If it's not showing Octane in Menu > Open the Preferences (CTRL E) and click Open Preferences Folder below > then find Plugins folder and paste there. Not where the video shows you to. For me it worked.
For those using R17, for some reason "c4dOctane-R16-demo" is the file you should keep not "c4dOctane-R17-demo". The one labelled r17 doesnt show up in the menu.
+Mark Rowell interesting. Thank you very much for making me aware of this. I will look into it, and make changes to the video with an overlay message. Thank you again very much :D.
My Octane tab shows up but when I click it, nothing happens. What do I do? It also doesn't show up in my render settings. I have r18 and kept the c4dOctane-R17
Hmmm, interesting. you might have already tried this, but have you tried keeping the c4dOctane-R18 file? Also, have you made sure that your GPU drivers are updated, as well as C4D?
i did everything you said and it still doesnt show up on my C4D... i even tried keeping all the versions and didnt even get an error message... I have C4D R19.068 Student Version, and I downloaded the Octane Demo plugin from the Otoy website :(
Hmmm, I would recommend trying to update your Copy of C4D and make sure it's at the latest version. If there is an update for it, make sure to redownload and install Octane Demo. If this still doesn't fix it, it may be that the C4D student version does not work with the Octane Demo. I would contact Maxon support to confirm this though :).
Thank you for the video :) I had to try out with the versions... i have r16 and the r16.cdl64 file didnt work alone, so i leave also the r15 file in the folder. Now it works!
I'm afraied that C4D R20 removed the Plugins folder. Not to worry though, simply just create a new one, and add octane to that folder. Make usre to name the Plugins folder exactly as its named in the video. Hope this helps :)!
@@EpicJCreations Thank you for your reply! I had put Octane in the folder that is available through the preferences (not in the Program Files folder). There was a pre-existing plugins folder there already so I assumed this was the new way to go. It seems to work. Is this not a good way to do it?
@@Joeherman No problem :)! If its working, I guess it would be ok to keep it there, it may be the new location where C4D R20 exclusively keeps its plugins.
Hey!! I have a problem with octane. I deleted all .cdl64 file except for R19 (i have Cinema 4D R19) and it didnt work. Can you help me?? Thanks for your time!!
Hmm, interesting. Try keeping all the files instead of deleting them, see if it works them. You will have to reinstall octane for that to work though. To remove the whole octane folder that you added, and read it again fresh, this time without removing the R13-R19 files
Hey, Thanks for the video! :) Im not sure whether or not you are able to help me, but worth a try: I've been trying to get octane demo plugin to work in my cinema 4d, but its not showing up after install. I have c4d R13.061, nvidia 1060, and i have the standalone version of octane, which works fine. I've tried to copy the 'c4doctane_demo' into my 'MAXON/CINEMA 4D R13/plugins'-folder as it says in the guide, but nothing shows when i open c4d. I tried deleting the cdl64-files not matching my version and only leaving the R13, and also tried just leaving them all. I've also tried to open c4d, locate the preferences folder, and put it in 'plugins' there, but still nothing. Do you have any clue what im doing wrong?
Hello Morten, thank you for the comment :). I'm very sorry, but i'm afraied that Octane is not Compatible with Cinema 4D R13. You need to have at least Cinema 4D R16 or higher for it to work. This said, there may be older version of octane that does ssupport it. I'm afraied that i'm not sure where to get them though, I would contact Octane Support and see if they can get you the right version :).
Hey Epic, thanks for replying :) That's wierd -Otoy list the following on their site: OctaneRender™ for CINEMA 4D® is available for the following: Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 - (R13 - R19) I will try contacting Otoy and hear them out. Thanks again! :) /Morten
Hmm, interesting. The info may be out of date, the latest Octane Launch says it only works on R15 and up for octane 3.07. I definitely would be interested in knowing what support says :).
Hello :). To check for updates on Cinema 4D, go and click on "Help in the top right corner. then click on "Check For Updates". If you are already updated to the latest version. I think it might be an issue with one of the R13-R19 files that I told you to delete in the video. I would recommend reinstalling octane again, and this time keeping all the files and see if it starts this time. Let me know how it goes :).
to be honest, i am new to this program. i have interest on animation since i saw it on youtube recommendation. i apply cinema 4d r20 but when i installed octane on my laptop it say nvicuda.dll is missing try reinstalling again..it says on some of the comment that you need gpu.. is it possible to work when you switch drivers into nvidia gpu without graphics card?.. i know its a silly question but i don't have knowledge on computer either in fact i'm gaining knowledge on it by now.. hope you appreciated. thanks.
