  • The National Council Substance Use Interest Group takes a fresh look at youth substance use behaviors and examines the roles that peer influence, personal empowerment and mental health play in shaping the trajectories of young lives. Rooted in the science of the uniquely vulnerable developing brain, and analogous to other health standards, the Institute for Behavior and Health (IBH) is reframing the goal of prevention.
Directly informed by nationally representative data, this initiative focuses on empowering youth and amplifying their voices as they prioritize their mental health. Alexandra Plante and Mark Fontaine welcome Dr. Caroline DuPont, Corinne Shea and Nancy Pasquale of IBH’s prevention initiative, who will share research and resources for behavioral health providers across the continuum of care to actively incorporate health-focused prevention messages in their practice.

Thank you for sharing, I am part of a community outreach program under my university (NWU, South Africa) and one of the key focus of the project is sustainable, youth empowerment towards increased awareness.
