I wouldnt worry too much about torque spec, it wouldnt surprise me that back then it was done from the factory just by feel. Been working on brakes for more than 10 years, always tightened by hand, and not a single caliper has ever fallen off xD just good and tight will do mate! Its not a rocketship you're working on! 😂 Love the series, watched every minute of it and loved every second!
After watching this series, I can understand why Rolls Royce cars are so expensive brand new. The quality is amazing. You are doing a fantastic job bringing this lady back to glory. Keep up the amazing work. Best wishes from the USA!
That car is looking better and better with each little job you do. The luxurious feel is even coming through in the video. That latest start up was sooo sweet - she purrs like a kitten now. Well done Vince! Keep up the great work.
What I love about cleaning glass (esp compared to soft plastic light covers) is that when you're done it looks better. Those soft plastic ones require so much effort to keep them looking nice.

Found this series about 4 days ago, I’m now caught up. Awaiting next update. Great job doing DIY fixes, I’d do somethings different but some of your fixes are brilliant. I’m now waiting for the MOT with anxiety.
Vince, I know very little about cars generally and even less about Rolls Royce but I love watching this series and am excited to see this car finished and on the road!
Vince, when doing power steering fluid you have to bleed the system, its very simple after topping up like you did turn on engine and turn steering to hard locks both ways two to three times then check your levels. Top up after if needed. Keep it up mate
Hi Vince , rather than silicone direct to glass , do what we used to do for draught proofing metal windows. Clean the surface, apply a bead of silicone then in your case put cling film over the glass ( like covering it as if it was a bowl of soup) then lightly oil (cooking oil) the mating face of the film, dont get any wrinkles. Then put the 2 together but dont clip tight use clamps so only squeezing the silicone but not fully. Wait till set fully then separate the two, remove the cling film, and clean away any oil, trim off excess silicone the put together and fully clip. This will now compress the silicone seal. Tip : dont use too much silicone or you wont get the clips on.
Concentrated coolant/antifreeze is normally mixed 50 / 50 with water and then added to the system. You then need to run the engine up to temperature and then check the strength once cold with antifreeze tester which you can pick up very cheaply. No need for that "special" antifreeze its an ethylene glycol based anti freeze so bog standard anti freeze will do the job. Different colours denote hoe long the inhibitor will last before it needs changing. Quickest way to drain the system is to undo the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator, saying that if it will come undone & not snap :) The power steering is a sealed system so you have a leak somewhere and you had to add quite a lot. Another job for you Vince. Keep rotating your tyres Vince otherwise you will have flat spots where it has sat for a prolonged period wrecking your brand new tyres. Careful where you use Hammerite as it contains silicon which reacts with automotive paints so steer clear of the exterior bodywork with it. Fine for the under carriage. Are those torque settings in the service manual in foot pounds & not Newton meters? If so you need to convert them. I had a look for you but my system has no service data for Rolls Royce. If you send me a link I will quite happily look through the service manual and find the torque for you.
@@chrisprobert6 Deionised water is preferable but how many years has this vehicle just has plain tap water added to it? I don't think it will make much difference to it now.
Hello Vince! Great (entertaining) progress on the Rolls! The leak is going to be in the high pressure power steering hose. Its always the high pressure hose because that one costs a mint! The low pressure hose is always cheap...Well maybe not on a Rolls...I talked to my mechanic about your car and he claims they're designed to lubricate the road as they move along,,,Leaks and all, I think you're going to have some fun times with that car when you're done. I hope you'll provide some footage of your "picnic in the country" when you're all done with it.
Vince once your front indicator lens is fixed, before you do anything else, pop the car down to the MOT station, This will give you a baseline to carry on with your project. If it passes well you will be super happy. The MOT will show either a fail and list what it failed on, or Pass and show a list of advisories, or if you are lucky a full pass with no faults. With a car lying for so long, various bushes can go hard and crack, get these done next.if they are problematic, you will not see them working on your back below the car, the MOT tester has everything up on a ramp at eye level. So time to get your baseline sorted. I'm one that loves the Roller vids, you certainly chose a doozy of a project as your first.
Whenever you start a car that has been sitting up... it's a good idea to let it run for 10 or 15 minutes, better even to drive a bit. This allows the battery to charge, and critically any moisture in the crankcase to evaporate. Chronic short starts and short runs can damage the engine, battery and charging system. The worst thing you can do to a machine is let it sit. Worse still is intermittently operating without allowing it to reach proper operating temperature. Good work so far. Your attention to detail and meticulous approach should net you a fantastic result. Good on you
Late to the game but really enjoying watching your journey with the rolls. Just wanted to mention when using a torque wrench, it's moving force you're torquing to. Takes more force to break a stationary bolt than to turn it when already moving so if the torque wrench clicks on a stationary bolt and the bolt doesn't move that doesn't mean the bolt had been torqued to that spec, could still be under. Same reason double clicking is pointless 🙂
I really enjoy watching this car pull itself together under your TLC. That was a great shot of you rolling it forward (24:09). Keep after it, a lot of the most intense work is already complete. Man, a Rolls Royce!
Brilliant progress Vince, you’re doing such a great job…. When I had my Jaguar XJS 5.2 V12 (pre HE engine) I think it was a 1978 model, it used to do 10-11 MPG but it was worth it 😊 I raced a golf GTI on Hempstead road from the lights, they had the initial start, until the V12 kicked in and I shot passed and it got up to 80 then changed into 2nd gear lol.
Torque for brake caliper should be 110nm but just do it good and tight and you won’t have a problem as I’ve done this for many years and never had any issues
Great Series! I have gotten to the point that I don't want to miss a single one. The headlight looks great with that chrome pen work. Keep up the great content!

