I really love this series because it shows what to do when your opponent doesn't make moves you prepared for. At this rating and up to a certain point, you are likely going to have to go off script and make good moves and this series is showing how to do that. Most likely the opponent getting out of theory early isn't an advantage like when a GM takes the game out of theory. In this rating it is most likely just a passive move, error, or blunder that they made getting "out of theory".
Great start to the series! The first opponent played pretty well, while the 2nd and 3rd games went just about how I'd expect for 600s lol. Can't wait for more!
For this series do you just play games and then just select the games where you were able to play the French or do you send out challenges to only play the French?

Yeah, at this level "getting out of theory" is almost always going to be a bad move.
I second that about being up in material and losing to a back rank mate. ugh i hate those and love them when I pull them off on my opponent.
