I have 5 of these and they're awesome. Many white-blooming camellias have very light green leaves that don't always look that great. This variety has beautiful deep green leaves that contrast nicely with the white flowers.
I am considering a moon garden look for a corner of my front yard...I work long hours and think it would be lovely to see blooms in the late evening when I get home. Will be on the lookout for one.
I'm so glad that you are not pushing proven winners--so tired of everyone with them even though its a great brand. Glad to see different plants that are just as reliable if not more so from different brands. With that said, I've always thought this plant as being super fussy. Now its another plant I need to find space for in the garden.
I have six camellia japonica planted in my yards by the previous owner. they are already 5 - 7 feet tall. White Shi-Shi is definitely my next camellia to plant in my yard. Thank you for introducing it here!
I love the summary card at the end! That's a great idea! White Shi Shi has performed really well for me. I can't resist white flowering plants and the dark foliage is outstanding!
I have a dozen+ camellias around my home and since planting this one last year it has quickly jumped up to being one of my favorites. Tons of perfect white flowers! Maryland Zone 7B.
Jim, Im in Houston zone 9. I have 6 pink Shi Shi’s. They spent 1 year in pots and survived the Texas winter storm (outside) in 2021. Then I found Seafoam White Camellia. And I bought 4 of them. Hope to see them get 20ft. You are the reason I am in love with camellias. Thanks for all your knowledge.
I finally was able to get 3 of these this fall from plants by mail and I planted them September 16. They came loaded with buds but the first one just opened a day or so ago. I'm guessing the late opening was caused by transplant shock. They are beautiful plants for sure. I'm near the Gulf in zone 8b (almost 9a).
Thanks for all the great info, Jim. I've been gardening in the north for years. Just recently moved to the south....gardening here is very different. You've helped me out a lot.
Love the look of the specimen in your yard. Our new house has two older camellias that are single white flowers that were pruned horribly by the previous homeowner. I would love to add some of this cultivar to the yard.
Please do a video on the different types of Pieris Japonica evergreen shrubs. I have one that’s buds white flowers which I think is a mountain Pieris or andromeda & another that buds pink flowers which I’m not sure which this is… please help.
I was wondering if you could talk about bugs and diseases. I don’t know what they all are and or how to treat them. It would be nice to be educated. Thanks.
Since we live in The Camellia City (Slidell, Louisiana), I suppose we ought to put some in the ground. It’s hard to tell from the video what your spacing is between plants or how far out from a 6 ft fence they should be planted.
I cant wait for you to make more camellia videos Jim! Not sure if you have grown Christmas Carol, its a Japonica x Sasanqua hybrid, and it is a new variety i believe. I just got one down here in Tampa and would love to hear your thoughts on it
I have a garden bed on the north side of my house. During the summer it gets full sun from about 2pm on. But right now, near the winter solstice, that area only gets the last hour of light. Since this bloom more in the fall winter when the amount of sun will be less then during the summer do you think it will still bloom? I’m loving the new channel.
I have 10 of these and the flowering is beautiful. They will get about 6 hours of sun in the peak of summer with most being the host afternoon sun. I am zone 7a and around my neighborhood there is quite a few other camellia such as Yuletide and one with light green leaves and pink pom pom flowers that have similar morning shade afternoon sun exposure so I am hopeful that come summer I will not have issues.
Really want to plant one of these, but the area I want to put it in tends to get more water when it rains. Due to drain pipe, the area takes takes little longer than surrounding are to dry out. Would mounding it up be sufficient or would this cause issues for this plant?
I feel late the party: didn't know you had a new channel! (other than the collab with Bre). At any rate, I purchased my 1st 2 *October Magics: Ruby* , SLPC 3g (small though; maybe they were recently potted up). Also picked up 2 *William Lanier Hunt* sasanquas (Monrovia, 3g). I'm interested in best placement for all 4, given the morning shade, afternoon sun I have. How about placing 2 ft high/wide *April Series japonica: April Blush* near/under the canopy of a mature, tree form japonica? It will get afternoon sun, but the 15 year old japonica is doing okay there the past 6 yrs.
I need to find a spot for this plant in my 7A (WNC) garden! The previous owners placed the tall variety of camellias (10 ft.) so that the flowers can be seen from the window, but I believe the spot is now too shady. The plants aren't getting the part sun/part shade you recommend. Do you have any suggestions on what can be done?
I bought one of these October white and its opening with a pretty dark pink is that normal for this variety or did I end up getting one that's mislabeled
I purchased one at a local Pike store. The pot was started with 3 plants in it and I would like to separate them. Would you support this approach or should I leave it as it is? I love your videos and do appreciate that they are reasonably short, the higher chance to watch it.
I found a unicorn at Home Depot last year double mislabeled lol I know it’s this one!!!! They are so hard to find anywhere I would LOVE to have several!!!!!! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

You have saved me so much $$$ by showing me how to understand this clay soil. Before I drowned everything I planted.

