I think I have the male version of that jacket, its fine for journeys under 2 hours where it could rain .. For that money you can't really go wrong, 1 - The reflective piping is a plus 2 - it doesn't really fold down well , mine doesn't with me 🙃 so as a top tip I squeeze it into a sock then it fits better in stuff

I got soaking wet on the ride into work last month, dried my t-shirt in the oven before putting it back on. Can't do wet clothes . The natives weren't super impressed 😂😂 but it worked ..
Another hard rain story a few years ago before lockdown at work it had been raining hard all afternoon. I kept on looking and hoping it would end and just give me a puddley ride back, but no ... So off home I set squinting into the rain cursing myself every minute .
40 minutes into the ride the rain still coming in sideways 3 blokes on road bikes came screaming past me all in shorts and short sleeve tops .. how why it must of been raining when they set off, what's it good for ?? Is it an elite club?? the we like riding in the driving rain gang, I knew I didn't want to join it, was it a rite of passage ? Would I have to do that one day ?? How does it come up in conversation , all these thoughts

I never thought I'd see a Wet T-Shirt contest on a cycling channel. 😮 I really want to say more about that. But I'm trying to be on my best behavior. So I'll just say that THIS WAS THE MOST FUN CYCLING VIDEO EVER!! ☔️🌈👏👏👏
You may not believe this, but when you pointed out that it wasn't going to rain, I guessed that you were going to a car wash! Very creative, and you so bravely stood up to getting blasted right in the face! You are unbelievable!❤️
Cycle jackets don't usually have hoods and you always get some water down your neck and considering you got a real faceful of water and Phil didn't, I think it did pretty well (except on breathability). If you wear a buff in the winter rain you can really get a lot of water wicking down your neck irrespective of how good your jacket is.

Rain jackets are something I won’t scrimp on (and I’m lucky to be able to make that choice). Even though my Gore Shakedry jacket was crazy expensive, it fits like a glove (as opposed to being a flappy binbag) and has kept me dry in a 2 hour club ride where it poured down from the 1st minute to the last - just a shame my gloves didn’t hold up as well that day! A good rain jacket (and some mud guards) make a massive difference to wet weather riding in my opinion

Must confess for sweaty types like me no jacket really keeps you dry. If it’s v waterproof isn’t breathable enough to wick away the perspiration. If it is v breathable it leaks. A good jacket definitely keeps me warm(ish) but not dry but that’s more because I sweat too much.
Great test though and very fair assessment, as always.
Gortex is such a wonderful fabric. Probably the best thing you can get if you want the airflow but not the water.
Katie you are the absolute ultimate, who else would go through such a test for the good of us. I've always said you are quite comfortable showing us all the good and bad stuff that you experience but this test is brilliant, funny and insightful. Hilarious! I know this was a jacket test, but I can't get past you both being jet washed with a high power nozzle.
yeah I think this might have been more of a joke than to actually test waterproofness of cycling jacket. The legit rain jacket wouldn't be used on a bike, for fit and pocket reasons, and pretty sure there are better cycling rain jackets out there by Gore, Garneau, Sugoi, etc.
Lastly, I think if there is a pressure washer amount of water coming at you on your bike, getting wet might not be your biggest concern, maybe staying on the bike is.

This is what I do when washing waterproofs.
Take the laundry liquid draw out of the machine and give it a clean. If I can be bothered I will soak it overnight and then clean it.
Put your machine on a standard (40c) cycle with no detergent (standard or specialized) in it.
Wash waterproofs using Nikwax, Granger's special stuff. You buy a seperate washer and reproofer or a combined mix. DP liquid laundry soap flakes does the same job as the specialized washer and is cheaper
I don't have a tumble drier so give my jacket / trousers after treatment a low heat iron to activate the chemicals.
Normal detergent makes clothes less waterproof so the initial steps is to remove as much of this as possible.
All jwaterproif ackets / trousers will eventually lose their waterproofness even after treatment.

Breathability is always an issue with jackets. I'm on the lookout for a decent fall riding jacket that's windproof, but also vents perspiration. My existing jacket gets wet and clammy on the inside midway through the ride.
Could you review some gear from Planet X Bike? They often have some amazing deals on kit. I've been pleased with the stuff I've bought from them so far. Even though I live in Canada, it still worked out to be a much better deal with exchange rate and shipping then paying retail for the same items.
What you two get up too, really funny. I have an expensive bit old jacket, allegedly it's breathable but I've always found it to be boil in the bag.🤣❤

We don't get a lot of rain in California, so I don't own rain jackets! But I'd love to find more options for Summer biking outfits ☺
I think the jacket is good value, Katie. It will give you adequate protection from occasional showers but not hours of downpour or a pressure hose soaking! lol ps your wellies did great as water catchers, too! haha Fun vid! 😂
Looks to me like the biggest issue would be condensation, you were wet with sweat and I think had the front unzipped, what's it going to be like fully zipped up in the rain on one of those hills you like! I reckon you'd be soaked in sweat. Comes a point when unless it's really cold you better off just getting wet from the rain, especially on a short ride when you know your returning to a hot shower.
Ever thought about trying Galibier stuff Katie? Get good feedback and I am going to try the tourmalet3 over a Rapha Team Pro lightweight waterproof to see. Great review by the way. Liked your birthday one as well. 👍☀️

Even though that isn’t breathable.. my goretex £150 jacket is also not breathable once you’ve put it on when it’s hot and rainy

Also your mate says about how the waterproof material is measured , saying 15,000mm for all day riding , but its taped seems that make the jacket waterproof as i have owned jackets rated 20,000 from Gore Tex and other brands and the jackets leaked because the seams were not taped now my current waterproof jacket from Endura is amazing it doesn’t leak I’ve used it hill walking in Wales 8 hours of consistent wind driven rain and I use it too cycle to work in the rain my commute is at least 45mins I’ve not had it leak yet I’m not sure of the waterproof rating but I do like the kit they make……

I got a Medium men's jersey as end of line for £4 yesterday.. The Medium is deff on the large size and looks a bit race capey at the back .. Never the less it works as an over layer on top of 2 or 3 others and does have the safety stripe.. Will be using it in the grotty weather as an outer layer to keep the spray off my better stuff.. Better like Light Blue though as that is the only colour..
So is the Gore shakedry really worth £300 ? I’m looking for a new Audax rain jacket. Perhaps you could do a head to head against this one

Bought a Cycling Jacket for 10€ 12 years ago, still can't believe how well it blocks the wind and how warm it is without blocking body moisture, sadly it is getting old.

@@andyc9187 Crivit (Lidl) wore it at -18 witha T-Shirt and a pullover underneath and it was fine complete black jacket with 3 pockets on the back, a sipper on a small one on the right pocket. Would buy it again but never found it again!

That was a really fun video! Thanks! I think the breathability (if that's a word) is really important and you mentioned how hot you were getting while riding with that jacket and sweating inside it. That would be no fun on a ride and you'll be wet anyway from sweat. I think breathability comes at a premium price.

Unless you wear a cape with an elasticated hood I think you'll struggle to find a bike jacket that's 1.lightweight, 2.waterproof and 3.breathable. You can pick two.

Re proofing is KEY if you don’t do it even the best jackets will wet out when the DWR wears off.
