“I’m not ashamed of my past. What I did in the past is what I did in the past, I’m not gonna try to erase it or hide it. I’ll have to deal with it.” Awesome, I like this attitude very much! Jia you!
This is kind of your life motto. Be open and honestly about yourself the good, the bad, and the ugly. Especially now fast forward to 2021 that's the very thing the CCP doesn't do which you are critical of them for it. I'm sure you now have a new deeper appreciation for the concerns your ex-wife had, and maybe because other than you everyone she had to encounter were PRC Chinese it made her situation all the more worst as you said in another video of you slapping pro CCP foreign RUclipsrs, you said "you need to know understand the Chinese language to understand China's problems." By the way, I know nothing about your ex-wife. Haven't seen any of those videos, just the topic of this post, "What happened to beer grill?" Catches the eye. And ya, happy you, your current wife and daughter were able to safely get out of China before Hong Kong fell. God bless the Hong Kong people and the Chinese people dispite their shit hole government who is too afraid to deal with their current and past mistakes. Not a Trump fan but I think the term describes China's current government leadership policy. Trump did get one thing right, and that was to vouch for Taiwan and stand up to China.
One of the early things that really bugged me about my own mom is that after her first divorce, she tossed all the old photo albums, as she wanted to get rid of everything that reminded her of her mistakes and things she didn't want to think about. The big problem for me personally is that those albums included all the pictures of me when I was a baby and small child, so the only pix if have of that time are from copies I made from photos that my grandparents had, from the time that mom used to send copies to relatives. I learned from mom's mistake, so I kept all the photos and everything from the first wedding and marriage, as it is part of who I am. Thus, I have especial respect for Winston, as it is all public, not just archived in a box in a closet somewhere. Cheers, dude!
Well said about dealing with the past. Not being ashamed and dealing with it. You can't delete perceived mistakes or wobbles in life. You just learn, put it down to experience and move on.
Happy to know you both are doing well. I loved Beer girl, and thought you two were made for each other. I was sad and disappointed to hear of your divorce. But, such is life. I have had my share of bad relationships. We just move on. Your fiancee is very Beautiful also. My best wishes for you both.
+Bumble Bee Beautifully expressed. Thank you. Both of them were soo busy at that time. It was not easy for both of them to consider the consequences of starting a new life in a for her a new environment. But it is really normal to suffer from a culture shock. This is such a very common problem for a lot of couples.
I remember talking about this with you before and, yep, I totally agree...if your going to share yourself on RUclips; you might as well share all of you. Its hard to know where to draw the line. I've met your fiance and she seems like a very cool lady, and as course as your friend; I've got your back and totally support you. Good video!

You are the most upfront, honest person vlogger Ive ever seen dude. I respect you so much for not trying to erase your past now that youve started to 'make it' so to speak on youtube and have a following. It takes effort to be legitmate, and I think sacrificing the easy path well trod for the long road just makes you that much more likeable to your fans. Thanks dude for not being afraid to be you.

I was married to a Japanese girl that wanted 85% control. It wasn't worth it. I divorced her. Now she has changed and is no longer attempting control on me, it's back to how it was before her control issues, and still today, we are living together. I am grateful that she changed back. Having seen pretty much all of your videos, I knew some of the reasons for your break-up with Beer-Girl, but I really admire the frank and open way you shared your story in this video. It's great that your break-up could be amicable, without all the recriminations and hostility that many couples go through. Divorce in China. You guy should do a video on that (the process, how long it takes, what the basic rights are, how common it is in China/Hong Kong, etc). When do you think you can get to that?
I think it's awesome that you share your life with us. Ive watched your videos since 2012 and it's very interesting to see a person's life change as I do as well. I don't think you should see your past with mistakes, rather phases in life. Yes you may have done something wich wasn't optimal but yet you were very happy during that period. I think it's really important and helpful when people share their personal lives honestly in a public forum. The rest of us get the benefit of learning about things and experiences we wouldn't have otherwise, and it helps us to learn about how wide human experience is, and more importantly how similar we are. Thanks for your openness. Kind wishes.
Yes, I haven't been hip to these Chinese videos. I knew nothing about your past at all. I fell on this video and the title interested me. Now, after having watched this entire video, your integrity, openness and perspective on your life is admirable and a good influence. Thank you.
