I used to despise Wacky Workbench's theme; nowadays it's one of my favourites. I love all the moving parts and the New Jack Swing flare its got. It sounds like the beeps and grinds of a whirring, unstable machine thats about to blow. The use of the phone dial fused with the record scratches is the cherry on top. It's like we' re platforming through the inside of a modem.

    Great video! My ranking here:
#14: Tidal Tempest US: Did they actually think jazz music with a funky groove will fit an underwater level?? I mean it's not terrible. The pace needs to be slower. The song's also kinda long...
#13: Palmtree Panic US: listen, I DO dig the Spanish/Mexican vibes this song gives off, but the pace needs to be way faster this time. The acoustic guitar solo is nice.
#12: Collision Chaos US: I have a huge hatred for this song when compared to me ranking this in the past. All it really is is just some slap bass and guitar swells and boom! Job done! It's more ominous and therefore more suitable for a bad future. I think it will do well if it swapped places with Collision Chaos bad future JP. Speaking of Collision Chaos...
#11: Collision Chaos JP: Wow, I did not expect to rank this song so low! It has a LOT more effort out into it unlike it's US counterpart... The whole song reminds me off those bouncy balls in the Zone.
#10: Quartz Quadrant US: This is literally just a generic rock song. Just guitars and drums. It's not really suitable for the level... I really like 4:37 and 5:25 though!
#9: Metallic Madness US: The song is kinda slow-paced which doesn't really match the chaos of its corresponding level. I love the build up though and the guitar solo at the end is class!
#8: Metallic Madness JP: Now we're talkin'! This song let's you know from the get-go that things are about to get intense. Who knew a 50 year old man with a receding hairline could rap so flawlessly?! I feel like the US version fits Act 1 while the JP one fits Act 2. And also I thought the saxophone solo in Mania was completely original... Turns out I was wrong. 😔😔 That doesn't take away from this song though.
#7: Stardust Speedway JP: one of the more iconic Sonic CD songs. I like it but the US one is way superior. The 'Hue Hue' guy is cool as well.
#6: Tidal Tempest JP: I love the breathy sound effects, the pad and drums. Very suitable for an underwater level!
#5: Quartz Quadrant JP: I love this song and all, but I don't really think it's as good as everyone claims it to be. The first half is energetic and the second half is more relaxing, peaceful and melancholic.
#4: Wacky Workbench JP: yeah, I understand the low ranking but that's what makes the song suit the level so much. Was an early favourite of mine.
#3: Wacky Workbench US: it was close between this and #4, but at the end of the day, this song is just more memorable overall, even if it has a completely different approach.
#2: Stardust Speedway US: This song is SO underrated that it's actually kinda criminal. The song is just quick enough to fit both 'Stardust' and 'Speedway' the song is also so ethereal. I imagine lying down at night at the silhouette of a city right in front of my eyes listening to this song. Either that or I drive around late at night around the city, also listening to this song, obviously! 10:12 is definitely the best!
#1: Palmtree Panic JP: This song is way too cheerful that I actually kinda like it. It definitely puts an excellent first impression for the player when they boot up this game. The ending is so good as well. No wonder why the good future used the same ending but made it even more melancholic!
But anyways that's the end of the list! Have a great day! 😃🤗

There’s just something about US collision chaos that attracts me towards it. To me, it is both beautiful, AND strange, a perfect way of describing collision chaos’s level aesthetic and looks. There’s a beauty and strangeness in US collision chaos, and for that, I see it as a very unique take in collision chaos, and that’s why I love it. But, JP CC’s new jack swing is just addicting, I can’t help but prefer it over the US one.

Because the Bad Future tracks weren't meant to sound "sad" or "rusty" or "trashed" in the first place, since in the original Japanese soundtrack none of the tracks really convey that feeling. Instead they sound artificial, agressive, fast paced and evil even. The composers clearly wanted to put emphasis on what *makes* these locations so rusty and trashed, because ultimately the game is about "Nature VS. Harmful Technology" (Yes, specifically *harmful* technology, since the Good Futures show that technology and nature can co-exist in peace unless a psycho like Dr. Eggman is involved), so the soundtrack here is used as a tool to convey the specific message about technology being the reason for the Little Planet dying, while in the US version of the game it's only obvious because of the background and design of the Bad Futures, and the US Bad Future music doesn't sound mechanical or artificial at all, but sad, despairing and desolate instead.

