Life saver! Was experiencing this in my 1990 civic rt4wd wagon. Used your method to test my main relay and worked my way towards my icm after checking cap/rotor . Replaced the icm and it’s running like new with no problems starting. Thank you !
Just wanna say thank you that was just the video I needed to remove my ignitor or icm working on the 91 Honda Civic hatchback my first step to getting the sedan thanks again sir much appreciated 👍 1 of the realest videos and most helpful good job
Concise and to the point, great instructions, very important not to forget the thermal compound "grease" that's what usually fades with time and fries these ICM's. Also this applies to every honda/acura with distributors. A final note is if you plan on keeping the car for a while, or if you're modified for performance you should really lool into a coil on plug setup, Hondata makes a great kit.
Thanks for the video, had 2 issues pop up on our 1993 Accord last week, we ran the car down to nearly E and then it began to run rough, car died and then had intermittent stalling/RPM dropping down to 0 while running/loss of power. Changed the fuel pump, strainer, and filter, still left with intermittent problems, however when it is running it runs perfectly normal. Nice to see your video detailing the issues you experienced with yours, I'm pretty confident it's the ICM that's gone bad on our car.
Thanks for the video! My 1990 Honda Civic Wagon was dying randomly, I got a code 15 using the paperclip & replaced the ICM after watching your video, seems to have taken care of the problem. I'll check out more of your videos should anything go wrong, keep up your great work!
Hey brother, your video led me to find one of the wires, (Primary output control) had come loose from the ICM. After hundreds of dollars spent, you solved my problem! You bet I subscribed!
THANK YOU. I don't know that I've ever comment to one of these videos before .... but I am SO appreciative of your step by step instructions ... I just had to express my Thanks.
my 96 honda was doing same thing i looked all over with diffrent opinions of what yo do . if you wiggle your keys in on position and lights on dash dont do anything-meaning lights coming on and off-then its your icm trust me .i had a bad ignition module to but had already replaced it 2 months earlier.this was the best video out there that showed exactly what my car was doing and i fixed it with a 50 dollar part from auotzone(lifetime warranty).this video saved my car from being sold just cause nobody could figure what was wrong since the broblem was spuratic. so thank you.i fck love u man

