Ruth Zepeda Why? A 3-letter word that I believe defines my life. The word makes me reflect and contemplate things that I have done and will do in the future in my life. The answer to the question reveals my conviction and mission on this earth. But the answers to this 3-letter word is the key to success. Thinking of it has forced me to meditate and analyze what I am doing and how I am doing things. The what and the how is easily answered. What do I do? I work as a Rehabilitative Health Technician. How do I do my job? I help my patients restore their ability to do the activities of daily living after a surgery. Why am I in this situation at this point of my life? My way of life is a result of the decisions I made. The question unearths my vision, conviction and mission in my life. There is always a fork in the road and why will I take a path is based on my answer to the question. I strive to be a role model for my coworkers and hopeful I inspire them to take better of the patients. My passion for my work drives me to go over and beyond what is called for my job. I give it my all. My conviction is guided by the principle that we don’t do to others what we don’t want others to do to me. That is why my strong sense of integrity is prominent in the things I do. I always do the right thing even when there is nobody looking. I help and take care of my patients to best of my ability and give them my professional, loving care. That is my mission to help others when I can. I want to be a high functioning individual and I wan to share my compassion. I am mindful of the uniqueness of every patient to ensure they receive holistic care. However, my vision is to improve my situation in life and be able to face life challenges. I want to share my culture and experience but also assimilate the culture of this country. I want to improve myself and gain more knowledge how to attain this goal. I see myself taking courses to help me achieve this vision. I know life has its ups and downs, joys and sorrows but I will stay strong and remain focused on my mission and vision. Why will guide me and from now on be an important 3-letter word to me. I will always start with “why”.
I understand this is apparently from 2 years ago, so the comment is a bit late, still, a couple of things I need to express: First is the fact that Simon Sinek is absolutely BRILLIANT, genuine, passionate and with every thought, every concept expressed he lets you into his soul, one of humanity at its best. Second, the interviewer is very annoying, although she can apparently relate, she just doesn’t get it, that’s best showed in the fact that she keeps interrupting in the most inopportune moments -I’m sure it’s very frustrating for Simon as it is for us the viewers
Passion and joy are reciprocal to the environment and people (including or maybe especially leadership) to which you apply them. Or maybe symbiotic is a better word. So many corporations just milk their employees for everything they've got while pasting on this facade of the latest, trendy buzz words like Diversity and Inclusion and Empowerment--like the ultimate carrot. Show me any company that doesn't throw in the towel on all its culture the second the shareholders start to squeak about ROI. And we wonder why suicide, depression, and burnout are on the rise.
He's barely containing the passion that starts to look like anger and frustration... I do that, too. It's tough to look at a corporate failure happening and do nothing. Or worse, that nothing you do will make a difference. Corporations that hide behind anonymous employee surveys as if their very anonymity is a benefit to the employees and not a filter for criticism and refuse to listen to the rank and file about options for improvement, as if the fact that they aren't CEOs is proof in itself that they don't know WTF they're talking about. Ego kills more efforts to improve than anything else in the culture, I think.
This woman just don't GET it like he probably wanted her to.. He was getting aggravated. I'm not giving up on her I think she needs to hear more.. Her lightbulb hasn't went off . He does NOT do this for fame Beth... He does this because he really Cares.. He loves it.. It's not about money or fame to him... You HAVE to let that sink in COMPLETELY before his energy will fully meet yours.. You were nervous I'm sure... Going to come back to this woman and see if it ever fully clicked...
Be a student of leadership. But read Simon, Dan Pink, Warren Bennis. Stay away from Jack Welch and anyone else that advocates exploitation as a means of leadership.
Much better to listen about Leadership. Thank you Simon.