Nice steps forward :) Looking at the brake discs, you may need to do some hard braking tests before MOT to get rid of the rust on those discs. They might fail for uneven braking force between sides or axles if they are that rusty. Also as the disc is cleaner, where the brake pads were, when the car was standing still, it may cause some brake pulsation as rusty sections don't hold as well as clean disc. If they don't pass, one option might be machining the brake discs with brake lathe, if there's enough material left on those discs.

Hi Vince , cant comment on the Bowers and Wilkins zeppelin fix video for some reason ? Anyway my comment was to fix the mesh tears get some fine invisible thread from sewing store and carefully pull the edges together not too tightly though. Great vid though . I have the Bose soundlink mini II that is incredible for its size.
Talking of "going shopping" on other people's cars has reminded me of seeing lots of Volkswagens without their VW badges when I was really young. I remember my mum telling me that it was because of the Beastie Boys. For years I thought that must have been the name of a local gang 😳😅🤣
Hi ya buddy. You are doing a great job on the old girl. Brake calliper bolts should really have a little lock tight on them. 75nm ain't to bad IF locktight is used to stop them coming loose. Dont over tighten them as they are old bolts and it could subject them to metal fatigue. I would just pop them out and put some red locktight on them then do the up to about 85nm. 😅
You could find two screws that fit nicely into the locating pin sockets then using a pliers to hold, heat the head of the screw so it will melt into the back of the lens leaving the the threaded part to act as the locating pin. or even drill a hole in the lens, run a screw into the hole, then using your Dremel cut off the head of the screw leaving the screw as the locating pin. Then use epoxy to attach nuts to the bottom of the lens, use the nuts hole as the tab ears to run a new screw through to attach to the car. Make sure you use a nut with a large enough bolt hole for alignment. Could use a washer too if the original tab ear was thin to allow for cover trim. Then use the money saved to buy flowers for someone you love?
7:00 someone probably already said it but the chrome pen light won’t give the same beam as the other one. You’ll probably notice it at night and when doing alignment.
22:47 What you can do is flip and swap the left and right sides. This way it will be the right angle and the damage part will be on the back but on the left side of the car.
For the side trims, just swap it with the one on the other side, then the dent is at the back on the passenger side.
This
was thinking exactly the same
Came down to the comments planning to say just this on the off chance someone hadn't already done so.
Exactly what I was thinking, then the front dented one would be at the back with the trim angles following the flow of the wheel arch 👍
Wanted to make the same comment, and this was already first comment I see.

The whine can also come from the starter form the engine grinding on it, if it goes bad
Love this series vince youve done incredibly well so far
Why not swap sides drivers for passengers on the lower chrome trim?
7:00 someone probably already said it but the chrome pen light won’t give the same beam as the other one. You’ll probably notice it at night and when doing alignment.
Will the reduced light level pass the MOT as need to be within limits variation.
Loving the videos Vince. Great content and really interesting.
22:47 What you can do is flip and swap the left and right sides. This way it will be the right angle and the damage part will be on the back but on the left side of the car.