Shi-Shi…I think I need to plant this just for the name :) but I really like the weeping habit!!
October Magic White Shi-Shi Camellia....yikes! What a mouthful. I love it. So beautiful.
I have six camellia japonica planted in my yards by the previous owner. they are already 5 - 7 feet tall. White Shi-Shi is definitely my next camellia to plant in my yard. Thank you for introducing it here!
I think I would love to try some of these dwarf camellias! The flowers really make a statement when the plant is smaller.
You should and you won’t be disappointed.
I love the summary card at the end! That's a great idea! White Shi Shi has performed really well for me. I can't resist white flowering plants and the dark foliage is outstanding!

These bright white flowers are stunning.
You are rocking on this channel as well!
I like the idea of using this plant on a slope.
What nice form on the plant & flowers too!
So pretty! The weeping habit would look really nice elevated in a pot or on the top of a terrace wall.
Beautiful flowers. Will have get one or more for my front yard
This channel is going to help me get through winter.
Love the double flowers!!
Man this is a pretty plant. Think I’m going to try and plant these around my shed. Thanks Jim!
Oh how pretty! I love that one. I wonder how it would do in my central Texas heat.

I am in Houston zone 9 too and I am going to start adding some Camellias. I had them in our old yard and loved them so much!
Another very informative video. I'm enjoying your new channel.
I love that you give us ideas about how to use it! It is beautiful!! Love the weeping look.
I ❤️the idea of winter interest…I want one❣️
This is a keeper. Hope to find some of these
Congratulations on your new channel.
A disadvantage of white flowering camellias generally is hard freeze can discolor (brown) the flowers. Are these flowers more “freeze resistant “?

That camellia is absolutely beautiful!
Such a beautiful shrub. Thank you for all the information you provide.
So very beautiful. I think I need to add it to my Camelia collection!
Beautiful. I never had camellias and this one looks alot like my gardenias from a distance. So pretty!
I Love this channel! I have a new home going up with plenty of room for lots of plants. The information at the end of each video is so helpful.
Thanks for all the great info, Jim. I've been gardening in the north for years. Just recently moved to the south....gardening here is very different. You've helped me out a lot.
Love the white!

I am excited to add the first camellia to my 7a garden this year. Thank you for the great info on growth habit.
This is perfect! Definitely picking up one of these ASAP!
Gorgeous!! Again something I want but can’t bc I have full sun or just morning sun

Every garden needs winter blooming plants
I was wondering if you could talk about bugs and diseases. I don’t know what they all are and or how to treat them. It would be nice to be educated. Thanks.
Love this plant!
Awesome plant
I want to add some camellias to my yard this year. This is so beautiful I will definitely look for it.

I may have to buy one of these.
I have some of the pink Shi-Shi's and they have performed beautifully for me in 8b. Would love to try these white ones if I could find the right spot.

Great info!
Can you plant this dwarf camelia amongst other dwarf conifers?
I bought one of these October white and its opening with a pretty dark pink is that normal for this variety or did I end up getting one that's mislabeled
My October Magic “Snow “ Camellia still has not bloomed, as of February here in Florida 9a.Not seeing any substantial sized buds either.
I need this plant ASAP!
The way those blooms are hanging might be good in a hanging basket in zones 8 & 9 x
I purchased one at a local Pike store. The pot was started with 3 plants in it and I would like to separate them. Would you support this approach or should I leave it as it is? I love your videos and do appreciate that they are reasonably short, the higher chance to watch it.
Camelias & sweet ice tea.
Where do you get these
Wish I could grow this!
Beautiful
The nursery label says to plant in full sun / part shade, not shade / part shade.
Zone 9 in the full sun that wouldn't go well.
I absolutely love this plant but I’m in zone 6. What do you think the chances are of this shrub growing in Cincinnati???
I will be covering some zone 6 camellias soon
Another awesome featured plant in your landscape that us zone 6-ers will have to live without!
👋😃
I found a unicorn at Home Depot last year double mislabeled lol I know it’s this one!!!! They are so hard to find anywhere I would LOVE to have several!!!!!! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
