  • The Kick-Off meeting for the openSUSE ALP Architecture meeting started with the above presentation from Richard Brown (Distribution Architect @ SUSE), covering the following:
    - What is SUSE ALP?
    - What SUSE be building, and when.
    - How Richard sees the 'gap' between what SUSE ALP will be and what our current Leap user base expects.
    - Richard's initial thoughts on how this group might want to address that 'gap'

In my opionion the best thing as an end user about the Tumbleweed / Leap situation was always that tinkering with and learning the ins and outs of my desktop system (Tumbleweed) translated well to server stuff (Leap). In that way I'll be a happy camper with openSUSE Tumbleweed and openSUSE Granite personally. Considering the different needs of desktop users compared to servers I would think most users would be well served between openSUSE Tumbleweed and openSUSE Aeon that I don't know how much a separate NewLeap desktop system would really be needed. Maybe the best solution would be an EPEL style repo to extend openSUSE Granite?

Capability is a function of capacity and ability.
Whilst it is nice to offer everything, IMO, the writing is on the wall for Leap to be able to be maintained and should probably be descoped, at least until Granite comes out of which it is then is reevaluated whether the offering can be maintained.

I have the impression that there is not a lot of interest in the opensuse community for an alp derivative?
There's no chance I guess that Suse ALP will be freely available to the community like opensuse leap is today? (Meaning: going straight to the source for alp without paying an arm and a leg like for SLES now?)
