The extradition agreement between UK & US is one way. No US citizen can ever be extradited from the US to any other country no matter what the crime. What we see here is the UK government aiding the US government to extradite an Australian journalist.

The Australian govt is also holding Dan Duggan, an Australian citizen, in solitary confinement, without charge on behalf of the US govt pending extradition for legal actions that were not a crime at the time. So a law retrospectively applied. All that 11th hour hand wringing and letter writing by the Australian parliament on behalf of Julian Assange was a pantomime to soothe an increasingly angry public.

What I don’t understand, the American, Chelsea Manning, who provided the information has been pardoned. No one seems to find that weird in the continuation of the prosecution of Julian Assange. Surely Chelsea Manning’s decision to leak this information should be viewed in the same lens. By that president Juliann Assange should not be prosecuted by the American judiciary.

What happened to David Cameron's promise to protect whistleblowers from vindictive actions from those they have exposed.? Julian has committed no crime under UK so should be totally exempt from extradition. If the UK sought to extradite a US citizen in those circumstances they would be given short shrift, and laughed at. Accordingly, the UK gov should have thrown out this political vengeance nonsense from the start. As a result of them not doing so, an innocent man under UK law has been already been incarcerated longer than convicted bank robbers and some murderers.

Journalistic freedom is essential, but there’s a difference between the indiscriminate wholesale publication of millions of classified documents & making references to specific source documents to give credence to a story you are publishing that has a clear public interest

I bet you've never actually watched his account or the Wikileaks film called Collateral Murder which revealed the Apache cockpit videos and audio recordings of the pilots responsible for killing completely unarmed people in the street.
