  • There are plenty of flagships around but HUAWEI has just entered the ring and announced its new Pura 70 series is going global! The Pura 70 Ultra is impressive on paper, BUT the letdowns of this phone make it a tricky phone to recommend.

There's a reason the US is scared shitless of pure Chinese products.
I remember, back in 2018 or 2019, I had this Chinese student in my class, and when he sat next to me, and whipped out his Huawei's MateBook Pro X [if I recall correctly], I was just amazed by how good that thing is.
I had a 13' 2017 MBP. That MateBook's build quality and feel was as good as my MacBooks.
Which is a big deal, because even today, no other company comes close to Apple's level of build quality than Dell [that too just its XPS Lineup].
Was recently in China on a Work trip. Got to see the Luxeed S7 in person. Tesla looks like shit in front of it.
No wonder Tesla's shit-scared of BYD, Xiaomi and other Chinese EV Makers.

Yeah the Chinese make good products. I remember when I was in Highschool in 2012, my history teacher said China wasn't competition for the USA because they only made cheap plastic toys, lmao.
American mentality is of denying the facts by ridicule and hoping the issue magically goes away and if it doesn't then impose sanctions.
Shame. The great things both titans could achieve if the USA was only willing to be humble and work with China.

For me pura 70 series is the best looking smartphone of this year. Yes, the Kirin is still several years behind Snapdragon and there are no Google services, but this is completely "western technology free" phone. And here in Russia it is officially sold at the same price as in China (or even cheaper).

What surprises me the most is that there isn't much difference between the iPhone and Huawei.
Yes, there's a difference, but it's not that huge, to be honest.
So, I'm not sure it's worth buying, even though I'd like to.
Installing Google apps on a Huawei isn't very complicated, but it requires more effort than on an iPhone. Moreover, I live in Europe, so the models available to us will only have 4G.
Therefore, it's not certain that it's worth it compared to an iPhone 15 Pro Max in reality