I'll put my personal ranking here as well:
    14. Tidal Tempest US - Some people like it, I don't. It's long, drawn out and really boring.
    13. Collision Chaos US - I don't really like that one either. The Future versions improve it, but the basic tune is kinda bland.
    12. Palmtree Panic US - The first level needs to set an example. Palmtree Panic US fails in its task on all timelines.
    11. Quartz Quadrant US - For a soundtrack with really good guitar works, this is a very basic riff. It also doesn't fit the stage really well, which is strange for a US track.
    10. Wacky Workbench JP - Similarly to Collision Chaos US, it's way too bleak for the Present, and honestly not a very good track on its own. However, it makes a really scary Bad Future.
    9. Metallic Madness US - It doesn't provide the intensity needed for the final act, but otherwise it's a very interesting track. It gives the feeling of "It's gonna be tough, but you can do it!"
    8. Tidal Tempest JP - A pretty low ranking for a very interesting track. I just like the others even more.
    7. Stardust Speedway JP - For how iconic the stage and its Japanese tracks are, I honestly find them a little too basic at times.
    6. Palmtree Panic JP - A very cheerful, tropical theme that is absolutely perfect for the first stage.
    5. Stardust Speedway US - I prefer all the US tracks of Stardust Speedway over the Japanese versions. This one truly does feel like running alone in the streets at night, and all of them are great for running - even if this one doesn't play at the race.
    4. Wacky Workbench US - Just a great track with an awesome groove.
    3. Collision Chaos JP - This track is also very groovy and funky. Deciding between numbers 4 and 3 was really hard.
    2. Metallic Madness JP - The perfect track for the final act and assaulting Robotnik's fortress.
    1. Quartz Quadrant JP - A musical masterpiece.

I have no clue why The US soundtrack is so obsessed with the Kongo drums and the electric guitar; half the soundtrack is filled with either or both of these instruments

    • @manuelmakesartz
      @manuelmakesartz 2 дня назад

No, at least not entirely. Only the Collision Chaos and Metallic Madness tracks have actual bongo performances. Palmtree Panic also has a lot of acoustic percussion, but it's not centered around bongos like the former mentioned. Most zones' themes (Present and Futures) have kick and snare drums, as well as toms and cymbals; a regular drumset. As for the guitar, it is true. The whole soundtrack is filled with acoustic and electric guitar performances. Acoustic performances are basically part of the musical style.

Ah! I realised that, after re-watching this vid 5 times or so, I never gave my ranking of these tracks and my thoughts and feelings about them, let's fix that now!
    14) Wacky Workbench JP - Even if I rank this last, I don't think it's a bad song but, it's just decent. Fits the "wacky" name of the level but I admit the sound effects can be a bit much.
    13) Collision Chaos US - it's surreal and atmospheric but, not very suited to a level where Sonic is flung around all over the place on flippers and bumpers.
    12) Tidal Tempest US - it's a funky song yes and it can be an acquired taste but: that last part: two words for you: 'swing rhythm'
    11) Metallic Madness US - from here on, these do fit their respective levels. Cold and mechanical are apt descriptions. This one gives me the internal monologue: "Well, this is it. My greatest task at hand lies before me. The fate of Little Planet is about to be decided."
    10) Palmtree Panic JP - I think this is a great song! Maybe it is just a tough too happy for the present? It will make you feel good after a bad day.
    9) Startdust Speedway JP - A funky song and yeah the HUE vocal puts a smile on my face when I hear this. It's a catchy one.
    8) Wacky Workbench US - HORRIBLE level, great song! Can't deny that this is another catchy one! Takes the pain out of getting through this level a little.
    7) Palmtree Panic US - "Is there somewhere I can get an ice cold cocktail, or ice cream or slushee, preferably cola, lemon, strawberry or lime flavour?" Great tropical sounding song for the game's opening level.
    6) Quartz Quadrant US - Can't resist that hard rock riff that hits hard, gives you the energy to blast through this mining complex with extra gusto!
    5) Collision Chaos JP - funky song for a funky level. Even if I don't enjoy this level all that much but, the song, it's great.
    4) Tidal Tempest JP - "I wonder what mysteries beg to be discovered here in this temple complex" is the vibe this song invokes in me. amazing song and fits the stage perfectly.
    3) Quartz Quadrant JP - okay my top 3 are VERY hard to seperate because they are all incredible but, I feel like that, while this song fits perfectly in the context of a rich mineral cave, makes one want to spend their days here exploring every corner of the place. Just phenomenal.
    2) Metallic Madness JP - "Alright Robotnik, show me what you got!" Is what comes to mind when I think of Sonic's view in this stage but, GAWD does this track have a catchy, infectious energy that will get you pumped to take down this mechanical fortress with every fiber in your being!
    1) Stardust Speedway US - I had a hard time deciding what my number 1 is but, I had to give the very slightest edge to SS US. Why? Atmosphere: "what say you: want to race me through the speedway and see who gets to the goal plate first? Hang on!! Sure is a nice night for this, huh?" That is what I would imagine if I woke up here and Sonic were to say to me in this place. This song has a strong 80's vibe and those long descending synths at the end make it for me. Perfectly paints the picture of breezing through a huge road network in a bustling metropolis under a vast starry sky with lightshows illuminating the place for that extra surreal feeling.
So yeah! Hope this analysis will be food for thought! Of course this is all my own opinion so, each to their own! Have a great day anyone who reads this to the end!