Vapor is flamable, not liquid....and just turning the key will work...and the check engine light lighting, or relay clicking, or fuel pump humming will tell you if the relay is working
Great video. Just the right amount of information. Keep up the good work. Where were you when I had to drill out my ignition switch!? I will be replacing my ICU next weekend.
Thank you brother! I was wondering if I should put thermal gel on it on not. Now I know! I got a 98 CRV with close to 200k. Funny thing is, I had a 92 Civic with close to 190k, that had the same issue(no start, only crank), and it was the icm..just like the CRV. I guess they go out around 190k-200k.
ya, i have the same issue,, 190k, trying figure out, i guess the icm problem. now replacing with new one, but not original icm. i will let u know the result soon.. 😊
6 days after replacing the icm, the problem still... and then, i try replace main relay for fuel pump but the problem still.. next i will check the fuel pump, fuel filter and cleaning the iacv.. its long journey to figure out what is the real problem. thats life,, sometimes its not easy, but u will get an experience n value in every process..
Awesome video, I am going to check this out because my car is having the same issue it works sometimes and doesn't most times. Its hard to catch it when it is having the issue but it seems like it is getting worse. So I am going to change this out and see if that resolves the issue thanks for the clear and easy video to follow. :)
Good video. I would not use heatsink compound it is useless and will fail. If all surfaces are smooth and clean it will never get any hotter than it already will . If you feel you must use on both surfaces not just the attaching heatsink otherwise why is other surface any better? You can also buy conductive and non conductive compound that will set and never dry out kind of like silastic
I have done this twice, no need to remove the whole unit, just remove the small icm inside with 4 wires is enough and less work, no marking less intrusive but overall good video
So are you saying that you don’t need to remove the entire distributor? If that’s soo I can save a lot of time with my 90 integra. I’m hoping that it’s just the icm. I don’t hear my fuel pump when Turning the key. But she cranks and don’t start
Hello bro My name is Asad from Pakistan I have Honda civic 1998.with D15B ENGINE.and I have problem of misfire and bucking also in engine . Sometimes it going good I change everything of my car to reduce misfire but stills my car misfire at 1500 rpm or else kindly help me . I put new Delco, tps, connectors , and distributor cap also but nothing work stills misfiring. ..???
I've got a Jdm b20b in a 90 Acura integra(obd0). I replaced my distributor because it kept shocking me and the car wouldnt start at all, just crank. And i finally got it to start for a little bit but it's just like your car in the beginning. Idled a bit rough then died. Then I noticed I started to get a code 15 and the weirdest part is when the car does start it dies when I let go of the clutch(along with it randomly dieing. So I have a fuel pressure gauge and I was getting about 35 to 40 psi, I checked each coil and was getting spark to all of them. Idk what's wrong, I've been thinking about replacing the main relay and maybe replacing my injectors. Have any ideas?
Okay my problem is, i have a 1991 honda accord (cb7) and its starts everything is fine runs good everything, but i have a code 15 i have a new distributor and the i made sure the icm was connected correctly but i still have the same code 15
Nicely done video. Thank you, it's gonna help me alot. I've got a 91 Civic with 136,000 mi on the original ICM but I just had to replace the ignition coil. I'm thinking about also replacing the ICM before I get stuck on the road again. In your experience, about how many miles can you get on the original ICM before it needs to be replaced?
Okay so I figured out why the code 15 returned and I cured that. However now the car is running pretty good but occasionally has trouble starting and then throws a code 4 which is a crank angle position sensor code.I can clear the code and then I seem to be good to go again. Any idea how to fix that?
I have this exact same problem and the car is throwing a code 15 meaning probably a bad igniter. However I replaced the distributor with a brand-new distributor, and after only a few minutes the same problem returned. Any thoughts?
I'm having same problem with my 1998 Honda CR-V when I turn it on its runs good till temp gauge go to middle then it shuts off I have to keep cranking it till finally it starts
They had a recall on the ignition switch I guess it will shut off randomly I took it to the dealership so they can fix my recall thinking it would fix the problem but it still does the same thing
Ive had nothing but bad luck w my 90 CRX. Cat clogged and cracked my head. The mobile mechanic got off w my distributor so i had to buy an aftermarket. I guess the chinese dont use heat sink compound because less than 100 miles and my module fried. When the mechanic replaced it he forgot to put the piece in the cap and later when i took the cap off to check timing my coil was melted. I had to replace cap and coil. Now less than 100 miles from coil and less than 500 on module i dont have spark. Its raining so i will have to cont on it later this week. Ugh. : (
***** New coil went bad after 20 miles. The mechanic stripped out the screws going to the coil. What a bitch to get out. It is a new distributor. Less than 500 miles.

It's not that easy. A gasoline engine needs 3 things to start. Fuel Compression Spark Missing 1 of these and the engine will not start. Just because your fuel pump is running and the engine is getting fuel does not mean the engine will start. You have to check the other 2 items as well.

I have a Honda Accord 1994 lx, work 5 to 10 minutes, after that car is shutdown, and I don't have fire in the distributor, can u help about my problem? I have code 15
I beleive the pump runs for 3 seconds without cranking engine so it was unnecessary and dangerous . I would have placed a rag over it to keep fuel isoalted
my stock crx sohc d16zc has a faint seemingly random miss at idle speed. i cant figure out why. i just did a full tune up yesterday. including plugs, wires, Distributor and rotor. would my o2 sensor cause a miss? or i should say my lack of a o2 sensor. i just have s bolt in my headers temporarily until i pick up a new one. but when i had my original header with o2 sensor it still had that miss.

Hopefully you've got the screws by now, but for anyone needing this info, here are the sizes for a 1991 Civic Hatch, Std/ Base model:
1. ICM mounting screws: M4-0.7x10mm (7mm hex-phillips head).
2. Heat Sink screws: M4-0.7x9mm (round head, slotted- phillips).
3. Coil mounting screws: m4-0.7x20mm (round head, phillips, SEMS).
4. Coil Wire screws: M4-0.7x6mm (round head, phillips, SEMS).
