me years ago that time seems to go by faster the older you get. I am now approaching the winter of my life, and days, weeks, months, and years are speeding away. I am a follower of Christ and have been for more than 58 years. I strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, which I believe the entire world would be a better place if everyone followed the teachings to love others more than yourself, serve others, and feed, clothe, shelter, and give medical aid to strangers (including immigrants). I do not believe in forcing my beliefs on others, and I know our founding fathers separated church and state for a good reason, and government and religion must never be mixed. Every single American has the right to worship how they choose. That is part of our democracy and individual freedoms that make this country so wonderful, and our Constitution must be guarded from changes or from those who wish to get rid of it altogether. We come from dust, and to dust, we will return. Focus on your family and friends and things that are truly important. Don't spend your time chasing things that will perish and take up all of your time because life is short at best. Tomorrow is promised to no one.

James, I’m 56 …couldn’t have stated that any better. It’s a good thing we’re only here for a short time, not sure we could deal with the world if we were here much longer. Looking forward to eternity…see you there brother.

I can relate to your comments, but one thing I would add is that as I grow older I realize how many chances I had to share the good news of the gospel and the love that God has for all people but I was often afraid to be "controversial" or was afraid to trigger someone or maybe insult them in some way. As Christians we can't be afraid to share the good news. As a matter of fact we were directed to do so by Christ himself. I am not talking about attacking others beliefs, or judging others, or being aggressive in any way. That is not what we were instructed to do. We were instructed to share the good news and treat everyone with love. Once we have introduced someone to the truth about Christ, he will take care of the rest. We just need to love. God bless you!

Regarding timeless rock ballads, few songs have achieved the lasting impact and emotional resonance as “Dust In The Wind.” Released in 1977 as part of their album “Point of Know Return,” the mesmerizing melody and poignant lyrics., takes you into the meaning of the song Great tune, excellent commentary.

Our own mortality is what makes life, including music, so beautiful. Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't say, I hope that one day soon, you'll find your own path to Jesus, so you can stop hoping there is something else, and start knowing there is.

Thanks Shawn for your thoughtful reaction to this great tune. _Kansas_ has an entire Universe of great songs that no one (besides true fans) has heard before. Sure everyone knows the 2 great tunes they released on singles --- *_Carry on Wayward Son_* and *_Dust in the Wind_* but there are many other tremendously inventive and progressive songs. Try any of the following 11 on for size when you get a chance (listed in order of release) --- and there are many other's --- most of their great material appeared on their first 5 albums released between 1974 and 1977:
    01. Belexes
    02. Child of Innocence
    03. Icarus: Borne on Wings of Steel
    04. The Wall
    05. What's on my Mind
    06. Miracles out of Nowhere
    07. The Spider / Portrait (He Knew) --- _listen to these consecutively as one song._
    08. Closet Chronicles
    09. Sparks of the Tempest
    10. Nobody's Home
    11. Hopelessly Human

Man, I’m 63 now, and weeks, months, years just seem to be flying past.
We had a big family party today, to celebrate my dad’s 90th birthday. Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, there was about 40 of us there. He and mom are still chugging along pretty well, but sadly dad has started displaying early symptoms of dementia and Parkinson’s. But he’s made it this far without too many health issues, so we aren’t complaining. I can only hope to make it that far.

One of my favorite tunes and lyrics. Period. A great choice for Kansas. If we are all dust, we are all equal. And so if all you do does not another minute buy, relax; be content. Be kind. There is nothing gained by being cruel. You are right about the song's simplicity is its power. For this song, less is more.

Kansas is a great band from the 70's. Their musical style is a fusion of hard rock, southern rock & progressive rock. "Carry On Wayward Son" & "Dust In The Wind" are their 2 biggest hits. But they had other good songs such as "Point Of Know Return", "Hold On", "People Of The South Wind", "Play The Game Tonight", "Fight Fire With Fire", "All I Wanted" etc.

I'm 75 years old. I constantly think about my mortality. I've lived most of my life. Btw growing old sucks. Everything you could effortlessly do when you you were younger is taken away from you. Definitely not "Golden Years." I could have 10 years left or 10 months or less. No one escapes death.

Your reaction is so cool, so real. When this song came out, I fell in love with it. It is a beautiful and meaningful song. They say we come from dust and to dust we will return. It is how it is. I believe there's an afterlife, but when we die, we are returning to dust. Life is too short, and I embrace every day I wake up.
