  • Let's go back to 1988 Disneyland in Anaheim, California! We'll take a walking tour and ride some rides. Check out a few of the highlights: The original Disneyland sign and the front entrance; Town Square with character meet-and-greets and Main Street Transportation; Tomorrowland, including a ride on the Peoplemover, monorail to the Disneyland Hotel, the submarines and Autopia; a ride on the Skyway through Matterhorn Mountain; See Splash Mountain under construction as we travel the Rivers of America on the Mark Twain Riverboat; see Big Thunder Mountain and the Jungle Cruise; Alice in Wonderland dark ride and It's a Small World, and we'll end with the Main Street Electric Light Parade.
There are a few specific goals of Travel Towner:
    1. To take fun POV (“Point-of-View”) videos of scenic drives, highways, and roadways so you can virtually travel anywhere you like; or look back at a time when you were younger.
    2. Document a fun walking tour of a specific park, attraction, or point of interest so you can see what's it's like to really be there.
    3. Showcase vintage footage from yesteryear to show today's viewers what is may have been like back in 19- something something! If you have any vintage footage of past attractions, parks, road trips or anything interesting from the USA? Contact me and let’s feature it here!
    4. Just for Fun. These are videos that are funny or interesting in some way that I think everyone will enjoy!
Please give a "thumbs up" if you like taking a POV Road Trip or love POV driving.
Want to get in on the fun and make cool videos too? Here is everything I use to make it happen:
(Please note I may make a small commission if you purchase- thank you for supporting this channel!)
    The iMac to edit: amzn.to/3AMBhWv
    Video Camera: amzn.to/3xwP29F
    Steadycam: amzn.to/3wvdaIv
    Media: amzn.to/3hS4Ihp
Another big part of the channel is to document a piece of Americana… at a certain point in time. Wouldn’t it be cool to go back to where you lived, 20 or 30 years ago, and take a ride through your hometown? As more roadway drives, walking tours, and vintage trips are added, it builds history so future viewers can go “back in time” and see what it was like, back then.
Roadtripping and traveling are uniquely American pastimes- and we should preserve it’s history- so future generations can appreciate the Freedom of the Road.
Please like the videos and subscribe to the channel. Leaving comments is a great way to tell ME what you’d like to see next.

For comments about the music- I feel ya! However- some of the original audio in the Disneyland Background triggered the RUclips copyright bots. Rather than have silent video, I overlaid some copyright-free music to compensate/blur the audio. I really wish it ALL was original background sounds and music- but RUclips ain't havin' it. Sorry about that! 😀

I was 9 years old back in '88 but this is pretty much how I remember Disneyland too. My family only went once a year so it had been a big thing. I shake my head seeing that line for Star Tours as I remember seeing it in person at that time and how it took so long and seeing the posted signs of "One hour from this point" or something similar and bemoaning the wait. Then there had been the dinner's we would eat at that one place on Main Street. I can't recall the name but if I remember right it was towards the right side of Cinderella's Castle/Tomorrowland and it was a buffet like line.
The Autopia in both Tomorrowland and Fantasyland were among my favorites and I loved going on the Monorail. For some reason the whole Mission to Mars thing terrified me even though we never went on it but I never liked the idea of going on it. Space Mountain was the other big line wait job and I remember thinking it was lucky if the line started just after going up that ramp. Of course leaving it my parents always had to steer me away from the arcade which I always attempted to make a beeline towards.
The Skyway was odd as I was half terrified of being up high but still interested in seeing how the park looked from up there but I always found arriving at the stations fascination with that big rotating wheel pulling on the cables.
    Fun times and fun memories.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Disneyland has now ended its normal operating day. We hope you've enjoyed your visit to the Magic Kingdom and that you'll be back with us again soon . Drive carefully on your way home. Goodnight!" Man... 1988... I was 18 years old back then. This is the Disneyland I remember so fondly. Still irks me that Skyway and PeopleMover are gone. Oh such good memories. I lived 4 miles away and a basic pass was well worth getting. They were open till 1 am on Sunday nights all year so you could go ride everything. Yes, the old Disneyland Hotel was almost like a mini-Disneyland within itself! I LOVED being there! I still have a couple items I purchased at the Seaports Of The Pacific gift shop wharf. And when I have trouble falling asleep at night, I'll mentally see myself back there, walking around the Disneyland Hotel, or sitting on a little patio in front of The Bottle Shop, near the swimming pool, where I'd relax with lunch. That usually stills my mind to the point that I'll fall asleep.

In 1996 I moved from Massachusetts to Los Angeles where I lived for 20 years before relocating back to MA in 2015. Although I get back to SoCal at least once a year with my daughters who were born in Los Angeles, I do miss being able to drive 30 minutes south for a visit whenever I wanted. This was Disneyland at its best...it has only gone downhill since then. Furthermore, I believe this time slice of Disneyland is the epitome of Walt’s vision. Too bad wrong executives got into power to ruin it. The idea to build DCA was ludicrous (California within California???).
I think most people would have preferred to just enlarge the park and keep one admission fee. Disney Corporation, “Tear Down that Berlin Wall”... in the central plaza and unite!
What I would do (if I could):
Re-build the Peoplemover to travel through the entire double park area, with off-on stations scattered in a few key locations. Build an elevated motorized walkway above the conjoined park, from Harbor Blvd with the admission gates, trams, and extending to Downtown Disney and hotels. It can be done, using some of Walt’s wisdom.
