    My kitchen is now being cooked in. 2 Things I would do differently. I might change them sooner rather than later... The backsplash in granite, all the way, not half up to the cabinets as it is now. The separation between te island and the rest of the living space, about 10-15cm shorter.
    But damn, a Star Galaxy granite is gorgeous.

    Watched many of your videos when renovating our kitchen last year! We went with Quartzite Taj Mahal on the surrounding counters and love it! Large veined black and cream granite on the island. Love walking in my kitchen everyday ♥️

    You are one of my favorite design experts. I love your down to earth personality. I love all of the Kitchen 2024 trends. I am wondering about the textured cabinets. They must be difficult to keep clean (dusting?). Might be more work than the beautiful look provides.

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you very much! Definitely, I think a lot must be dust magnets. A bit like open shelving. You need to find that balance of style and practicality that works for you.

    Hi Micheal ! You videos are so helpful and I was so pleased there is a new one as I have exhausted our other ones ! Could you do one on clearence around an island ? I have a conundrum about having a narrow clearance on the width of a kitchen island and haing a standard clearance along the length. Is 700mm on the narrow width too ridiculous ?!

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much! So is it a clearance of 700mm just on one side of the island? What is on that side (after the 700mm)? If it's a patio door and walkway not used very often you could probably get away with 700mm (although not ideal). If it's a wall, could you opt for a peninsula? If it's 'in' the kitchen and other cabinets, I'd say that's too tight.

    thanks for this... I definitely take more stock in your opinions, style and "trends" than any other videos out there. I'm pitching quartzite backsplash with ledge about 10" high and all the way up behind the range. No uppers for sure. My hubs is ALMOST with me! ... do you have thoughts on the 10" high idea? too high? too low? thanks!

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks! Sounds great! I think 10" is good for an extra tall upstand, but I'd worry it might feel a touch low for a ledge, I think somewhere around 15" - 20" is nice. Just gives a bit more breathing space above the countertops. HOWEVER, it really depends on your height and what's most comfortable for you and what feels visually right for the height of the room. Are you having any wall lights/sconces as well? For reference, I'd say this one is closer to 20" - www.blakeslondon.com/nicholson

    • @kathigee
      @kathigee 5 месяцев назад

      @@kitchinsider Thank you so much! so good to have that visual. Our ceiling height is also fairly high in the kitchen, and the wall where I was thinking for the ledge is almost the same as the one showing where the range is. Difference is that we have large windows on either side of the range hood with sconces above the windows... so yes, the ledge will not work. The backsplash will go up to the windows which starts about 10" from the counter and then straight up behind the hood. ... I feel like I can see it in my mind's eye much better now. Appreciate you!

    Like the no upper cabinet look BUT aging people have a hard time bending way down to crawl into lower cabinets. A window over the sink is a must. Love the window backsplash but must have something pretty to look at while doing cleanup. No brick walls or neighbors.

    hey brother good to see you i nearly built my kitchen last year was going for obvs dark blue grey white quartz clean, island etc. ran out of money and built a make shift kitchen out of stainless steel equipment from old cafes i had. huge stainless steel sink massive floor to ceiling stainless racks. loads of unfinished smashes to bits brick pillars and steel rsjs raw. people visit and like this kitchen is incred so cool berlin raw semi commercial look. i think i might use the vibe to build my actual kitchen later this year.

      @@kitchinsider yes quite, im struggling with the design trying to transition the industrial in and alongside a normal kitchen. trying to find the right units to compliment etc. i was feeling using more texture and external fittings.
      your videos are fantastic very helpfull. i do wish there were more stainless steel kitchens done right they look incred and are very clean very strong i tend to find its more a chef thing. I cant wait to build my kitchen ive waited a long time. keep up the vids its a great channel my man.

    😊thank you, it's new , nice and practical. Is anybody concerned about the opened kitchen, with smell going everywhere? Or is it a new trend as well having a door to separate the kitchen from the living room?

      In the US they have done it the last 30 years and they start to regret it. Designwise you have to use only one design. It is too loud for homeoffice. Thats why they re-invented the closed butler kitchen, where the work is done. Outside is for show.

    I don't think that I would ever go with shelving for anything infrequently used. Too much needing to wash before use for me.
    As for nothing on the walls, I am afraid that if my kitchen was ever big enough to do that, I would be considering reducing the size of the kitchen and using the space for something else, or elsewhere, as most UK homes are rather mean on space.

      That bit about hiding every kitchen object and appliance behind cabinet doors, so that the kitchen doesn’t look “utilitarian”? Kitchens ARE utilitarian! There’s no reason they can’t also be beautiful, even if daily use things like the coffee maker, fridge, etc. are visible. Simply reducing unnecessary clutter should be enough.