    my opinion: (yes its changed)
    14. Wacky Workbench JP - F teir (3.50) this placement has'nt changed much but its actually suprising to find out I acutally dont hate this track I think its just kinda meh it is annoying and it is a disaster but not the worst of all time but it is the worst sonic cd song
    13. Tidal Tempest US - E teir (5.34) this has fallen down a bit but its not a bad song at all! I like this song I only have 2 problems, it doesn't suit an underwater level and its not very interesting but other than that its pretty cool
    12. Quartz Quadrant US - E teir (5.50) once again, only 2 problems, it doesn't suit the level AT ALL and its not that interesting its just a rock song which I do like rock but this one is just too much rock to the point where its annoying
    11. Palmtree Panic US - C teir (7.20) this is way higher than the prievious ones because its actually a fairly fitting song, its not annoying and it does the job pretty well, my only problem is that its very boring other than that its pretty cool
    10. Collision Chaos US - B teir (8.37) idk how this song suits a bad future its not even close! It suits pretty well for a present its actually not annoying its a cool song + all the collision songs are amazing in sonic games (spring yard casino night carnival night collision chaos and studiopolis)
    9. Metallic Madness JP - B teir (8.88) hot take, this song doesn't suck AT ALL but its weak compared to the others I do think it suits a final level very well, its just that it doesn't do anything for me
    8. Collision Chaos JP - B teir (8.95) this fell down quite a bit, this turned into one of my favorite songs of all time to not one of them, I think this song is VERY catchy and deserves more respect for sure!! as a song it deserves probobly below 10th place but still its a great fit!
    7. Stardust Speedway JP - A teir (9.00) does this song not wanna make you get up and start dancing? because it makes me wanna do that because MY GOD is this a phenominal track, while its not as good as the US vertion its still awesome it does fit but not that well..
    6. Stardust Speedway US - A teir (9.44) this is strangly a better fit than the JP vertion imo! I love this song because it mainly focuses on the atmosphere and is a very catchy song and MAN THAT ENDING.. THAT WAS AWESOME
    5. Metallic Madness US - A teir (9.49) this used to be an early favorite of mine on metallic madness! while I still do love this song a lot I dont think its terrible at all + it suits the level and does an amazing job at it + it gives off a vibe of hope unlike the JP vertion
    4. Tidal Tempest JP - S teir (9.75) man this song is so chill plus it suits the level way more than the US vertion, this will become a common trend later, what makes it amazing is that its focues on the chill side of tidal tempest and the cooling side which is amazing also it fits almost perfectly with the boss and no one's talking about that!!
    3. Wacky Workbench US - S teir (9.82) this song fixes every problem I have with the JP vertion, its not annoying, its more fitting and its amazing (and focued on the slow side of wacky workbench which is what it does right) overall this song is amazing and my favorite US present theme only JP songs now!
    2. Quartz Quadrant JP - S teir (9.98) my god is this song amazing it suits the level almost perfectly, its an amazing song I cant say anything bad about this song honestly! its even in my top 10 favorites at about #6! I love this song and really is such a chill song
    1. Palmtree Panic JP - S teir (10.0) this song is one of the best songs ive ever heard, not only is it my favorite palmtree panic song AND my favorite present theme, its also my 3rd favorite song in the game!! This song does everything right + it's not annoying it doesn't sound stupid it actually doesn't suit a good future imo and its just a very memorable track and my god that middle part is so god damn good

