    I had two inguenal hernias as a child, as did my grandfather and his grandfather; for some reason they skip generations in my family. My grandfather was a surgeon and I remember him telling me before my surgery not to worry because, "It was a procedure so simple he could do it in his sleep." He was actually the first one to spot I had a hernia in the first place when I was a toddler running around outside in the sprinkler. I had my surgeries at 4 yo and 7 yo and the worst thing I remember about it was just the nausea from the anesthesia after the op.

      Hi Raja v, I had the surgery Jul 12, 2021, on an outpatient basis in the Los Angeles area. The surgeon examined me just before surgery and found that I had a minor left inguinal hernia as well, and said he would use meshes to fix them both. They still put you under general anesthesia. Mine was done laparoscopically. It's fairly high tech using robotics and the operation wasn't cheap. But It is better than the conventional "cut you open" operation. The first week or so, you aren't suppose to do sit-up like movements - besides it hurts anyway. But the 3rd day after surgery, I was already taking a slow mile walk. Although the restriction was no heavy lifting beyond 15 pounds for the first month, by the 3rd week, I felt that the pain in the surgical area was pretty much gone. Hope this info helps. wq

    I had my inguinal hernia surgery 16 days ago. It is good to read some honest comments here. I have seen some people post videos saying they were better after a week and let's just say they are in the minority😄. My surgeon did a poor job in letting me know about the after effects of the surgery so I wanted to share those with anyone that reads my comments. I could not urinate after the surgery because of the effects of the anesthesia so day 2 I had to have a catheter inserted. NOT an enjoyable experience! A day later I had it removed and all my body fluids flowed as normal. I expected soreness around the incision but my right testicle was also very sore. Another aspect my surgeon failed to clue me in on. The whole area around the incision is still swollen over 2 weeks later and the incision itself feels like an underground pipeline is under it. Another aspect she said was normal while it heals. My surgeon prescribed Tylenol with codeine for pain and it does not help at all and the codeine only makes you constipated so make sure you ask for something stronger if you feel your pain threshold is low. I have been rechecked twice since the surgery and she says it is progressing fine but I have my doubts😄. She said to count on 6 weeks for recovery. I think I will need every bit of 6 weeks.

      Oh crap Mark, that sounds awful. Forewarning is so important in situations like this, and it's only fair to be advised of ALL the possibilities beforehand.
      Now this may sound misogynistic , but it is knowledge I gained from first hand experience. Having had more than one Dr throughout my life, being a man, I would not recommend to any men out there to have your general physician be a woman. A male doctor is a man, and men intrinsically know about men. For instance, your lady Dr. has no experience when it comes to testicles. It is only something she has read about. She couldn't possibly know how and in what way they are sensitive. It wasn't surprising to hear that she rather flippantly disregarded the importance of informing you on a topic of which she has very little knowledge. Book learning alone seems to be an insufficient medium to convey rather important information.
      A lack of empathy is another field I have discovered to be common, and mostly for conditions and injury's that only men could experience. And that is extremely frustrating. It can feel as if the Dr. doesn't believe what you are telling her.
      Anyway, personally never had the best experience with female drs. It was a real eye opener to discover the two types of drs in the field and the differences I experienced.
      I don't mean to broad stroke brush across all lady doctors as being that way. I'm sure there are many fine perfectly suited female doctors that would be good for men as well. For me, I will stick with a man doctor every time.

      @manilowmaniak Год назад +1

      @@markhonea2461 I am on the fence, but I will have to say that this doctor is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen😍. She would have made a lot more money as a model, but it is good that she cared enough to stay with medicine. The problem with picking a hernia surgeon or in fact any surgeon, none of them had the procedure done on themselves so they cannot know the experience before or after. They can only relay what their patients have told them.

      @Oded Hen Well, I was joking with the lady surgeon and the team when I suddlenly fell asleep and when I woke up, the "hernia pain" was no there, instead I got "fuck this is how it feels been cut pain" I could walk, tho, so it wasn't that bad, I got some dizzy/puke time because of anesthesia and from that day and on the "cut" pain slowly faded away... It was reeeeeeally close to 0% after 6 month. In resume, is better having a cut that heals than a hole "hernia" that does not. Cheer up! :D

    Had my left hernia inguinal laparoscopic surgery on 5th oct . Today is 3rd day . Everything is painful ( laughing, bowel movement, coughing, waking up from bed ) . and had to wear tight underwear to keep my b-a-lls up to reduce swelling. which is also painful. Its a common procedure for docs but the location of the surgery in the body is very sensitive and difficult for the patient.

