I think you’re spot on with the Pavoratti analogy. The way Tom Ford makes a hit is being minimal and pushing on those elements. Developing the aspect. This is like a stripped down Pavorat with less fruit and more of a caramel / hay dry down. Pretty linear. Have 10mls and enjoy it thoroughly but won’t be paying thousands for it. I have to say after watching this I appreciate the craft of the composition even more. Nicely done Ram

I did really like it, as I'm enjoying great oakmoss frags more. Balenciaga, etc.

I've always wanted to try this. My buddy bought the DUA clone and sent me a decant. It'd atrocious. I don't trust that DUA is faithfully recreating these lost fragrances. I was also sent me the clone of Acier Aluminum, and that wasn't very close until you get to the far drydown, and then they are in the same area code, but still not very close. What are your thoughts about clones of vaulted/impossible fragrances to find? In my opinion, 9 times out of 10, they fall well short of the goal. I also think they might be unsafe because there is no oversight

I used to think the only thing that I could get behind is bringing impossible to find fragrances back to life (like creed royal service but how can anyone be sure it's an accurate interpretation? Aside from that, it's a scummy business model.

Nothing mentioned about the unusual name for this fragrance? Nice review, although I think you owe it to your viewers to at least pronounce the name of the fragrance correctly. It’s pronounced , not . Being an American with no French does not really grant you a viable pass when devoting a post to a single fragrance, for a little googling can give you the (very simple) pronunciation. Up your nerd game slightly higher, my friend. Brèches is a village in the Loire Valley, but the word itself also means ‘breeches’, or, in other words, a type of trouser. So, is the name of the fragrance a nod to that region of France (doubtful), or is there some kind of cheeky innuendo having to do with men’s trousers and woodlands. (We all know Tom Ford’s occasional predilection for that kind of innuendo in his marketing.) The ‘PG-rated’, and perhaps most likely, interpretation of the name might be simply the fusion of the fragrance’s elements: ‘Moss,’ denoting the fragrance’s (proclaimed, at least) earthy and aromatic elements, and perhaps ‘Breches’ as a nod to men’s sartorial history, and thus to the history of men’s perfumery. (Breeches were sometimes crafted from leather in the 19thC, though leather is not a major player in MB. Some kind of honeyed vanilla is, rather.) Personally, I don’t find it to be brilliant. Its scarcity is its primary value. And do you not catch even a slight connection to Derby? Much more ‘moss’ there, of course.