For my list. Here's my biased opinion based off how much I like it and how much it fits the level.
      14. 0/10 collision chaos US (I hate this everyone and their mother can agree. Even when you make a good future in palmtree panic. It still doesn't fit.)
      13. 2/10 quartz quadrant US (it gets points for sounding good. Even if it's not fitting then it's still good.)
      12. 4/10 palmtree panic JP (its iconic but its major flaw is it firs with a good future even better.)
      11. 4/10 stardust speedway US (I might get so much hate I'm sent to the south pole. Hear me out. It fits the speedway but not the stardust part. It always felt off. This and number 12 are interchangeable. My one phrase for this. "This ain't it chief)
      10. 4.5/10 wacky workbench US (now we're getting into the better themes for the present. Problem here is it NEEDS MECHANICAL NOISES! That and it's got a similar problem with number 12 on the list. It's too happy and fits a good future)
      9. 5/10 Metallic madness US (I want to love it but the madness part is missing. It's an ok theme but one part creeped me out a lot. Being the wind chimes)
      8. 6.4/10 wacky workbench JP (I love this. It's fun!)
      7. 7.8/10 tidal tempest US (ik most of you are shocked but the voice job sounds like ghosts chilling. It's also slow to fit a water level)
      6. 7.8/10 tidal tempest JP (just as good as the US counterpart)
      5. 8.2/10 collision chaos JP (this screams fun. Its chaotic good in a nutshell)
      4. 8.7/10 Quartz quadrant JP (it gets points for the peace vibes and the fun factor. The glass shattering is the creme de la creme)
      3. 9.4/10 metallic madness JP (this sounds like you're raiding eggman's base)
      2. 9.8/10 palmtree panic US (this fixes every problem with the JP version. And you may ask. Why isn't this number 1? Well...)
      1. 100/10 stardust speedway JP (it's perfect! I love the funky city vibes which fits the level. Its catchy, it's good. It's fun to listen to. Its everything I wanted in a sonic level theme.)

  • @lebollsong
    @lebollsong Год назад +2

    My ranking:
    14. Tidal Tempest US: I don't exactly hate this track, it's pretty funky, but just a bit forgettable in some parts and doesn't fit the level that much.
    13. Quartz Quadrant US: This bit is actually kinda underrated. It feels a bit industrial, which fits for a quartz mine, but the outside background with the waterfalls don't match at all. It also feels a bit bland and repetitive in some parts, and I'm not a fan of rock music.
    12. Collision Chaos JP: The upbeat music fits with the loads of bumpers and springs in this stage. I like this track, but it is just not as good as the rest above.
    11. Collision Chaos US: This track is honestly underrated. I like the guitar swells, and as for the "fits the stage" part, I think it does that with the twilight sky. There is another reason why this track oddly fits, but I just can't explain it. I get why people don't like this track though, it's not as "bouncy" as the jp version.
    10. Tidal Tempest JP: The start part with the piano is really good. It fits perfectly with the stage tiles, giving it the vibe of some mystical underwater temple. It's also puts the "Tidal" in Tidal Tempest. Again, other tracks are just better in my opinion.
    9. Palmteee Panic US: It fits the stage perfectly. Tropical as it should be. My only gripe with the track is that it's just less enjoyable to the jp version.
    8. Wacky Workbench US: I bet some people expected me to rank this higher, and I can see why. The start part shows an industrial vibe, and then it cuts to the grooviness, which I also like. I can see what the composers were going for, but the industrial vibe kinda fades away as we get to the good groovy part, and it's why I ranked this track here.
    7. Palmtree Panic JP: I like this track, it was even one of my favorites at one point. The clarinet solos are golden and the bit after that is also up there. My one main gripe with this theme is that it's too cheery, meaning if you put it as a good future track, there wouldn't be much off about it.
    6. Quartz Quadrant JP: This music does a good job at fitting for the inside cave and the outside nature. The start part fits the fact that it's a quartz mine, and sort of makes an industrial vibe. Then, it cuts to describe the scenery of the glowing quartz and the outside. That clarinet part unsurprisingly captures my attention again and I want to say another thing about this track. I like how there's some sort of conflict between machinery and nature through the music. The starting parts represent the industrial-ness, which takes over in the bad future as bits of it are used there. And as for the second half of the track, some of it is also used in the good future, so it represents nature. Despire this though, the other tracks are better to me.
    5. Wacky Workbench JP: I never understood the hate for this theme. It's funky and industrial, which fits the stage. Maybe some parts aren't that enjoyable to listen to, but this track suits me.
4 and 3. Stardust Speedway JP and US: Yep, I like both these tracks (hehe). I can't pick a favorite, as they both have their own flairs. JP is funky and fits the speedway part, while US is also nice to listen to and respresents the stardust part. Time to time I sometimes feel one is better than the other, but my opinion still remains undecided.
2 and 1. Metallic Madness JP and US: Another tie? Yep, these two tracks are also dope, and it's VERY hard to pick a favorite in this one for sure. JP does fit; I don't know how people think it doesn't, for a final showdown. It's also a bop, like most people think. US is a slower pace than JP, but it's also just as good. People think it fits for a dessert theme, but frankly I don't understand that take. The US version does it with the guitar swells and riffs and is totally metallic. Remember my thinking on the battle of nature vs technology in quartz quadrant jp? It's present (ha) here too, only that technology has a bit of an upper hand because it's robotnik's base after all. The guitar and metallic sounds represent the industrial-ness, and most notably the guitar more louder and present in the bad future, while the bits of bongos represent nature, as they're more present in the good future. Another thing to note is that the guitar is completely gone in the good future, to indicate nature has won. In conclusion, both Metallic Madness tracks are equally my favorite present tracks.