I wonder how Beer Girl is doing now?.. I can't blame her for eventually wanting to escape mainland China, back to HK. Unfortunately for HK, Xitler came knocking and fucked everything up. 😞
I have similar past as yours. I seldom mentioned it because I was ashamed of it. I got married too young and didn't know each other very well when we got married. Finally, I found we are completely different kind of persons and quite different outlook for life. He constantly cheated on me and has mistress outside. My heart was full of mistrust on him. 5 years ago, we got divorced. Difference is , we had a son 7 years old at that time.
I married a doctor (and yes, I was a nurse) because I loved him. People told me it was a big mistake because doctors cheat in their marriages. That was about forty years ago and we, with our two sons) have a very happy life. BTW, you are so much like Son #2 that it feels like I'm listening to him (he's in Japan). You are beyond awesome so STAY THAT WAY!
To quote the great capt. Jean Luc Picard: "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life." And right after "losing" you won again big time. Stay awesome, Winston :)
I think what happens is that people find your channel and then start watching from the oldest videos and work their way to the newest. It's what I did when I started watching this channel a few years ago.
friends have asked me the same thing about photos of my trips with my ex in them on facebook. im not going to erase my entire past just because things are different now.
Strong video! People appreciate you making all these video’s and sharing interesting things. Just keep it real like you do: struggles and joy, it all comes a long. Don’t fake it, don’t hide it. It is not necessary. Everyone makes decisions which they wish they had taken differently. That’s life. If you’re able to look back on them honestly you will truly grow in life!
Dude, thanks for opening your heart, this will for sure help anyone going through a similar situation. Tough decisions are tough, no matter who you are.
It's been a year since I checked out winston's videos, then I saw the America trip video, my first thought was OMG, beer girl got so much prettier...that's when I realized it wasn't her anymore. Sasha is so cute, and much more open in front of the camera. Speaking of camera, the fps is amazing.
I'm an upcoming China vlogger too, and iv been asking myself wether to show people everything about my life here or just bits and pieces. One thing iv learnt is once u start putting your life online for everyone to see, they want to see EVERYTHING and they want to know Everything. So thanks for this, it was really helpful.
Thank you for your candid honesty and willingness to share this. I hope that both you and her have moved on to what is best for each of you. Thank you for your videos.
This channel and your journey has been so fascinating to watch. I really dig your what you have done. I could never just go live in another country like that, I find that extremely brave and so cool. I have enjoyed your deep explanations of Chinese culture.
Your videos are awesome--there are always two parts that make them fascinating: what you teach us about, and the scenery in the background. I loved living in China and I feel like I am back there again as I see the sights and hear the sounds of daily life in China as it appears in the videos. Love it!
I will never understand all the hatred and suspicion I get from my present wife (Chinese) about any picture, video, or even knick knacks that I have that my ex-wife may have bought me. She throws away and pictures with my ex-wife in them and gives me all kinds of jealous flack if I put up any resistance to it. I'm sorry but I was with my ex-wife for 7 years and it was a big part of my life. Not all of which was terrible. But why should I have to erase a huge chunk of my life because my wife thinks I am secretly pining for my ex? Is this a cultural thing, or just something specific to my girl?
Culture and age. My first husband's family, Chinese and British, ruined our marriage. Multiple examples I won't go in to. My second marriage was more practical, we used his baking ex's baking skill to make a wedding cake. Saved money, got the chocolate cake I wanted instead of the crap white cake.
Your video always attractive for me. Before the past week, i watched the youtube reccommended video on the front page. Now i spend 2 hours watching your video since in turn on my laptop.
Your an idiot. What are you a SJW? Your pretentious name and pic. Beer girl is nothing to get upset about and I am sure she would not refer to herself as "Beer Girl" if she minded. What the fuck is up with douche bags like you inventing "trigger" issues?
gunnervine Shut the fuck up. Are you now the comment hero, it is bad enough your a hypocrite with your over the top "autism"comment. Just a hint, there are beautiful children that suffer from it and they don't need a slim ball like you trying using it as an insult. Those child are worth a hell of a lot more than your ignorant life!
Was that her job? I know there are girls that really have that job, serving beers to customers, so it's not derogatory to call them that. Not sure if Winston's ex had that job or that's just her nickname.
It takes sheer guts to talk about it, calm and cool at the same time. I'm glad both of you took time to resolve it as much as possible before heading to the next step. No matter what happens, both of you have done a good thing to end it without further complications.
