  • One resident sounded off after New Orleans streets were flooded on July 10, 2019. "You have cars flooding where they never flooded before," he said.

    I'm sure this man echos the sentiments of the majority of New Orleans residents. America's best civil engineers need to help New Orleans figure out this flooding issue very soon.

    • @brucemarsico6
      @brucemarsico6 5 лет назад +2

      Since US engineers are too inept to remedy the flood risk perhaps the USAshould import Dutch engineers. Obviously they've been able to keep and evenreclaim land from the ocean. Since they've been doing this for centuries,I guess they're more capable to deal with flood conditions.

    🤨New Orleans never heard of the word "Tornado", until after Katrina.Its unsettling to only focus on tourism and not city and housing development.
    The corruption has been for generations and the residents suffer because of it. And why wasnt the Morganza Spillway used to get some of the water out? A lot of New Orleans residents cannot even afford to live in their city. Damn shame.

  • @getitwright2012
    @getitwright2012 5 лет назад +31

    The corruption so dam bad...its no reason that city should not be better equipped to handle this reoccurrence problem. That city has major capital no reason to be like that even on a drizzle rain it floods. This jus sad

      The French Quarter, which is what New Orleans was originally built around, is above sea level. New Oreans has long been a significant port city and vital to the south east. Do some research.

    • @dominicstewart-guido7598
      @dominicstewart-guido7598 5 лет назад +6

      More accurately, what do you expect when you have a state with such out of control corruption. Amsterdam is also below sea level, no flooding. We need to throw all corrupt politicians in jail and force the large oil industry to pay for coastal restoration and flood protection since it's estimated that those companies caused as much as 90 percent of the damage.

      @dominicstewart-guido7598 5 лет назад

      @@aundrayperkins9796 You are correct, southern Louisiana is not meant for long term residence. The Native Americans living there knew this, as they would stay in the fall and winter and leave for the spring and summer. Too hot, and more importantly, too flood prone. However, they did recognize the regions importance as one of the richest parts of the world because of the fertility of the land and the huge abundance of natural resources. When the french came to build their city, they were warned not to build any sort of permanent structure there, let alone a city, but they did anyway because of the huge value in terms of natural resources, ports, river control (rivers were so important back then that controlling the Mississippi River meant controlling the interior of North America and in turn would also grant them the ability to prevent a nearby country from expanding to close to, or on to the other bank of the river). It's control on the river was so important that it caused a large part of the growth in Chicago and New York City. When Chicago was built, a canal was built linking Lake Erie to the Illinois River, and in turn the Mississippi River, which eventually led to New Orleans. Also New York grew a significant amount after the Erie Canal was built, which connected it to New Orleans. In the present day, while there should be no long term residence, there are so many huge ports and corporations operating in souther Louisiana that moving out would end up costing significantly more money than spending billions of dollars on restoring the coast and implementing flood defense systems.
