Xianlin Ji was a Chinese Indologist, linguist, paleographer, historian and writer who has been honored by the governments of both India and China. Ji was proficient in many languages including Chinese, Sanskrit, Arabic, English, German, French, Russian, Pali and Tocharian, and translated many works.
Ji maintained that "Cultural exchange is the main drive for humankind's progress. Only by learning from each other's strong points to make up for shortcomings can people constantly progress, the ultimate target of which is to achieve a kind of Great Harmony.”
Ji was also highly regarded for his moral values, character, and personality.
Xianlin Ji was born in Shandong in 1911. He passed away on July 11 in 2009.
季羡林是中国著名的印度学家、语言学家、古文字学家、历史学家和作家。吉精通汉语、梵语、阿拉伯语、英语、德语、法语、俄语、巴利语、托查里语等多种语言，并翻译了许多作品。他坚持认为“文化交流是人类进步的主要动力。只有互相学习，取长补短，才能不断进步，最终达到一种和谐。”他也因他的道德价值、品格和人格而备受推崇。
季羡林1911年生于山东临清。他于2009年7月11日去世。