Hello, Graham :)! THank you for your comment! I'm sorry to hear that octane is giving you trouble, don't worry though, we will figure this out :). First off, no matter whether your GPU would work with octane or not, it still should show up in Cinema 4D. What I would first recommend is at this spot in the video, ruclips.net/video/hNnulxC92bI/видео.htmlm52s where I show to delete the .cdl64 files, and only leave the version of C4D that you have. Instead, leave all the files and launch C4D, this way, you will get errors but just click through them, till C4D boots up, this will cycle through each file, till the right one works. Now, to do this, you will need to delete the folder that you placed in the plugins section in the Maxon folder. Let me know if this helps :).
Hey John, Octance is showing up once I installed cuda. But get error in live window.."There is no cuda drive which is supported by Ocatne render". Im guessing my computer is too old. Macbook Pro 2011
Hmmm, interesting. Is your GPU an integrated GPU with your CPU? Because an integrated GPU is not really a cuda capable GPU from what I understand. This said, if it's not an integrated GPU, it should work. This is interesting as well, I never knew that you could download a Cuda driver, where did you get this file?
Hello! I am having the same issue as the person above where the Octane dropdown menu shows up but I get a message that says "There is no cuda drive which is supported by Octane render." The octane website says you can download a cuda driver from here: www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html Do you know if Octane can work with Intel Iris GPU? I am using a mac mini 2014. Thank you!
Hello, Nicolas! Thank you for your comment! I'm sorry to hear the octane installation is giving you trouble. Do you have your copy of Cinema 4D R14 updated to the latest version? Also, I would recommend leaving all the .cdl64 files in the folder. That means all of the R13-R18 files will be kept there and not deleted. Then start up Cinema 4D. You will get a series of error messages that will pop up. This is ok, just click through them and they will go away. Once you have loaded into Cinema 4D, let me know if Octane loads up now. Hope this helps :). PS. Sorry that I talked so quickly though part of it. I need to slow my pace down at spots :).
*John Burdock* in Octane's FAQ it says,i can't buy plugin only, the standalone is unnecessary. If it's unnecessary why than demo plugin works fine without standalone.Do you know about it? is the standalone version really important for plugin?(for purchase)
That's a very good question @MES :D! You can't really buy the plugin version of octane for Cinema 4D all by its self, because it takes the Octane renderer to run it. You simply are piping out the data from Cinema 4D, using the Plugin, to the actual Octane renderer, where it then renders out the data, and sends it back to C4D. The reason that the demo works, is because is because it's piping out the data, just the same as the full version, except it has it hidden. so you can really launch the actual octane program. Let me make this clear though, you do not need to run the solo version of octane to use the octane plugin inside of Cinema 4D. SO you would just launch Cinema 4D, and when you launch the Octane plugin inside of it, it would launch the same render engine that Octane uses in the standalone copy. It would just not show it as a running application, unless you really dug for it in the task manager. The reason they want you to buy a Copy of the octane standalone and the C4D plugin is basically restrictions and royalties. You are first buying the right to use there render engine, then buying the right to use it inside of Cinema 4D. It's a little bit misleading. Quite honestly, I think there plugin should be free, and you just pay for the engine. This is what I have gathered so far, so I could be off a little. If you do decide to buy a copy, let me know how it turns out :). Also, just as an option, look into this render engine for C4D. insydium.uk/cycles4d/
Hello. My name is Tyrone Harge and I am a 3d Production Artist for Tsunami Vapor & Glass and we have just purchased a license for both Octane Standalone and the plugin for Cinema 4d R17. I have followed the instructions on both the Support on the website and the Read Me file in the "c4doctane" download. I have put my creditials in the standalone and launched it. I, then launched Cinema 4D R17 and saw the "Octane" tab on my hotbar. Upon clicking it however, nothing drops down. Is there a process or a step i missed when installing? If you could get back to me as soon as possible, that would be excellent. Thank you and have a great day. ( Note: Both the standalone and the plugin are version 3.06.2)
Hello Tyrone :)! Thank you for your comment, I'm very sorry to hear that octane is giving you trouble, but don't worry, we will figure this out. First off, I would recommend taking the octane C4D plugin and delete the entire Octane folder in the C4D plugins location. Once done, redownload the octane C4D plugin, but this time, keep all the R13-R18 files. Launch C4D, and it should give you a bunch of errors, this is ok, just click ok on all of them. After you have clicked through all of them, it should launch C4D, and it should run octane correctly. If this does work, that means you need to figure out which file of the R13-R18 is actually working. Also, make sure your copy of C4D is updated to the latest version. Let me know if any of this helps :).
