Finally someone who agrees with me on that. :) There are actually a lot of people commenting the opposite under my videos and I just don't understand why. In my opinion the graphics of those games have aged pretty well. They are still nice to look at.
I know there wasn't much love for Pro Street, but man, it's still an amazing real life concept racing game, it has everything you'd ever want and more, and after modding it a bit it still compares to some AAA games. An amazing game honestly, along with underground 1 and 2.
4:25 that Porsche Carrera made everything easy once you unlocked it. I always loved the sound it had in this game, realistic or not it sounded damn beautiful
I just played through the original NFSU again, after some tinkering to get it running on win10. The graphics look serviceable, but the controller support is super janky. It wouldn't remember how I set up my xbox controller in the obvious way (RT throttle), forcing me to set up again every time I started the game, and the throttle itself behaved bizarrely, where you have to press LT to take the foot off the gas. This game deserves at least a GOG-like treatment to improve compatibility.

I remember playing Underground 1 a ton online. This was the early days of online play on the PS2. Was trying to be competetive on the Drag ladder. Literally every top player used the RX-7, even tho on paper it had weaker stats than some of the other cars. As you progressed in the game, besides the regular engine mods, you unlocked small bonus mods to your car. You could install the mod, or save it for later. These were static stat upgrades. If you switched cars, all your mods would carry over, except the small bonus ones if you already used it. Those would be lost, the game just didnt tell you that, so what you did was complete the entire game in whatever car you wanted, then afterwards you dumped all those bonus mods into an RX-7. It was just flat out faster for drag racing. It was because of how it it moved through the rev range towards perfect shifts. Top 20 was nothing but RX-7's, the other cars just weren't competetive, not even the Skylines which were supposed to be the fastest car in the game, but it just wasn't.
rx7 was too cheat car. Just can't say something about "skill" and "knowledge". Tuned AWD impreza\skyline starts slower than RWD (!) car, wtf? 700+hp on a rwd car, really has a good traction?
@@pipipupu1964 I think the game failed to display that speed correctly, the environment didnt moved that fast. For example on flatout 2 with Flat mobile you feel the speed much more there, ore even in older NFS games.

Kev27RS Absolutely. But you do need to turn on The Crew with the drag spec whips b/c a lot of races are on streets. I'm sure you've played so you know how almost impossible that is to do even with the few settings they have that help. TC2 is coming out soon so we'll see if they keep the dragsters or replace them with speed boats or drones or some crazy I can't wait stuff.
First UG will always hold a special place in my heart, I bought my first car a Skyline R34 in 2002 and got it recoated to mocha gold just like Eddie's car. Couldn't afford to wrap it tho unfortunately. Had to sell it in 08 during GFC. I still think about that car :(

Need for speed underground had the best drag races.Going out in straight line,switching lanes to avoid obvious crashes,switching to rear camera to block your opponens,being careful not to blow off your engine if you had 5 gears,swifting gears with nitrous,cars can get totaled in a matter of seconds +good details and reflections for 2003,which that means the game aged pretty well considering it was released almost 20 years ago.
Right? It made no sense in the later games where the roads bend. What was the point of calling these races drag if racers also have to worry about drifting and control?
Most people didn't realize that the best way to play drag racing in Underground 2 was not like Dominic Toretto said in Fast & Furious. Instead of saving your spray till the end use it in the beginning for acceleration. The fastest car I remember in the game was the 240SX which was hands down the fastest car in the game. Most people didn't realize that you use you're nitrous off the line and through your first few shifts. It has very short gears so it's hard to get perfect shifts but if you do nothing can touch it. I do however remember playing with the gearing a little bit to get it just right.
That was one thing i admired about the early need for speed unground games. How they made it look like the ground was shaking as you drove. Like ya really felt the torque and the vibrations of the car. I'd def buy those 2 games again if they polished them for new gen. Games were so good for their time. Racing games today miss so many of those qualities.
Still love NFS Underground and Most Wanted. Although the BMW M3 GTR was the coveted prize, the Porsche Carrera GT had a special place for me. Its speed, its rev and style is something you can't forget.
Thanks for making such a cool video! I really loved the Pagani Zonda F I had in Prostreet, it had a good 1200 BHP and got quarter miles just under 7 seconds. I think my best ever quarter mile time in that thing was like 6.94. I'd love it if lots of games in the future have drag races, because some of the stuff in this video is real nice to play.