I like the way Serpentza is telling about his private life and his divorce. Also his openess about his marriage is sympathetic and his story is regonizable. Already it was clear to me in his wedding video in the way she was looking at him ,that she didn't love him and maybe viceversa. On the other hand you don't call your girlfriend or wife all the time "beergirl". It's sounds quiet insulting. Probably she did agree with her nickname.....
I've heard some similar stories from expats living in Japan. The way it typically goes is the couple moves to Japan for work related purposes, but the wife isn't very happy living there and can't recover from the culture shock, so she leaves. This is actually a pretty common problem. It's definitely something people need to be aware of if they're married and contemplated moving to another country for whatever reason.
Big Respect for you Man!! It's encouraging to see somebody so openly sharing their own experience and perspective. Props to you and your thick skin, though hopefully one day you won't require thick skin, and ill comments will simply phase through with no effect at all ;)
You won't because it would be politically and socially centered, partially explaining the inequalities in China, and he can't have any content which views China in any negative way whatsoever.
philonetic Well, sometimes he's quite negative about China... But it's a one-sided story about his breaking up with Beer-girl. What would she say, I wonder... But, then again, I think he can't have any content which views HIMSELF in any negative way whatsoever;-)
What a unique guy you are for making your life so public I feel I allmost know you and we have never even met I like an appreciate your honorable, honest and straight forward ways its a noble way to live. Back atya stay awsome!
Do you date and get to know each other before jumping into marriage? Ideally you could live together for a bit (crash at her place or vice versa) to learn each other's habits and ticks before getting married as well.
LOL xD Crashing at someone's place will not prepare you for living with them, let alone the situation of one of you relocating to a different "country"/way of life (Hong Kong vs mainland China). While it is good advice that you give, you gotta go a lot further, I think ;)
boycot gugle I agree that crashing does not give you the full picture, but it's better than nothing. You get a glimpse of how they live (style, cleanliness, etc.) and see them "at their worst" first thing in the morning.
What you did in the past is what made you who you are today. I really enjoy your videos. I am a new subscriber in the last few days after coming across ADV China videos and loving the style of biking while talking. The only video freaked me out was you and Cmilk taste testing coke and Pepsi whilst riding along. I was convinced one of you would end up flat on the bones of your arse.
So what?China is neither heaven nor Hell,America is heaven and hell.China gives him everything, all the good bad, always come and can not dodge. But, maybe this is life.
Yeah. No Hong Kong girl would put up with a tasteless stupid name like that given by some guy who can't cut it in Hong Kong and has to move to a 3rd world place with constant daily human rights violation to boot! How stupid ....! And who the hell picks up a Bar girl in Hong Kong and marries her immediately....then expects her to move to god awful communist china?
I think i've got the reason winston doesn't mind seeing his old videos occasionally, if it were to pop up at all. and the answers probably obvious to all of you who've thought some about it - you're looking at a guy who has character and who tries to live his life in the moment, and doesn't worry about regretting things now adays because they happened then, cause it's just pointless and that'd be crazy to stress over. Most people do end up regretting things to some extent though.... And that him made him who he is now in a way, and he is happy with where he is, who he is, and those who're in his life. he's a good person. and damn if it's not hard to be living in the moment and maintaining your morals..what a standout guy man;.
Things have changed alot. China was a little different when he moved there because he was uninitiated, Hong kong was still free'sh so you could go there to decompress, not anymore though.
Respect and kudos to you Winston. You're with a wonderful woman now who appreciates what you do and you both love each other. May the two of you have a long and blessed marriage. Stay awesome, my friend.
This is so confusing, I only discovered this channel on the back of ADV China about 2 months ago and this video only just popped into my page, I reckon I’ll have to go back to the subscribed channel and start from the beginning. Nah, can’t be bothered!
It's sad that they changed so much. Back then the channel was really genuine about life in China. Now it's really more like a show. Since they're not living in China anymore there is no other chance than making those political videos against China. Their audience changed massively as well.
@@ralfzacherl9942 times change. Maybe if the CCP weren't destroying China and scaring away anyone whose not Chinese, their videos would still be about living in China.
It's nice to hear your perspective on this. Especially so, because you and I share the same notion. People ask me, or are even upset that I leave old photos on something like Facebook. I always give them the same answer: I'm not ashamed of my past.
Glad to hear all is well, great videos mate keep em coming. They've help me a lot I'm actually looking to move to Guangzhou this year and with your videos I have an idea of what to expect. Cheers
Big city girls hu.. I've had the same experience. Not generalizing, but in my experience girls born and raised, and having stuck their whole life to the big and wealthy metropolises of the world, aren't as flexible ( or adventurous ) as they think they are. They dislike new environments rather quickly and the complaining never ends. I'm guessing they're too spoiled by their oversatiated life at home.
