Personally I found turning off the internet essential for deep concentration. The whole point is eliminating distractions and interruptions, so centering your deep work routine around a social media app (which is designed to distract you, and forces you to remain online) seems to be making things unnecessarily difficult. At the same time, many people do find it helpful to have someone watching them while they work (and there are even companies built around the idea of pairing you with a random stranger who watches you work, LOL).
Seems to be a nice protocol but I have some questions. I don't quite understand if the **smaller tasks** that are mentioned supposed us to (eg: study biology, but define which Biology topics to study. (eg: Photosyntesis, cellular respiration)... And about the **what** is suppose (Eg: Goal study Biology - what is the goal? To learn about Photosyntesis and Cellular respiration). Am I right?
The goal is to specify as much as possible so you don't have to think about it during your study session! So, the what is the singular objective in your case studying biology but by defining it further you help clarify your goal for the session! So from just study biology to learning cellular respiration in biology would 10x your session because its less work for your brain! The actionable steps is something else that helps your what. How are you going to complete your goal, right? So to me it looks like smaller tasks and what is kind of the same thing.

Next, start a focus session (or Pomodoro session)and cover the important topics then finish up with as many practice questions as possible. As you said, you can't do all of it it in a day so play smartly and focus on the important questions your professors or seniors have recommended you to do or go through practice questions and do the most asked questions.

⏲DEEP WORK PROTOCOL ⏲
Step 1 PREPARATION
need: clarity
through one single goal -> point of focus
what, when and how to reach the goal/objective
need: accountability -> so you follow through
Step 2 ENGAGE
need: action and focus
go through F O C U S at the start of the session
F : familiar (a ritual before starting to prime)
O: objective (be specific about what you will do)
C: capture (capture any important stuff during your session -> get back to it later so you don’t get distracted)
U: urgency (time limit)
S: surroundings (get rid of distractions)
Step 3 SUSTAIN
need: to be aware of our focus
seek to be in the sweet spot
bored (make it more interesting, switch to something more challenging) overwhelmed (make it less tasking, easier, ask for help, switch to something else)
how to notice: intrusive thoughts & negative emotions
need: energy
typical rhythm 90min focus, 20min break
increase/uphold your energy through sleep, diet and exercise
use study breaks to recover
hope this helps you reach whatever you strive for 🌦🌈
