Hello everyone,
In this video I will show you how you can make a simple on off timer circuit easily at home using ic 555
Components required....
1. IC 555....
2. 1N4007 DIODE*3....
3. 330UF CAPACITOR,25V....
4. 100K PRESET*2
5. 1K RESISTOR*2....
6. BC 547 TRANSISTOR....
7. 12V RELAY...
8. 9V OR 12V POWER SUPPLY....
10. 0.1UF CAPACITOR....
11. 8 PIN IC BASE(OPTIONAL)

Need to have some extra capacitors or components.
Coz according to your diagram I think it will only work for 1 cycle on off and just finish. No further consecutive cycles.

By increasing the capacitor value can I get more delay
You must connect the pin 7 of Ne555, otherwise it Will not work. Pin 7 to both D1 and D2 and resistor 1 (of 1k). Thanks for the circuit.

Great circuit. And yes, it needs pin 7. Works great for small periods of time. But what about a 24 hr period? The capacitor and potentiometers become too big! Thanks.

You have to then change the values of capacitor and resistor if you want for 1 - 2 hour

This circuit works properly, but when you replace presets or pots with resistor, either delay will suffer or on time. One more thing i have observed, initially whatever time you set using resistor suppose you are taking on time as 1 min. So, initially in first cycle of on and off you will get the on time you set ie 1 min, but after that it will be 25 sec or 28. In this no delay time is affected, its coming constant. If any body can explain this will be helpfull. My guess is it has to do something with capacitor and diodes.
You need to use leg no. 7 ... without it the circuit WILL NOT repeat it self

Good day. Im from Philippines. I would like to ask for guide for my project which is similar to this one but ON and OFF will be triggered by at water flow sensor. Im going to build an AUtO ON/OFF for my 220v UV light water sterilizer. Scenario is when the faucet is open it will automatically turns ON the ballast for the UV light and when the faucet is OFF it should delay 3 to 5 minutes for the ballast/UV light to turn OFF. Dear sir. The circuit is fine but not working properly. It works first on after off. I want that first it should be off for delay determine by the cap plus registance and it should start be started for second cycle. Is it possible that this circuit may work only on timer and not off timer. Like this it should work as delayed off timer and it should not work for its 2 cycle. In other work this circuit should work only for one cycle that is it should work either for on or off cycle. Readers have commented that pin no 7 should be connected to pin no 2 and 6 or to diode 4007. Please clearify their remarks.

maybe you can change both variable resistors (1M) and capacitor 1 (1000 uF instead of 330) or so, you must try.

The circuit should be corrected by adding 555 timer pin no 7 with the junction of two diode and 1k resistor for turning on the circuit automatically.
