I had the pleasure of meeting Emily a year ago when she spoke at YSU. I just spoke with Dr. Wingler about my Ph.D. decision process and he had nothing but kind words to say about Emily!
about the coding, what I figured is that most of the time it's not like we hate the thing, we just don't like not being good at something and feeling stupid (it is the reason most people hate math). So when you learn it, coding becomes cool, you just have to cross that steep initial learning curve
It is a real shame to not learn coding. If you learn Python and machine learning really well along with your mathematics background, your earning potential and job prospects skyrocket. If you can solve hundreds of analysis problems in preparation for an exam...it would seem very straightforward to learn Python in a few months. LOL! Oh well...to each their own.
@@thomasbates9189 Absolutely! Also, with a background in ring and galois theory, it would be straightforward to learn cryptography and that would open up many more doors...at least in the United States.