    Tips and information for recovering from Hernia Surgery if you live alone.
    These are things you should do before you leave the house to go for surgery.
    Cook and prepare a week’s worth of meals and snacks before surgery. Meals that will be easy to pass through your digestive system. Things like vegetable soup with beans, carrots, celery…, oatmeal with prunes, egg salad, chicken salad, steamed carrots and broccoli, asparagus… low fat and low grease type foods. Snacks like apples, oranges, *ripe* bananas, all kinds of fruits are good to keep things moving.
    Start taking a stool softener one or two days before surgery and then continue taking it when you get home.
    Place something next to your toilet you can grab onto to help you get on and off the toilet. Do the same for your bed and other areas you may sit.
    Have toothpaste, toothbrush, and floss out and ready to use. A glass of water to rinse your mouth out. You’re not going to be able to bend over to _cup water_ in your hands.
    If you don’t already have a _grabber,_ get one.
    Do not take your phone to surgery. Leave your phone at home on your nightstand and fully charged.
    Have on hand at least two ice packs that you can wrap a clean cloth around to put over the location of surgery and rotate them from the freezer as needed. This will keep the swelling down.
    Read your after surgery instructions and follow them. Listen to your doctor and follow his/her orders. Keep the wound area clean and clean it with an antibacterial soap every morning and again before you go to bed at night.
    The next day get up and walk but be careful. I walked outside around the cul-de-sac four times a day starting the day right after surgery. Twice in the morning, once in the afternoon, and then again in the evening.
    Have clean sheets on your bed.
    Wear loose fitting clothes.
    Have plenty of water and Gatorade on hand and before you leave for surgery place a few bottles on your nightstand, computer desk, kitchen table, kitchen counters, your television chair, and in your refrigerator. Drink plenty of liquids. At least four bottles per day.
    Take pain medication as needed but don’t over do it. All pain medications can cause constipation.
    A thermometer on your nightstand.
    A list of movies you may want to watch.
    I can’t sugarcoat this for you. The first three days are going to be tough so be ready. It gets easier on your fourth day.
    Good luck and I hope this helps.

    Had mi inguinal surgery done in June 22 this year cause it got incarcerated. Had it their for about 6 years had no pain though but let me tell you it was huge like the size or bigger than a fist. Went to the ER and they told us has to come out. But surgery went well thank God 🙏 I was in recovery room for 45 minutes they told me was I pass urine I could go home. But for everyone that's going to have this done do it. I'm not lying the only discomfort I had for 4 days was getting out of bed not from hernia pain just the incision only. Was black and blue for about 4 days in the groin area. But testicles swollen for about 6 weeks do to the fluid the gets trapped there but no pain at all. Had my surgery at Kaiser here in CA. Any questions that anyone needs I will try to answer you guys back good luck to anyone going to do surgery you guys will be fine,,👍

The operation was about an hour long when they were taking me to operating it was lights out didn't even see the room woke up in recovery and the nurse told me as soon as you urine you could go home. I don't think I lasted no more the 45 minutes in there . The only discomfort I had was from the incision only and slowly getting out of bed. Had no problem walking either. Next week will be 6 months that I had the open surgery. Good luck to you man but please take care of it your young and you will be fine🙏

Some ppl get lucky and can live their whole lives, but if u get into the 1% category and ur intestine ruptures or gets suffocated ull go septic and die. It'd be very painful and you need to do it bro. I promise I had it done when I was 7. It was fine. It reopened and I'm 26 now so I'm going to send it and do it. I've had it over a year and half now. I regret waiting but as long as u do it before it gets strangulation ur good.

      To answer your Question. Your Hernia Mesh can take upto 3 Months to fully heal. When the Surgery is done. You can go back to your Normal Activities after 3 to 6 weeks depending on the Advice your Surgeon will give you. When you do return to the gym. You have to do Abdominal Exercises to strengthen them Because if you start to lift weights right away. You may cause recurrence hernia so you have to be careful especially with Lifting Weights. Yes you can lift weights but don't go Heavy with them right away.
      But before all of that. When the Surgery is done. You can easily recover after 3 Days. In that period of time you need to Walk. Remember walk slowly. If you're at jogging/Running pace. You will likely going to Cause Recurrence hernia.
      For 3 Days to 3 weeks do walking to help hernia with Healing process then 3 to 6 weeks, start with physical Exercises to strengthen your Abdominal, ab and oblique muscles. However when it's come to lifting Activities, do them with low weights.
      After 6 Weeks you can do Any Activities and you can start do Compound exercises such as Squat, deadlift and bench press. However you need to Start them with low Weight and slowly make your way up. Remember Hernia mesh can take 3 months to fully heal so you have to be Careful. When the mesh Is fully heal. You have to focus on strengthening Abdominal muscles as much as possible Because if you move to lifting Activities right away without strengthening Abdominal muscles. You will likely going to Developed Another hernia which will be Epigastric, Umblical or femoral Hernia.
      I hope my comment helps you.

