Before you explanation, I would have said quite the exact opposite for "fork out" hardly spend, but for a good reason (dig\fork the soil > hard, for growing tasty vegetables> good) 😅
What I like about Ben is that he teaches us how to analyse phrasal verbs instead of just memorizing them, it all makes the difference in learning. You shine Ben!!!!!
Thanks a lot Ben, I love studying phrasal verbs, which they are tricky albeit captivating. Your B2 course is truly useful in order to pass the exam, which I'm looking forward to taking it. Beside this, you are the best english teacher on You Tube and not only!
Can we use all these examples in writing mazagine article, speech, argumentative writings? I mean the informal ones in writing paper, I'm preparing for my olevel cie English exams, can i use these?
Teacher Ben, thank you so much for your great job. I'm happy that I've found your channel and I now recommend it to all my friends who study English 📖 📓 🙂 God bless you 🙏❤️💙💛With love from Ukraine ❤️ 🤗 🙂 🇺🇦
Thanks a million! Great stuff. One request, Ben: could you please talk about the possibilities for the particles/prepositions that come after the phrasal verbs when you deal with them? For example: after fork out the prepositions 'for' and 'on are possible. After splash out, 'on'. I would naturally choose 'on' thinking of 'spend on sth' but I'm always cautious not to generalise when it comes to English. So many exceptions! 🙂
Fork out: force to spend money. Neg Splash out: spend money on sth special. Positive. Fork out opposite to Splash out. Gloss over opposite to dwell on. Wise up: become more aware of sth
as someone who is too self-critical, every time i made a mistake even just a minor one, I can't stop dwelling on it, i kept thinking about it over and over again like crazy! It's really hard to change this negative behavior. So tiring 😢
I used to gloss over the fact that I’m upset about certain things because it was pretty challenging for me to open up. Now I don’t really dwell on opportunity to share with my deepest concerns, especially if it is shared in the company of trustworthy people 😅
Phrasal verbs! This is one of the trickiest topics in English 😅, along with pronunciation😰. Thank you for enlightening us a little more on this topic.🤗
I sometimes like to splash out something for me but then I wise up that I've being forking out too much and glossing over on why there is so little money left, I realized I'm dwelling on my lack of money and I try saving it
Don't dwell on trivialities Don't gloss over the main problem go to the essence of the exam Don't splash your money uninimportant books and courses but stick to the essential course and an experienced teacher
Hi Ben, thanks for this lesson! I heard just a couple of those phrasal verbs, gloss over and wise up, though I've never used them in my conversations... Just a question about 'dwell on', has it the same meaning of 'whine about'? Cheers
Example with the phrasal verb fork out: A few days before my graduation in marine biology in 2018, I had to fork out on a new suit for the occasion, you know, I had to cough up some cash to get decked out for the big day. Gloss over = After failing to get the desired score on the IELTS exam on my first attempt about 3 years ago, I tried to downplay the setback, but looking back, I realize that I shouldn't have glossed over the failure because I wasn't truly prepared for it. Wise up = It's time to wise up to the fact the often-recited litany of human-induced climate change has had a severely damaging effect on the delicate and fragile ecosystem.
1. fork out ;SPEND a money for the things that u don't want for Example my parents fork out for my studies 2.splash out : Spending a lot of money for something make me happy but i don't need it for exampke i splash out for my skin care routine 3.wise up/aware : we must to wise up about the real goals of feminism 4.dwell on : over thinking and talking about something negative and unpleasent 5.glass over : to talk about something with less importance for example don't glass over this topics
Don’t dwell on whether you will flunk the exam or not just try to gloss over all the mistakes that you think you might make throughout the course of the exam cuz you might actually end up splashing out a great deal of money for nothing by taking the test so it’s time to wise up and realize that you can’t afford to fork out so much money on a test without passing it!
in what social class do people use fork out more than in other socioeconomic class? I ask because the translation to my language would be used by workers on the street and it would be a more nasty way of saying that you have to spend a lot of money for something..

Phrasal verbs! This is one of the trickiest topics in English 😅, along with pronunciation😰. Thank you for enlightening us a little more on this topic.🤗
You're welcome, Cristina 🙂
My favourite teacher😍
😘
splash out is positive fork out is negative a guess
I sometimes like to splash out something for me but then I wise up that I've being forking out too much and glossing over on why there is so little money left, I realized I'm dwelling on my lack of money and I try saving it
I don't want to splash out on anything, which isn't paramount.
Don't dwell on trivialities Don't gloss over the main problem go to the essence of the exam Don't splash your money uninimportant books and courses but stick to the essential course and an experienced teacher
To fork up ot to splash out, it all BOILS DOWN to "money's too tight to mention" (we're talk-in' about money money)
😆🕺
Hi Ben, thanks for this lesson!
I heard just a couple of those phrasal verbs, gloss over and wise up, though I've never used them in my conversations...
Just a question about 'dwell on', has it the same meaning of 'whine about'?
Cheers
No, they have very different meanings
Thank you!👍
You're welcome 🙂
Ben is the best!
Am i right about it?
fork out = dig out
splash out = waste money in vain
gloss over = exaggerate
dwell on =ovethink much
wise up= be smarter
You're right about dwell on and wise up but not the other.
You've got a very charming smile... Ps the content is also amazing :) I wish you Ben all the best ;)

1. fork out ;SPEND a money for the things that u don't want for Example my parents fork out for my studies
2.splash out : Spending a lot of money for something make me happy but i don't need it for exampke i splash out for my skin care routine
3.wise up/aware : we must to wise up about the real goals of feminism
4.dwell on : over thinking and talking about something negative and unpleasent

Don’t dwell on whether you will flunk the exam or not just try to gloss over all the mistakes that you think you might make throughout the course of the exam cuz you might actually end up splashing out a great deal of money for nothing by taking the test so it’s time to wise up and realize that you can’t afford to fork out so much money on a test without passing it!
I need to fork out for buying a new Samsung phone.
I have to attend a Christmas party at work which forces me to fork out on a new suit to meet the instructed dress code.
The budget has been scaled back
In era of technology, most of nations have to fork out on weapons to protect from problematic neighbors
I had to fork out on a new phone because my old one was not working properly.
He paused to mull over how much he had splashed out in that luxury shop
in what social class do people use fork out more than in other socioeconomic class? I ask because the translation to my language would be used by workers on the street and it would be a more nasty way of saying that you have to spend a lot of money for something..
This story stems from the fact
Let’s muster up all the evidences before they glossing over it
I wonder if you will be splashing out on Tuesday for a proper Valentine's meal 🤔
I'm not particularly romantic, but I suppose I'll have to fork out on something 😆

Don't you think that ten minutes for five phraseal verbs is a bit too long? Highly inefficient.
No, I don't. I think it's not enough