I agree. Born and raised metropolitan people often believe they are on top of the world and "worldly". But my experience is that they are often very inflexible and do not easily adapt to environments that do not provide the conveniences of the big cities.
I'm watching your channel in 2020. After several videos it bring my attention the title of this old video, so now I heard about your first marriage. I have to say that I wish the best to Beer Girl (very funny and great nickname) and your new family. I'm sure you all will have a long life full of happiness and awesome experiences!
Boss!!! i'm sure you could draw some life experience from Beer girl... personally i'd like to say that your current girlfriend looks like a real sweetheart! I'm glad you were able to overcome the situation on TOP!!
Man love and mad props to you for being honest ! I'd buy you a beer but I guess you are over it... You awesome and everyone should be like you... Attitude wise toward life.
I like that your channel is big enough to produce quality content, but small enough that you reply to lots of comments.

I've made mistakes in my life but marriage is not one of them. I've always valued my freedom.
后来你怎么克服那些困难的?
Ones I found this channel I was continuosly watching for three days like tv series.
Hugs. You have learned so much about yourself and sometimes you only can after making decisions that weren't right at the time. You're only human.
friends have asked me the same thing about photos of my trips with my ex in them on facebook. im not going to erase my entire past just because things are different now.
I don't cause I'm proud I hit that
Chris Hind So publicize all of your baggage and dirty laundry for everybody to see on the internet. Cool
U can make those photos private, I don't like seeing photos of my partner with her ex.
Deleting photos with your ex is not earising your past you dumbass
Strong video! People appreciate you making all these video’s and sharing interesting things. Just keep it real like you do: struggles and joy, it all comes a long. Don’t fake it, don’t hide it. It is not necessary. Everyone makes decisions which they wish they had taken differently. That’s life. If you’re able to look back on them honestly you will truly grow in life!
you upgraded big time
+Gin Vien thanks, yeah I agree
+serpentza haha, that's epic. Good luck to you both.
*LOL* I don't think BeerGirl would appreciate that comment! Especially not with serpentza saying "yeah I agree"!! *LOLOLOLOL*
Gin Vien that's rude

So thanks for this, it was really helpful.
i had to give you a like and a sub when you talked about why you wont remove your beer girl videos
amen to that. a true vlogger for the people by the people
Same.
Beer girl should have a say too...I assume she didn't give a shit
Thank you for your candid honesty and willingness to share this. I hope that both you and her have moved on to what is best for each of you. Thank you for your videos.
Turns Out Beer Girl Was Right!!! You Also Have Left Mainland China!!! LOL!!!
Except that mainland China is taking over Hong Kong, so she is beong sucked back into the mainland in a way, ans Winston is not. Strange times.
Calling an ex wife " Beer girl " is just condescending and immature.
@@adamkarim8855 True!!!

This channel and your journey has been so fascinating to watch. I really dig your what you have done. I could never just go live in another country like that, I find that extremely brave and so cool. I have enjoyed your deep explanations of Chinese culture.
I can't stop watching his vids I've been watching for about 3 hours now!!
Your videos are awesome--there are always two parts that make them fascinating: what you teach us about, and the scenery in the background. I loved living in China and I feel like I am back there again as I see the sights and hear the sounds of daily life in China as it appears in the videos. Love it!
That intro was sweet ;-) Great fading of the music
+Ruben Bollen thanks man, glad it's better than that last one ;)
+serpentza still needs a bit improvement, much much better but
It's good you've finally published such a video. No more questions, no more speculations. Your honesty is well respected.
+jeff61177 cultural, they're all like that, mainly because Chinese men are incredibly unfaithful not just now but historically too
Culture and age. My first husband's family, Chinese and British, ruined our marriage. Multiple examples I won't go in to.
My second marriage was more practical, we used his baking ex's baking skill to make a wedding cake. Saved money, got the chocolate cake I wanted instead of the crap white cake.
Cultural my wife act the same way. God bless you.
WInston,..I am very sad for your loss, You are a Great Guy and I wish you the best ALWAYS!!!! You Rock Brother!!!
Your video always attractive for me. Before the past week, i watched the youtube reccommended video on the front page. Now i spend 2 hours watching your video since in turn on my laptop.
Thanks for sharing this with us. You're very sensible and have met the right girl for you now.