No problem :D! So happy octane is working for you now :D! Thank you for the comment, and thank you for the info. If any of my youtube users have issues with octane, I'll make sure to ask them to check there GPU drivers first :D!
hey i just bought the licensed version and did the same exact thing. it lookes exactly the same as what you got except the viewer docent have the lines and octane symbol. the only thing thats missing is the octane exporter. do you have any idea how i can download that?
Hello @Dave Rickards :D! Thank you for the question :)! I'm afraid then i've never tried to export with octane that way. I've always just gone into render settings and set my renderer as Octane, then just exported like I normally do, by clicking the "Render to picture viewer button. :). I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Let me know how it goes though, and when you find the answer, what it was :).
No problem :D! Glad you found this tutorial helpful :)! I'm afraid that the only way I know how to activate Octane render, is by purchasing a license. I don't know of any free way of doing this. :)
Hi ''J'' I am Atik. When I install octane It works fine but for a minute after that it freeze and close c4d and it send me a notification, (Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware). some time it shows blue screen with a massage (Video TDR Failure) and whole system restart. Please help me if Possible
Hmmm this seems like it could be an issue with the wrong octane file running. Try reinstalling Octane render and this time leave all the files and dont deleat any of them, after you launch octane, you will get alot of errors, just click through them and see it it crashes after that. it it does, you can try following this video I have that show how to keep Substance Painter from crashing, this same procces should ehlpe Octane render as well. ruclips.net/video/SIetNZWQ7RM/видео.html
hey, there should be an ZIP file in ur Cinema4D folder which you have from the download. It includes the folders "frameworks" and "plugins". Just Extract the zip file and insert the following Plugins u installed from this video into the plugin folder.
Hello Aleeh :D! Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear that octane is giving you trouble, but don't worry, we will get this fixed for you :). First off, what version of C4D do you currently have? Also, did you make sure to delete all the .cdl64 files in your plugins folder under program files? Hope this helps :).
Thanks for answering, dude! My c4d is R16, but i figured out that my version of c4d (16.011) didn't support the R16 cdl64 file, then i just left the R15 file instead of R16 and it worked :)
John, I'm having the same problem that Aleeh had. I found out that I only have R16 (16.011) so I tried opting for the r15 version (I deleted all .dylib files except for the 15 one) but the Octane tab still isn't showing up for me. Any Idea how I can fix this?
having such a massive problem with this! I can open the external renderer, but when opening in c4d it show's up an Octane tab but I cannot click on it. I did the same thing by trying the R15 for C4d R16..
Hello :)! Thank you for the comment! Very sorry to hear that Octane is giving you trouble, dont worry though, we will figure this out. First off, what type of GPU do you have? Second, try keeping all the C4D R13-R19 files. You will get alot of errors when you open C4D, but after you click on them, it should work. Let me know if this helps.
Thanks John, I've tried keeping all the R16 - R19 files, but still the same problem. I wonder could it be because my C4d is R16.011 and not 050? I also tried using the standalone version but when opening up a project the viewport stays grey. I'm using an MSI GT70 with Nvidia GTX970M :)
Hmm, interesting. I do know that using a verson of C4D that's not fully updated can cause issues. I would definitly recomdend updateing your Version of C4D to the lastest update. I would also recomend updating your Nvidia GPU drivers to the latest as well :). Let me know if this helps :).
Hmmm. At the spot in the video, where I show to delet the files except for one, try doing it again, but this time dont delete any of the files. Let me know if it works after you reinstall it this way :).
Same problem with R19, I had to keep the R18 file to have the Octane tab but when I click it doesn't show up. I tried to keep all the files in the plugin folder but it's not working. I tried to check if the path was correct and it is. So I don't really know how to fix it.
Hmmm, this is an interesting issue. First off, what type of GPU do you have? Also, on the part of the video where I talk about deleting those files, which ones did you delete? also, what version of C4D do you have?
Hi, I'm having this same issue. If you wouldn't mind helping me as well, I'm using a GTX 1070 TI and my Cinema 4D version is R17.032. I deleted all of the files aside from the R17 one as you said in the video but the Octane tab didn't show up, several minutes later I come to find out that the R16 version of the file works but not the R17. Now the only problem, as Marin said, is that when I click the Octane tab in Cinema 4D nothing shows up.