    For me:
    14. Tidal Tempest US - 4.50/10 (F Tier)
The only track in Sonic CD that cannot even crack a 5/10. It's not a great fit for the level, and it's really forgettable. This is my least favorite track in all of Sonic CD.
    13. Quartz Quadrant US - 5.50.10 (E Tier)
Just not a fantastic fit for Quartz Quadrant, which sucks since this song has potential with it's great melody.
    12. Tidal Tempest JPN - 6.00/10 (D Tier)
Just like it's US counterpart, it's a forgettable track. At least it fits the level better, but it's really boring. This used to be a favorite of mine over a decade ago, but I now find it to be the worst JPN Present Theme, and the worst JPN track overall, discounting Palmtree Panic Good Future and Bad Future JPN, which would score lower than this track right now.
    11. Wacky Workbench US - 7.10/10 (C Tier)
This used to be a HUGE favorite of mine. This track formerly held the title for my most favorite Present theme, and my 3rd most favorite song of all time. It's amazing how time can make this track age poorly. It's not a great fit for Wacky Workbench, and the melody is a mixed bag. At least it fits the timezone since it's not futuristic, but also not too primitive.
    10. Stardust Speedway US - 7.50/10 (C Tier)
Tidal Tempest Present US 2.0. It's a better fir for its place, but still not a favorite track to listen to, and it's also forgettable. This song does have potential to become better with a good remix. The only thing it's not doing right for me is just its melody. This track pretty much marks the least favorites category as any track that scores a 7.50/10 or less is a least favorite track of mine.
    9. Stardust Speedway JPN - 8.25/10 (B Tier)
It's a good track, but also kinda forgettable. It fits the city in the background more than the actual level itself. One thing I really liked about this track was the guitar in it. It's not common for the JPN OST to use a guitar, and when it does so, it's usually really good.
    8. Metallic Madness US - 8.50/10 (B Tier)
This was a former least favorite of mine that aged better for me as I started to appreciate industrial themed music more. It sets the tone quite well for the final level, and I think of Zone 1 when I hear this track. It's not often that I complement the US Soundtrack's present themes, and this one is quite great compared to the average.
    7. Quartz Quadrant JPN - 8.60/10 (B Tier)
This track used to be my favorite Sonic CD track. It's still relatively good, but not a top favorite anymore. It's not a fantastic fit for Quartz Quadrant Present, so this round is just left up to which track has the better melody, and the JPN OST destroys the US OST here. The second part of the song, which uses the Good Future's melody, is my favorite part of it. Asides from that, this song is alright, but there are much better songs in the game than this.
    6. Palmtree Panic JPN - 8.70/10 (B Tier)
The only Japanese Palmtree Panic track that's not an instant least favorite. This one isn't as weird, silly, or goofy as the future themes, and it has a decent first level fit even if it doesn't fit the background well. I also really like the vocals here.
    5. Palmtree Panic US - 9.10 (A Tier)
Currently the only winning US track in the Present themes. This is quite an ideal fit for Palmtree Panic itself, and it's quite catchy and upbeat. I may not like it as much as the Future themes, but it's still amazing, especially for a US Present Theme.
    4. Collision Chaos US - 9.20/10 (A Tier)
My favorite Present Theme in the official US Soundtrack. It's quite a great fit for Zone 1 when Amy gets kidnapped, and it's a great fit for the natural scenery in the background. I used to not like this one a lot, but I've really grown to love it.
    3. Collision Chaos JPN - 9.40/10 (A Tier)
A prime example of how great the casino themes are in Sonic games. A lot of them sound really good like this one. I love the industrial sounds in the background with the lively feel alongside how catchy and upbeat. It's a great fit for the casino theme of the level.
    2. Metallic Madness JPN - 9.60/10 (S Tier)
This track used to be my least favorite Present Theme in the Japanese Soundtrack, but it now my second most favorite. Just like in Metallic Madness Present US, this track is an example of my appreciation of industrial/factory based music. My favorite part of the song is actually the industrial sounds alongside the bassline in the background. This song has a really huge feel for it which fits Zone 2 more as Metallic Madness Zone 2 is the biggest level in Sonic CD.
    1. Wacky Workbench JPN - 9.89/10 (S Tier)
My favorite Present Theme in all of Sonic CD. This one was never in the least favorites column as I just didn't find a great reason to find it as such, but over time I really started liking the track more as I enjoyed the fast-paced melody with the machinery in the background. This is an ideal fit for Wacky Workbench Present, and it now takes the title of my most favorite Present Theme, which was formerly held by its American counterpart. Fun Fact, the main melody of this track is shaped out like a "W", which is a really ingenious reference to Wacky Workbench being an alliteration of the letter "W".