I continue going to gym and playing sports..a week ago the bulge stays (instead of coming and going)...I then noticed I couldn't move for more than 10 minutes without ab , mons pubis and left testicle pain... so I saw a doctor..referred me onto another...who said that because my hernia is 10cm I cannot get surgery..it's only available through our hospitals if its 20cm or larger...I am feeling pain in my abdomen all day along , a tight cramping feeling , with lots of gas and burping..do I now live with this ? What can I do? Today I've begun changing my diet : eating less throughout the day , little bitty meals...eating well before bedtime , will start swimming soon , no heavy lifting... any help would be great!

    Ever since my inguinal hernia mesh operation I’ve had urination problems, had tests and scopes done, bladder and prostate are fine, doctors say it’s a mystery and not related to my rather large groin hernia repair. Could this be a complication due to an inguinal hernia operation????? Desperate to know from others!

    • @stuartireland5974
      @stuartireland5974 4 года назад

      No, the symptoms are very much similar to enlarged prostate or prostatitis, it basically feels like you’ve got a full bladder all the time. Tests show signs of polyuria and week urine stream, however according to blood tests and rectal exams my prostate is apparently fine and I don’t have diabetes, also according to a recent cystoscopy, my bladder is fine. One doctor told me that it’s a mystery. I have reached out to a lot of people who have had the groin mesh and urination complications seem to be an issue. My father in law had his groin hernia repaired at the age of 72 and he has had similar complications ever since, he was told by doctors that it’s caused by his age however he never had any issues beforehand. If you google “Inguinal hernia mesh, urination complications” there’s alot of information, but trying to get NHS doctors to acknowledge it is impossible. So frustrating. My mother’s friend who’s a retired GP has told me that unfortunately I need to go private to get to the bottom of it. It’s sad but that’s the route I need to take. It’s a pain in the dick. Pardon the language.

Had a phone appointment with the doc and went in this afternoon, I knew it was a hernia but she explained about it more. With this covid bollox it'll be way over a year to get it on the NHS(if ever) so that leaves private and it seems mesh is all the UK offers. "Shouldice" method looks best as no alien stuff being implanted but nobody does it here and it would cost a fortune privately even if they did, same with Desarda method. I can get consultation and open surgery mesh for £2200 in Glasgow but have found a few recent reports that have set doubts in my mind. My one so far(it's early days) is not painful and goes away lying down but my biggest fear is it getting worse...or it popping into my ball sack if I overdo something...I have learned a lot in 24hrs but don't know whether to just wait and see if I can get by as others seem to claim they can...but a lifetime of that at the back of your mind sucks too...the report covered 5 years/25k operations but there was one year of complaints/issues/problems and only 42 responses out of that so around 42 of 5,000...does that mean the rest were ok? Is that acceptable risk?? • @shavedwolf87
      @shavedwolf87 3 года назад +2

      @@alezfilms I had my inguinal hernia done about 2 months ago. It’s quite weird to be under anesthesia, and I mean that in a good way. I remember laying on the surgery bed, asking about these things they put on my legs to help with circulation and next thing I know I’m waking up after the surgery in a bed. The drug is so powerful that you will feel nothing and remember nothing about the surgery. So don’t be scared. I was not in that much pain right out of surgery, the only thing that hurt was my throat, it felt very dry from the breathing tube, the first thing I asked for was some water.

    • @OpSmiles1x
      @OpSmiles1x Год назад

      I gotta get mine done. I wouldn't worry about cost. Hospitals will operate even if ur broke. It's normally 6k. With insurance ull prob pay $0-$1k. But regardless it's not an upfront payment and they won't rip ur stitching or mesh out if u don't pay. Get it done because it could cause u to go septic and die. I have one and I'm going to the drs on the 23rd to set a date for surgery. I'm scared but u gotta do it
