I recently decided to invest in a new Dutch oven for my kitchen. After looking at many options I chose the Staub 7 quart round La Cocotte Dutch oven in the color basil. Here's an unboxing of my new Dutch oven, along with an overview of some of the basic features of the Staub brand. Topics covered include Staub's two color types (Classic and Majolique), self basting condensation points on the underside of the lid, and black interior enamel color.

You have chosen the best size, the most useful size, of a Dutch Oven, in my experience. I have and use 5, Lodge, leCreuset, and knockoffs, and the 7 litre pot is the most used. The 4.5 litre ones do artisan breads, one is a bean pot, two live in my holiday trailer, but the big 7 is the Go To.
Well done! Happy cooking! Staub is the gold standard in dutch ovens.

So helpful. Contemplating Staub but had trouble picking a size. Was going to get the 5.5 but thanks to you I see I need the 7. Graci!

Almost got the basil ended up getting the La Mer (the sea) and it was between 28mm /7qt or 30mm/ 9qt. Glad I went with the 7qt. If big family or such maybe 9qt or larger, But it's nice to have that extra head room anyway. ✌😊🌾

That is a hot looking pot! Great modern style. Love the black interior. I hear Staubs hold in moisture better, and are heavier, than LC. I had a big Cherry LC skillet and the interior was a nightmare to keep clean looking. Definitely going with Staub for next major cookware purchase -- I bake a lot of bread and I'm betting they are awesome for crisping up the crust.

Love Staub! Such great cookware and I've found it more resilient than my Le Creuset... I know you said you got this on sale. Mind if I ask how much? I'm wondering how low it drops but I'm seeing the red 7qt for $189 right now and I'm tempted. My 7qt Le Creuset is 20 years old now and the enamel is crazing so near time to replace unfortunately.

You should contact them to see if they’ll replace it. Their lifetime guarantee is very generous.

Will that lid break of you drop it onto the ground? It looks ceramic. Do they not come in cast iron?
Lovely cocotte. Thanks for the unboxings video. It was exciting to watch. From Zimbabwe.

It is cast iron with an enamel coating. I imagine the enamel would certainly chip or break if dropped.

@@IZD4666 that's why I prefer pure cast iron. I wonder if this can go into the oven without damaging all that anamel.

    Hay! Dutch person here :)
The one who watches the videos about cats, was always at your live streams and loves korean food XD
Yes these kind of pots are used in the Netherlands. To be honest, I have never seen grandmothers with the fancy brand. Just a heavy pot... How I remember it being used: meatballs. Fatty, jucy meatalls my grandma makes xD
And ofcourse snert (peasoup, but then better...) or hachee (meat and onions).
    Basicly winter meals :)
Always stored on the stovetop :)

From the way she lifted the 9qz. size from the box it's definitely not as heavy as the original Staub cast iron cocottes. But it still has some weight to it.