Hmmm, interesting. I would recommend keeping all the files, and see if it works then. it will pop up a few errors when you start C4D, but, in the end, it should work. Let me know if this helps :).
Hey thanks for the response, I went through and updated all of the drivers for my graphics card as well as everything I could for CInema 4D and that fixed the problem.
The only limitation is water mark and resolution :). You can keep it for as long as you want :D! I hate time limits on demos xD! Such pressure to learn it fast xD!
Hey man! I downloaded Octane and it showed up in c4d but didnt work cuz i need cuda. Downloaded Cuda and now octane no longer shows in c4d can you help?!
Hello, Dan :)! Thank you for your comment :)! I'm sorry to hear that octane is giving you trouble, don't worry though, we will figure out whats going on :). First off, what type of GPU do you have? Is it an AMD or a Nvidia, and what version is it. For example, is it a 970 or a 980?
The thing is I had octane shown at the top but i must of hit something cause now it no longer shows up when i open C4D. But the files are still in maxon folder
I'm very sorry, but I'm afraid that none of the Integrated graphics are supported with Octane render. You can only use Octane if you have a Nvidia GPU. Octane still should show up in C4D, but it won't be able to actually run sadly. I'm sorry that I couldn't have been of more help :(.
When I download OctaneRender for CINEMA 4D® demo, my laptop saves it as an illustator file, I think it doesn't recognise the file well, does anyone have tips?
is this render increase my render speed ? normally my c4d take 2 min per frame i am very frustrated is this render increase its speed or not please reply :/
Yep it's what @tyrunz said :). Octane typically is much faster than the Physical renderer inside of Cinema 4D. That said, octane is very realistic. So it's rendering a lot of things all at once, such a global illumination. So if you render a scene in Physical without Global illumination, you may be faster than octane. But is very safe to say, if you want to render something that looks as good as octane, then octane will be faster if you have a good enough GPU :).
I'm afraid that Niel is right, Octane only runs on Nvidia GPU's at the moment. If you would like to use your AMD GPU to render though, you could try out the Cycles renderer. It does support AMD GPU's :D!
Hello :)! Thank you for your comment! I have used Octane on windows 10 with C4D R18, but its a licenced version. So I don't have any experience using it with a cracked copy :). This said I think it should still work. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help :).
From what I heard from other users, it should work, this said, I would still recommend downloading the demo first, to see if it works with your copy of C4D. :).
Yep, this is a tutorial on showing you how to download and install the demo of octane. So it will have watermarks on it when you render. This said the process of installing the Demo is exactly the same as installing the paid version of Octane C4D. Let me know if you need any more info :)!
Thnaks....Is buying it necessary... Does it change the quality of your work compered to Physical render? Does it make work more realistic or something.... I tried researching but I can't find answers
Octane is a very good render engine for both stills and animations. What makes octane particularly special, is that it run on your GPU, not your CPU like Physical render does. This means that octane won't work unless you have a Nvidia GPU. This said Octane render much much faster on GPU then physical render does on an equally priced CPU. Octane is also more realistic then C4D, as it does support better effects that physical render does not, such as dispersion in transparent objects. Hope this info helps :)! Let me know if you need any more info :D!
Hello, thank you for your comment :). To get the manual for Octane render, you need to download it separately from this link. render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=60816 After you have downloaded the Octane Manual file, you will need to right click it and extract it to the Octane render folder that you placed in the Maxon plugins folder. let me know if you need any more information :).
Hallo :).
I have cinema 4d r18, and when I deleted all the other files octane didn't come up, but it comes up whenever I have any of the other version files installed, but even though octane comes up, when i click on it it doesn't show anything, it just highlights itself and if I click again it unhighlights....
hmmm, interesting. I first recommend making sure you are using the latest version of Cinema 4D R18, and make sure you have your GPU drivers updated to the latest version as well. Also, what type of GPU do you have?
+Fluffy Cloud Media Hello Cloud Media :D! I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with installing octane in Cinema 4D. Did you make sure to delete all of the R13-R17 files except the one you need? Also, do you have a Radeon GPU or a Nvidia? Also, what version of Cinema 4D are you using? :)
+Fluffy Cloud Media Very sorry for the long response, I've been busier than I normally am. I tryed redownloading octane, and it seems to work for me. Did you make sure to uninstall all other versions of octane from your computer before downloading the new demo? If so, and your still having this problem, I would recommend contacting the Octane support. Sorry I can't be of more help, I was unable to replicate the problem, so i'm not sure how to fix it. :)
thx, I 'll give it a shot and let you know. I can barely pay electric bills here. But I am fair user, meaning I'll buy the day I can make money with it!