Being called "Beer Girl" probably didn't help things any.
TheSeer101 you need some serious help man, her a life!
Was that her job? I know there are girls that really have that job, serving beers to customers, so it's not derogatory to call them that. Not sure if Winston's ex had that job or that's just her nickname.
he was being sarcastic you morons
It takes sheer guts to talk about it, calm and cool at the same time. I'm glad both of you took time to resolve it as much as possible before heading to the next step. No matter what happens, both of you have done a good thing to end it without further complications.
I bet Beer Girl still watches your videos!
You can tell he is much happier now and thats good for him. Keep it up man, follow your heart.
loved how the video starts at a low class neighborhood and ends at a high class neighborhood. 🙂
Deffenerst an allegory on his relationships through the years, perhaps? Nu waifu is 10/10 m8.
What? All class are best class!
Deffenerst lol
I love this guy , at 6:10 speaks from the heart and is also 100% right ! Dont take the videos down , I need time off work to watch them ! 👍🏻🤗👍😎😎😎
Your new bird is def an upgrade from beerchick
You have gotten a lot better at talking and making videos,Much appreciated
I like the way Serpentza is telling about his private life and his divorce. Also his openess about his marriage is sympathetic and his story is regonizable. Already it was clear to me in his wedding video in the way she was looking at him ,that she didn't love him and maybe viceversa. On the other hand you don't call your girlfriend or wife all the time "beergirl". It's sounds quiet insulting. Probably she did agree with her nickname.....
Ben Legebeke maybe the "beer" was her problem not the nickname?
LabRat6619 Yeah, that's a good one......hahah, by the way my girlfriend is Chinese too
I like how honest and up front with who you are. And if your new wife understands all this she is definitely a keeper.
Props to you and your thick skin, though hopefully one day you won't require thick skin, and ill comments will simply phase through with no effect at all ;)
Now I want to hear her side of the story too.
Jennifer Leung Good call haha.
philonetic thank you
But it is neither of those things.
PongoXBongo people get married very early in china, its a part of the culture to get married within 6 months of dating I've heard.
Hi Winston, you provide the most detailed, honest and unvarnished truth about your experiences. Thank you very much for all you do. Best wishes
No mistakes Winston. besides, your current fiancée is way better.
What happened to bear girl?
LetoZeth we shaved her. Much better.
enough to be a girl.
you certainly live up to your name
I have a ton of respect for you. It seems rare to find people who have such strong principles. Good on you!
I'd love to hear Beer Girl's side of the story.
I think it was a matter of getting sick of one, and trading in for the next. W
Thanks for keeping them up man, your videos were so helpful for me while I was over there, best of luck
Actual explanation is in the 2:20 - 5:30 segment.
I respect this gentleman so much..what a life story! Thanks for sharing your life story. This story is certainly not ordinary!
I think instead of staying awesome, I'll just stay the hell out of China.

So what?China is neither heaven nor Hell,America is heaven and hell.China gives him everything, all the good bad, always come and can not dodge. But, maybe this is life.
Love your shows. as someone who just got back from China and missing it I like watching all the things I miss.
If your with a girl and you find the nick name beer girl is appropriate for her that should be a big red flag for future issues
She was working as a beer promoter when they met, hence he called her Beer Girl. I don’t think her real name was ever mentioned.
Beer girl good name for her
I can't blame her what person in there right mind would live in china?
Things have changed alot. China was a little different when he moved there because he was uninitiated, Hong kong was still free'sh so you could go there to decompress, not anymore though.
And hong kong is so much better today
In "there" right mind? Speak better English, you little twat.
@@adamkarim8855 oh look, a wild reddit appeared.

Winston looks like Edward Burns in this video, just noticed the resemblance.
It's nice to hear your perspective on this. Especially so, because you and I share the same notion. People ask me, or are even upset that I leave old photos on something like Facebook. I always give them the same answer: I'm not ashamed of my past.
As long as your wife's okay. But I'm surprised your current wife is okay with the past wedding video... wow huge respect for your wife!
We appreciate this from you . That means you are feeling real life .
The Cat girl is way better in my opinion
I'm watching your channel in 2020. After several videos it bring my attention the title of this old video, so now I heard about your first marriage. I have to say that I wish the best to Beer Girl (very funny and great nickname) and your new family.
I'm sure you all will have a long life full of happiness and awesome experiences!
Maybe you didn't try hard enough. Marriage is hard work!!!!!
