The Man Clearing 9,000 Tons of Trash From Mumbai’s Beaches
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 янв 2018
- Over three years ago, Versova beach in Mumbai was little more than a dumping ground for garbage and waste. After witnessing the devastating impact the refuse was having on the ocean, Afroz Shah decided to take matters into his own hands. What started off as a single man’s mission to clean up his favorite childhood beach turned into the world’s largest beach cleanup initiative. As of today, Shah and hundreds of volunteers have cleaned up over nine million kilograms of plastic and waste, with hopes to expand their initiative to other beaches in the future.

Yeah, he was STUPID for cleaning the trash that OTHERS threw.
*STUPID* people made fun of him, that is.
it takes LOCALS to change their minds. I dont believe white men can come and do it alone. they need to see the change in mindset from a guy like him. Then they can learn and follow suit.

I've been doing this on my own for 3 years now. Whenever I'm in the jungle or on a beach I always spend a little bit of time to pick the trash. I won't succeed alone. But I'm doing my part 😊
I know the feeling he got when he's doing it. It's amazing!
We all need more people like him in the world. If I was in Mumbai, I would volunteer my time to clean there too.
You don't have to be in Mumbai, I'm sure there are places near you where there's trash to be picked up. Maybe not in that huge quatity (thankfully) but surely there's beach, parks, forests, by the road side that could use your help. Search for local groups who organise clean ups or create them yourself.
u can do it anywhere, or even in a nearby beach, y’know.
We don't need more of him, we need to all BE him. I guess you're saying the same thing, but the point is, we're not going to be saved by one superman. He is not a superman. He's an ordinary guy, doing what WE ALL should be doing, regardless of where we are.

@anonymous "from the west" blabla. I live in Germany and we don't throw our trash in the ocean or in rivers. We use trashcans. It is either recycled or burned for energy. Here they even import trash for burning because we don't have enough in my city. NOWHERE in Europe does it look like in India. This is disgusting and it is not the fault of the west when people in India, Nepal etc. throw their trash away without thinking. For gods sake take some responsibility for your lives. Behave like adults. And if you complain about western lifestyle then change your life. Bye bye computer, smartphone, youtube. Hypocrite. Western lifestyle is also about loving forests, nature AND USING TRASHCANS (we have one bin for trash, one for plastic and pagaging, one for paper, one for electric devices and one for compost)!!! Most garbage in the oceans come from 5 rivers and they are all either in Asia or in Africa.

I'm glad I live in a country where the government, NGOs and people take recycling seriously. In my household I separate A) paper, B) plastic, C) glass and D) "the rest" and bring it to special bins outside our apartment buildings (Europe, the Czech Republic). India should do something on the state/government level with recyclation.
In first world countries we usually send our trash to third world countries, keep that in mind as well.
It’s voluntary in most states in the US. A LOT of ppl dont do it either, and they have so many bags of garbage out on Mon night. I cant fill a bag a week. I compost also. Unfortunately we can only recycle #1 and #2 plastics. There’s supposed to be a ban on styrofoam and straws coming soon. We used to have TV commercials on no littering. I see nothing like it anymore.
Apparently there is no $ in it or our govt would make recycling laws.