Hello Nick :D. Thank you for the comment. I'm sorry to hear that Octane Demo is giving you trouble. Do you use a PC or Mac that has a Radeon GPU insted of Nvidia?
in the video I show how to get to the Maxon folder, if you tryed using drive C: and could not find the folder, trying looking and checking if you have other drives on your computer, such as drive E:. If you do have a second drive, try looking for the Maxon folder in that one, following the same steps I show in the video. Hope this helps :).
Updated from 3.06 to 3.06.02 and can no longer open Stand alone while C4d plugin works fine.C4d addresses in octane settings are'C:\Users\mike\Downloads\Octane-for-C4D-V3.06.2-win\c4doctane\c4dOctane-R18.cdl64C:\Users\mike\AppData\Roaming\OctaneRender\localDbEverything worked in 3.06 original install..Win 10, cuda updated, C4d version R18.057, tried signing in and out..C4d plug still works fine.. 'Edit in Standalone' not..just a word to the wise, don't upgrade, lolol!
Hello Mike :). I'm sorry to hear that octane is giving you trouble. Don't worry though we will get this figured out. First off, I would recommend, completely uninstalling octane standalone and octane C4D. After you have done this, try reinstalling octane Standalone and then the Octane C4D plugin. Let me know if this helps, and sorry if this is something that you already tried :).
Where are- resides- all Octane 'standalone' folders... is there an 'uninstall.exe' to get started removing the bulk of 'standalone?? I guess the only way forward is to remove any what so ever 'Octane' on my computer, start from scratch after eliminating anything all the way down to system32... appdata except for .Libs/mats and 'Biograph light plugs. In C4d the 'Octane folder simply resides in the C4d 'Plugin' directory, so removal is simple.
Oh no, the best way to remove octane is to go to the control panel, and then go to "Uninstall a program" after you click that, find octane, and then right click it, and then click uninstall. This will remove octane standalone. After you have done this, then go to this directory. C:\Program Files\MAXON\CINEMA 4D R18\plugins. Once you're in here, delete the "c4doctane" File. THen octane C4D and standalone will be fully removed from your PC :). Let me know if this helps :)
In Win 10, under 'Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features- there is not a listed Octane on my P.C.,, while I understood the 'Standalone' had to exist, for the C4d plug to operate---- leading me to believe the 'Standalone installed somehow, somewhere on this P.C. with multiple hard drives with auto backup features in place.I use "Everything" as a platform search program/engine and have files going back to original Demo I installed 3.04.. thus the reason I inquired about a .Exe. or even an executable file name to find where 'Standalone actually exists after the install of 3.06.02 over/first remove previous( ?.. don't remember what the process I followed was as promoted on the OTOY website) the previous 3.06.Maybe in 'upgrading from 3.06 to 3.06.02 I eliminated the 'Standalone entirely? Is there an 'unlock' feature for the OTOY just for the 'Stand alone'.. I presumed if the plug worked the OTOY 'end' was okay.
Hmmm, interesting. There is good news, yes there is an Unlock feature for Octane. The best way to do this is Contact Octane support. They will help you Unlock your Old Octane license. This said, Did you make sure to download the Octane standalone version at the latest level as your Octane C4D plugin. Also, I looked up the name of the Manual uninstall for octane standalone, and the name of the file is "Uninstall" and it's a .exe file. It's strange that it doesn't have a more defined name. Let me know what happens when you download the latest version of octane, the one that matches your Current C4D Plugin version.
Yep you can keep all the R13-R18 files and it will still work, it just will give you errors when you launch C4D, but after you click though them it will work :).
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful :)! My first hard drive is my SSD, this is for speed, the second is my media drive, to hold all my big files, the 3rd is a backup of the media drive, to keep everything safe, and the 4th is an SD card I had plugged into my PC :).
Man, that is really strange. So far Octane has worked well with R20 for me. I would recommend contacting Octane support and see what they say. This is a very strange issue. It most certainly should work.