Disagreements I had with your list (which is still pretty good).
1: Collision Chaos JP is actually my least favourite track in the whole game. Whatever you feel about Wacky Workbench's OSTs, that's what I feel for Collision Chaos's (except the Past and Good Future JP). It may fit well but IMO a bad song fitting a bad stage is NOT a good thing.
2: I prefer Tidal Tempest US to Tidal Tempest JP. It just feels so relaxing.
3: Quartz Quadrant JP has my favourite OSTs in Sonic CD, with Present and Good Future being among my favourite songs in the franchise. I'd easily rank it as 1st.
4: I actually prefer the US Stardust Speedway theme to the JP one.
5: While the US theme is more fitting, Metallic Madness JP is too good of a bop. Not to say the US one isn't a bop too, but gahdayum.
6: Wacky Workbench IMO are both equally good IMO, shame they're stuck to by far the worst stage in the game.
If I had to rank them myself I would go

11: Quartz Quadrant US - Doesn't fit the stage and slightly annoying
10: Wacky Workbench JP - Very annoying but fits the stage very nicely, the only track worse than a stripped back Good Future remix
9: Metallic Madness US - It grows on me, but still doesn't fir the last stage of the game
8: Tidal Tempest JP - Much better than the US version, still kinda subdued
7: Palmtree Panic JP - Great first track, maybe a little too happy for a Present theme
6: Stardust Speedway JP - Amazing track but known mostly for the memes, maybe a little too repetitive
5: Wacky Workbench US - Great groove, I simply like the other four better
4: Stardust Speedway US - Fits the stage in a completely different way than the Japanese version, absolutely epic
3: Collision Chaos JP - I'm addicted to the funky beat, similar to Wacky Workbench US but even better IMHO
2: Metallic Madness JP - Ultimate theme for the ultimate level
1: Quartz Quardrant JP - Musical masterpiece, strong candidate for best track in all timelines alongside Metallic Madness GF JP and Stardust Speedway BF US

4:39 How the heck it doesn't fit the time period of the game? 1993 was a great year for guitar, I mean, rock and metal.

I said it didn't fit the time period because Sonic games at this time really didn't go into rock and metal until 1998 when Sonic Adventure came out. It's more of a Modern Sonic thing than a Classic Sonic thing.
Classic Sonic (1991-97) never really had any rock and metal tracks except for the Sonic CD North American OST, but they did great with the tracks for the North American version. Other than that, Classic Sonic didn't really do that many rock or metal tracks.

@@mr.pickaxe1101 Oh, I see. It's true, the entire series is envolved by rock and metal since the beginning, specially when arrived in the US (the same with Ristar), but that whole thing exploded on Sonic Adventure, just like you said, and continued on SA2, Sonic Rush, Heroes, Black Knight and so on.

I always love seeing appreciation for the US version of Metallic Madness Present! It's one of my absolute favorites on the US ost. It's so atmospheric and beautiful, and perfectly captures the vibe of "this is it, the fate of Little Planet is in your hands."

Tidal tempest US is actually one of my favourites, it's REALLY soothing and kinda funky to boot. But I can see why it's so low on the list, it's an acquired taste

Hey man, I love it too. It's really good and one of the more underrated tracks from both OST's. Looking back, I have no idea why I put this at #13.

I'm partial to the vocals myself. They really bring out the pop of a soundtrack made in the states.