The drag races from Pro Street are absolute perfection. There is no game that has better drag racing out there. Many games after tried to copy the format but failed so miserably.
demonized No, I don't think so, they were pretty good in the early years, then they found the right exact spot (ProStreet) and then the Crew fucked up, Forza just added it because "oh, we are street racing now so I guess we need that" and NFS2015 just didn't worry about it so what you saw there was a patch, they updated the game to have drag racing
Forza horizon 3 needed the drag races. As much as I love the first 2 forza horizon games, rival outruns, sprints and circuits aren't really diverse. Yeah, forza horizon 1 and 2 pulled it off, but still, drag races were a nice addition in 3.

Everyone is saying that NFS Underground was the best bt personal i think it's Prostreet, it made me actually feel i was at like a race event everything around you is so realistic the only bad part about the game it's drifting
+A Nice Giraffe Pro Street was amazing and innovative for NFS but Underground is my personal favorite, all the customs you could make to your car and make it appear on Magazines and DVS covers was kinda impressive for it.
Underground 1 and 2 plus MW made drag racing actually different which is what made them so good. Pro Street introduced a cool aspect as well and did a good job creating a sense of speed.
JDM, they wanted to make it sim-like, but it didn't play like Gran Turismo. It played a bit more like Asetto Corsa but with more grip. The cars feel really weird in that game without a wheel.

Try a drag race with a Supra on ProStreet. That shit goes flying at 400 kmh. Its so broken. You can even do 400 m wheelie with it if you tune it good.

Need for speed underground had the best drag races.Going out in straight line,switching lanes to avoid obvious crashes,switching to rear camera to block your opponens,being careful not to blow off your engine if you had 5 gears,swifting gears with nitrous,cars can get totaled in a matter of seconds +good details and reflections for 2003,which that means the game aged pretty well considering it was released almost 20 years ago.
10/10 game for me, that and most wanted were my favorite ones
Right? It made no sense in the later games where the roads bend. What was the point of calling these races drag if racers also have to worry about drifting and control?

Most people didn't realize that the best way to play drag racing in Underground 2 was not like Dominic Toretto said in Fast & Furious. Instead of saving your spray till the end use it in the beginning for acceleration. The fastest car I remember in the game was the 240SX which was hands down the fastest car in the game. Most people didn't realize that you use you're nitrous off the line and through your first few shifts. It has very short gears so it's hard to get perfect shifts but if you do nothing can touch it. I do however remember playing with the gearing a little bit to get it just right.

That was one thing i admired about the early need for speed unground games. How they made it look like the ground was shaking as you drove. Like ya really felt the torque and the vibrations of the car. I'd def buy those 2 games again if they polished them for new gen. Games were so good for their time. Racing games today miss so many of those qualities.
Still love NFS Underground and Most Wanted. Although the BMW M3 GTR was the coveted prize, the Porsche Carrera GT had a special place for me. Its speed, its rev and style is something you can't forget.

Thanks for making such a cool video! I really loved the Pagani Zonda F I had in Prostreet, it had a good 1200 BHP and got quarter miles just under 7 seconds. I think my best ever quarter mile time in that thing was like 6.94. I'd love it if lots of games in the future have drag races, because some of the stuff in this video is real nice to play.

demonized No, I don't think so, they were pretty good in the early years, then they found the right exact spot (ProStreet) and then the Crew fucked up, Forza just added it because "oh, we are street racing now so I guess we need that" and NFS2015 just didn't worry about it so what you saw there was a patch, they updated the game to have drag racing
Forza horizon 3 needed the drag races. As much as I love the first 2 forza horizon games, rival outruns, sprints and circuits aren't really diverse. Yeah, forza horizon 1 and 2 pulled it off, but still, drag races were a nice addition in 3.
it's like that with the games in general unfortunately, not just certain game modes! before posting this comment, i came from playing NFS payback and i only raged at how bad it was, thinking "they just don't make them like they used to" and remembering how they already had good physics and logic in the previous games and they threw it all away! i came to youtube and this video was in my recommended section, clicked only to confirm what i was thinking while playing payback. why would they throw away good mechanics for that disgusting gameplay the last 2 NFS games and those who started using elements from the burnout series had? it's retarded beyond my comprehension! now it's just ramming, crashing, twitchy controls, overpowered hypercars are unbeatable and more! i just don't get how gaming could fall this low when they're suposed to IMPROVE not make it worse with every new title!

+A Nice Giraffe Pro Street was amazing and innovative for NFS but Underground is my personal favorite, all the customs you could make to your car and make it appear on Magazines and DVS covers was kinda impressive for it.

Underground 1 and 2 plus MW made drag racing actually different which is what made them so good. Pro Street introduced a cool aspect as well and did a good job creating a sense of speed.

JDM, they wanted to make it sim-like, but it didn't play like Gran Turismo. It played a bit more like Asetto Corsa but with more grip. The cars feel really weird in that game without a wheel.