If it's not showing Octane in Menu > Open the Preferences (CTRL E) and click Open Preferences Folder below > then find Plugins folder and paste there. Not where the video shows you to. For me it worked.
si for me too
hi there i have the tab on my r19 but the tab its empty
Thank you so much, got it to work with Cinema 4D 2023
can you help me bro
Bro can you tell how you got it work fine??
For those using R17, for some reason "c4dOctane-R16-demo" is the file you should keep not "c4dOctane-R17-demo". The one labelled r17 doesnt show up in the menu.
+Mark Rowell interesting. Thank you very much for making me aware of this. I will look into it, and make changes to the video with an overlay message. Thank you again very much :D.
+Mark Rowell This comment should be on the top :) Thank you for your help !
+Le Roi Papayou - Very true! It definitely should be. Do you know how I could do that?
John Burdock I guess you can't.. Just like his comment it should be the top rated, I don't know :/
And thank you for being active, that's rare !
+Le Roi Papayou - Ah dang to bad. And no problem :D! I'm always checking my email making sure I stay uptodate on comments :).
Thankyou So much Dude
Nice explanation thank you very much! It works!
No problem! So glad you found this video helpful! Thank you for the comment :D!
im running studio R17 and now it keeps crashing after I used the r16 plugin instead of the R17 like you said what should I do?
thank you it's still working in 2024.
Installed the octane Demo , u were ryt bout updating the video card , thanx . cheers.
+Ahmed shakib Awesome! Glad it worked out :D. Thank for the comment :).
Haha Fixed it! My C4D had an update. thanks!
Nice! Glad you were able to fix the issue :D! No problem! Happy to try and help :).
@@ninaelric4628 How did you fix it? I have the same problem :(
@@myrnadiaz17 i'm update r19 to r19.068 can work ,you should update your version
I LOVE U, THANKS!!!!!! U ARE BEST
I did the exact same thing (but with r20) and it didnt work
try to update version it will work
for me it worked with r20
Thank you!
i did everything you said and it still doesnt show up on my C4D... i even tried keeping all the versions and didnt even get an error message...
I would contact Maxon support to confirm this though :).
for those using c4d r20, the r19 file is the working one, with the r20 it doesn't work
even r19 not working for me
Since the last update it also runs OpenCL so it supports AMD graphic cards as well :)
Hello Denisav :D! Thank you for the comment! Thats awesome! Thank you for that information, I didn't know Octane supported AMD yet :D!

I had to try out with the versions... i have r16 and the r16.cdl64 file didnt work alone, so i leave also the r15 file in the folder.
Now it works!
Hello Adno! Thank you for the comment :D! Wow that's strange. Thank you very much for this info :D! I'll make sure to pass it along :D!
Thanks adno I had to do the same , so weird :) but would never go that way
Yeeees. thanks alot
No problem! Happy to help :D!
Woops! or where you talking to Adno, either way glad you were able to have the issue resolved :D!
i do all the steps provided but once im ready to open C4D the plugin isn't there??
This seems not to be the same for R20. There is no plugins folder in the C4D folder in the Program Files folder. Did something change?
I'm afraied that C4D R20 removed the Plugins folder. Not to worry though, simply just create a new one, and add octane to that folder. Make usre to name the Plugins folder exactly as its named in the video. Hope this helps :)!
@@EpicJCreations Thank you for your reply! I had put Octane in the folder that is available through the preferences (not in the Program Files folder). There was a pre-existing plugins folder there already so I assumed this was the new way to go. It seems to work. Is this not a good way to do it?
@@Joeherman No problem :)! If its working, I guess it would be ok to keep it there, it may be the new location where C4D R20 exclusively keeps its plugins.
i have try it but it doesn't work at all.
thank you.
Thanks!
Thanks man
No problem! So glad you found my tutorial helpful :)! Thank you for the comment :D!

@@EpicJCreations doesnt work, dealing with same problem with r20 version, redownloaded r17 and same thing.
Hey, Thanks for the video! :) Im not sure whether or not you are able to help me, but worth a try:
I've been trying to get octane demo plugin to work in my cinema 4d, but its not showing up after install.
Hey Epic, thanks for replying :)
That's wierd -Otoy list the following on their site:
OctaneRender™ for CINEMA 4D® is available for the following:
Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 - (R13 - R19)
I will try contacting Otoy and hear them out.
Thanks again! :)
/Morten
Hmm, interesting. The info may be out of date, the latest Octane Launch says it only works on R15 and up for octane 3.07. I definitely would be interested in knowing what support says :).
