    There is one thing that everybody is missing. It is THE LOGIC of the things. You add it and I like it. As far as the 12 principles, you can find it in 1000 videos on it. What I can not find is on 5:00. That is WHY did you add things like motion lines, flower around the panda and couple of other things. I mean, it is easy to make those things in AI and add them to AE. The problem is what to add, when to add and why to add it, what timing/spacing will it have etc.
    As a plastic example I will use (as always Peppa):
    Like, we all know why Peppa jumps into the puddles. Thing is when she jumps, how to lead to it, how much water should splash, how much screen shatter, will there be a motion blur, will her face turn into a flower as the panda face did (bad example). Let's say, will the water splash be in a shape of a flower and of what color and what will it mean. Will that splash be in a shape of motion lines coming out of paddle and forming love sign. This may be a bit of a stretch for Peppa, but in motion design there are lines all over it and I can not figure why. All I can see is that they look nice.
    There is no place we can find why things are done, only how. I would love to see more on your take on why you do things in your motion design. We already have 1000 videos on 12 principles already and ...
    (I wrote 500 words here, have a good day, go outside everybody. Cheers)

      You make some really good points and I totally agree. I'll do my best to cover topics that are not that well covered yet, so that I'm not just repeating stuff that's already been said a million times over somewhere else. I get what you're saying about not understanding when certain visual techniques and devices should be used, and the right circumstances for their use, and it's a valid point because it is difficult to find any sort of resources explaining things like that. So I will make a note of it and make sure to cover it in a video. Thanks for the feedback as always! I appreciate your comments and viewpoints!

    Super video. Think you should do a video on what processes to cut when on a budget and a tight deadline. Might have beginners breaking themselves trying to fulfill all these criteria. If the client isn't paying for the time, curves and easing are definitely the first to go in my workflow, followed by the 12 principles. Always keep overlap, timing, pace, and rhythm. Also, remember the client's brand, the 12 principles might not compliment their look. Agree on the static images, even a 5% zoom/scale (I call a "moving hold"). Done correctly, a blank frame can be used to accentuate a change/point, but should be super brief, complemented by the music, and doesn't seem to work as well if it isn't black. Order and structure... Starting from the folders on the drive to the layers in your imaging software, bins in your editors, objects and scenes in your 3d software, etc... order... order... order... so much time gets wasted figuring out what a previous artist did on a project. Once spent 2 full days sifting through 6 drives looking for shots used in a 7 minute edit a previous editor botched. Actually. Looking at that image again. Looks like there were more than 6 drives. Age and memory :\

    • @RobynO_O
      @RobynO_O  3 года назад

      You're right, there are things that need to go out the window when there's a really tight budget or limiting deadline. If you don't tweak the curves in the graph editor I'd at least then use the keyframe assistant and still apply easy ease. I think some of the 12 principles are still important, like arcs in certain movements, and that's easy enough to do with just the bezier handles in the composition. So it's really up to the discretion of the animator and the output they're wanting to achieve. It could be looked at from a workflow perspective, and you'd leave out the last steps of workflow such as refinement if you were on a tight deadline or budget. But there are also other ways of meeting short deadlines and budgets and a lot of it would be addressed in the development stage, creating a more simplistic look and feel and supporting the simplified animation with designs and a motion treatment that compliment it. There should be give and take - if you want top notch animation, the run time of the video should be shortened to accommodate that and still fit in the budget, or other ways of balancing quality and tight budget/time.
