The Shout Factory blus were a must have for me, but I am still keeping the Time Life dvd collector set. That was a holy grail when the series finally came out on disc for the first time (and yes, WAY better menus than the Shout blus :P )
Favorite episodes: Price of Liberty, All 4 Death Probe episodes, All 5 Bigfoot episodes( 1 BW crossover), Kill Oscar Trilogy (2 BW crossovers), Date with Danger 2 parts, Lost Island 2hr, Day of the Robot, Return of the Robot Maker. What are your favorites?
I always loved this show & its counterpart “Bionic Woman” while growing up and later on “Fall Guy”. It turns out that after I started to learn different things and attending fan conventions that there was a more personal aspect to it as Lee Majors is from my home state of Kentucky. I hope to find releases BW & FG.
I always love your reviews of shows I love. SMDM was a great show. I'm glad you lowered your rating for the German release. No matter what the quality, cut episodes are unacceptable. They did look better than the DVD release, but they were cut. Thankfully Shout Factory released it the correct way, uncut. And the quality is excellent.

The Virginian is my favorite western TV series of all time & is so unique how it had an average runtime of 75 minutes per episode, so they were just like mini movies each episode. Also you really got to know each character sooo much better because of the story lengths too. Have you already seen a lot of the Virginian on the old DVD sets?

Hopefully I’ll receive them both not too long after your upcoming review on this series. I live in Australia and it can take around 4 weeks or more for international orders to arrive. I still wish I understood Turbine's logic with editing the episodes of the six million dollar man the way they did... It was unbelievable I couldn't believe some of the things they cut out....Like the seven million dollar man episode...they cut mid-bionic action...the part where Barney was attacking those men and Steve jumps off the pole to go stop him...Bam... before it was even near being over... they cut to the next scene...
Love your reviews. Love The Six Million Dollar Man. Had the figures when i was a kid. Had the collectable cards. Love Steve Austin. I always compare him to Superman cause he's so selfless when he helps people. You don't get these kind of characters written for tv and films nowadays. They did crossovers waaay before it was cool. Nowadays it's overdone. Hope you and yours are healthy always. Love your channel !
Great review. Sounds like Shout did take the contents from Universal's DVD box set and transferred them to blu-ray. The disc colors and the artwork on the season cases are the same as my DVD set. The only thing I'm disappointed in is the blu-ray menus. On my DVDs the menus play TSMDM Theme and are interactive showing Steve using his bionics from scenes from the series, and the printing for each episode & special features are very easy to read. If I do upgrade, I still may keep my DVD set since that did come with booklets for each season which I liked. I am sorry to hear the Shout people do get their greasy fingerprints on the discs. I thought they would treat them better for their customers. BTW just curious when cleaned your discs the first time did you just need to use the blue cloths or did you have to use the Zeiss ones too?
Thanks, happy you enjoyed my video it took me much longer than normal to complete & to create this video lol!!! 😁 As far as the cloths, only used the Blue ones when I was cleaning them and all the fingerprints came off just fine. So at least I didn’t have to use they Grey ones to remove the greasy fingerprints lol!!! 🤣 Though I will say, that whoever is eating buffalo wings 🍗 while licking their fingers and packaging these Blu ray sets needs to wash 🧼 their hands & wear some gloves 🧤 when putting these sets together lol!! 😆
I detest region codes, I’m in Australia. I already have two different blu ray players… one for 4K and one for SACD. I don’t really want to buy a third player especially just for one TV show. But I do love The Six Million Dolllar Man.
Can you please explain a bit more about what you mean by “filmed in SD”? I always thought, before the advent of filming in video and then HD video, film was film. And film could then be mastered as HD because it was already a high resolution format. I get what you’re saying about the stock footage these old shows would use. I know with Six Mill and Bionic Woman they would use a lot of stock footage owned by Universal. And it could definitely vary in quality. But was it that they were already filming with video as far back as the 70’s? I always thought that came in around the 80’s but I’m guessing I’m wrong. Thanks.
Fantastic thorough review and thank you for posting this. I've been waiting for this comparison of the two sets! I have both sets and most definitely the Shout Factory set is definitely superior overall! In comparison to the DVD's, these sets blow the DVD sets out of the water, in terms of color and resolution! Sadly, the German sets are edited, but it was the best version of the series, prior to the Shout release. Just happy this series wasn't passed onto Mill Creek for the US release. Their Blu Ray sets are definitely subpar, as seen with the Miami Vice and Magnum PI Blu Ray releases. Any of these Blu Ray sets are highly recommended to all fans of the series, just to have a superior version of the series.
Shout, as great as they are really piss me off with their A locked. By the time I bought a Multiregion player they had discontinued their release (and being the only BD) of the Peter Sellers Pink Panther films, my favourite comedies of all time. I was not going to then spend Hundreds of Pounds on EBay 😡
Region locking is likely a contract stipulation for the license. Sometimes different companies own the license in different regions or the owner wants to license out by region. Still frustrating though; most people don't buy titles outside their region anyways so it's not like region locking has much of an effect.

Mine too! Unfortunately, I only watched the episodes on a black-and-white tv set because we couldn't afford a colour set in Australia.

The S1 opening credits on both sets are way too dark. S1 was much brighter than the succeeding seasons. Something went wrong.