Worked fine on R18,now they have r18 file already
Awesome! Thank you! That's very good to know :D! I'll make changes to the video to reflect that :).
when i click on the octane tab, nothing happens (no window opens or something)
ive c4d r17 & a 1080ti
how do i check if my c4d has an update?
Let me know how it goes :).
thx
Awesome glad you got it working :)!
to be honest, i am new to this program. i have interest on animation since i saw it on youtube recommendation. i apply cinema 4d r20 but when i installed octane on my laptop it say nvicuda.dll is missing try reinstalling again..it says on some of the comment that you need gpu.. is it possible to work when you switch drivers into nvidia gpu without graphics card?.. i know its a silly question but i don't have knowledge on computer either in fact i'm gaining knowledge on it by now.. hope you appreciated. thanks.
my c4d does not launch after installing wtf help
thank you Bro!
Doesn't show in my cinema 4d. Im on R15 mac, and I've nividia Geforce 9400M. Do I need to have cuds installed as well? Graham
Hello! I am having the same issue as the person above where the Octane dropdown menu shows up but I get a message that says "There is no cuda drive which is supported by Octane render." The octane website says you can download a cuda driver from here: www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html
Do you know if Octane can work with Intel Iris GPU? I am using a mac mini 2014.
Thank you!
since I use cinema4d R14 so often comes the word '' not eugh memory '' please explain it
hmmm, interesting. Frist off, what type of GPU do you have? also how much RAM does your PC have?
so clear , nice"!!
talk so quickly , dont work with my r14
I WILL TRY WITH MY C4D R17
the weird thing is dont show me windows of errors , but dont work too with my r17 i will do now what you say , thanks for your support
dont work too
*John Burdock* in Octane's FAQ it says,i can't buy plugin only, the standalone is unnecessary.
Thank you so much for that detailed explaination John! Now i got it:) And yeah, you're absolutely right! I will let you know;) Thank you John ;)!
Not a problem :D! Happy to help :). and thank you :D.
Thank you for replying so fast!!! I have fixed it. The version i had was not updated nor were the GPU drivers
No problem :D! So happy octane is working for you now :D! Thank you for the comment, and thank you for the info. If any of my youtube users have issues with octane, I'll make sure to ask them to check there GPU drivers first :D!
please update this with the latest Cinema 4D 2024.04
thx
hey i just bought the licensed version and did the same exact thing. it lookes exactly the same as what you got except the viewer docent have the lines and octane symbol. the only thing thats missing is the octane exporter. do you have any idea how i can download that?
Hello @Dave Rickards :D! Thank you for the question :)! I'm afraid then i've never tried to export with octane that way. I've always just gone into render settings and set my renderer as Octane, then just exported like I normally do, by clicking the "Render to picture viewer button. :). I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Let me know how it goes though, and when you find the answer, what it was :).
thank you very much :)
No problem! :D! Thank you for the comment ^^!
it works! thanks man... do you know how to activate it? for free?
No problem :D! Glad you found this tutorial helpful :)! I'm afraid that the only way I know how to activate Octane render, is by purchasing a license. I don't know of any free way of doing this. :)
hii when i copy the octane folder then delete the files except r19 c4d doesnt start completely? can i get help
Hmmm, I would try keeping all the files and see if that works. Let me know how it goes.
I did it on r19 and Octane tab isn't there

dude, just dont delete all versions
Okay, I’ll try thaf
How’s it going?

Please help me if Possible
Hmmm this seems like it could be an issue with the wrong octane file running. Try reinstalling Octane render and this time leave all the files and dont deleat any of them, after you launch octane, you will get alot of errors, just click through them and see it it crashes after that. it it does, you can try following this video I have that show how to keep Substance Painter from crashing, this same procces should ehlpe Octane render as well. ruclips.net/video/SIetNZWQ7RM/видео.html

Wow nice! Smart fix there :D! Who would have guessed that was it. Not a problem at all :D! Glad we were able to figure this out :D!
Lal thanks dude!
John, I'm having the same problem that Aleeh had. I found out that I only have R16 (16.011) so I tried opting for the r15 version (I deleted all .dylib files except for the 15 one) but the Octane tab still isn't showing up for me. Any Idea how I can fix this?
Thx man! before watching this,i didn't delete the other cdl64 files,so every time i got some dll errors:) Thx for note!

Does it work on pirated software?
having such a massive problem with this!
Thanks, I updated the Nvidia, but not C4d yet, I'll let you know :)
awesome! Sound good!
does it work with an nvidia 9800 1gb?
I'm afraied that it only works with GTX GPU's sadly :(. So i'm afraied not.
Well I see the Octane tab, but once I click it, nothing opens :/

Awesome! So glad you were able to get it working :D!
is the demo limited with days ?
or it just has the water mark & limited resolution ?
The only limitation is water mark and resolution :). You can keep it for as long as you want :D! I hate time limits on demos xD! Such pressure to learn it fast xD!
thanks for the reply!
No problem :D! Happy to help!
What's the price on this anyway, since it's such a good renderer i assume it's pretty expensive

hi , it's empty menu in my C4D R18
Hello Andrew :)! Hmm, interesting. So when you download the Octane Demo, there is no files inside the folder?
is this render increase my render speed ? normally my c4d take 2 min per frame i am very frustrated is this render increase its speed or not please reply :/
Thank you very much for responding to Spy's question and helping him out :D! Really appreciate that!
can you test out on your computer
installing octane on a amd gpu
in cinema 4d
will the octane tab show up?
i tried it and it didnt
So far as I know, Octane only works with Nvidia GPUs. Perhaps this will change in the future.
I'm afraid that Niel is right, Octane only runs on Nvidia GPU's at the moment. If you would like to use your AMD GPU to render though, you could try out the Cycles renderer. It does support AMD GPU's :D!
Didn't work for me :(
hi where can i dowload it ? thanks
Hello :). Here is the site where you can download the Octane Demo :). Let me know if you have any more questions :).
Not working for OSX 10.13 High Sierra :/
hi john thanks for the video.
is it work with crack verion of c4d r18 and win10 ??
Hello :)! Thank you for your comment! I have used Octane on windows 10 with C4D R18, but its a licenced version. So I don't have any experience using it with a cracked copy :). This said I think it should still work. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help :).
Did it work for the cracked version?
From what I heard from other users, it should work, this said, I would still recommend downloading the demo first, to see if it works with your copy of C4D. :).
Your title says "Demo"...does the mean it's temporary or not the full version?
Yep, this is a tutorial on showing you how to download and install the demo of octane. So it will have watermarks on it when you render. This said the process of installing the Demo is exactly the same as installing the paid version of Octane C4D. Let me know if you need any more info :)!
Thnaks....Is buying it necessary... Does it change the quality of your work compered to Physical render? Does it make work more realistic or something.... I tried researching but I can't find answers
And do i only pay once or is it yearly for Octane.... I wanna use it for animations is Octane good for animations or only still images
Sorry for the hassle :)
I dont have the manual folder in my octane .rar file please help
Hello, thank you for your comment :). To get the manual for Octane render, you need to download it separately from this link. render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=60816 After you have downloaded the Octane Manual file, you will need to right click it and extract it to the Octane render folder that you placed in the Maxon plugins folder. let me know if you need any more information :).

in the video I show how to get to the Maxon folder, if you tryed using drive C: and could not find the folder, trying looking and checking if you have other drives on your computer, such as drive E:. If you do have a second drive, try looking for the Maxon folder in that one, following the same steps I show in the video. Hope this helps :).

education lisence can't use plugin???
Oh! Keep all file!
Yep you can keep all the R13-R18 files and it will still work, it just will give you errors when you launch C4D, but after you click though them it will work :).
why tf do you have 4 harddrives??? like I get 2 but 4 seams excessive
great tutorial though very helpful, thanks
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful :)! My first hard drive is my SSD, this is for speed, the second is my media drive, to hold all my big files, the 3rd is a backup of the media drive, to keep everything safe, and the 4th is an SD card I had plugged into my PC :).
octane wont pop up whenever i click on it. interesting...
nvm, my c4d had to update in order to load octane
Awesome! Glad you were able to get it working :D!
R19, got it to work by putting R18 file in. Cant for the life of me get it to work on R20 even after the SDK.zip extraction
Man, that is really strange. So far Octane has worked well with R20 for me. I would recommend contacting Octane support and see what they say. This is a very strange issue. It most certainly should work.
So it’s turns out it was version related. Octane is only supported after 20.059 I was on 20.030 updated my software and fixed the problem.
@@Arxitec Oh! That makes sense. Good find! Glad you were able to get it working. Thanks for the info on the fix as well :)!
@@Arxitec It took me 2 weeks to find this solution. Holy shit. Update your Cinema 4D's guys i almost pulled my hair out on this one lol
