Cassie is full of shit. She loves to switch blame to excuse herself of her own actions. How many times did Nate give her an out when they first hooked up? He never told her he loved her as a declaration until this episode...and I bet even he is confused about that. Because, I think Cassie is the substitute for Jules that he thinks is acceptable by society of him to want. (Like father, like son).
Cassie even made the proclamation that she wanted to do better because she was tired of making stupid mistakes.
Nate, Lexi and their mother spelled it out for her at all the last confrontations she had with them. She was still trying to excuse her actions.
The whole corkscrew scene wasn't her trying to use it. She didn't leave a mark on herself. She dramatically screamed so they'd come running, cuz she just wanted sympathy and attention to flip the narrative and once again make them feel bad for her, like she's the wronged party.
The fact that she literally said out loud that no one will trust her, and cried like she's not at fault for it, just shows how much of an attention whore she is.
She had a bad deal with the whole abortion thing, but then that doesn't excuse her from not owning up to the fact that she backstabbed her best friend while gaslighting her whenever she was supposed to be giving Maddy advice about how she needed to move on and forget about Nate.
The irony about her yelling at her sister about Rue is hilarious because she is Rue in this circumstance. In order to have her way, she will wreak havoc on her friends and family just to get her attention fix.
She made the bold statement to her mother about loss of their father compared to Rue and how that's no excuse to give Rue a pass....um, HELLO?! Just like Cassie made it seem like she and Lexi never went that route when they "lost" their dad....Lexi never resorted to the behavior Cassie has, so what's her excuse there?
It's someone else's fault, but not hers?
When Nate called her, she had yet another choice to say no and use that time to work on herself and looking to make amends to Maddy, even if Maddy doesn't want to. No. Not even a hesitation or a thought to Maddy. Not even seeing the pain of anguish in her mother's eyes made her think twice. She took off.
Leslie had me crying my eyes out with that last scene. You could literally feel the desperation of her cries and pleas for help with Rue. It broke my heart, and I have no children...but she made me feel like that's how I would feel if I did.

Maddy did not deserve any of that horror freakshow. Now her plotting on doing some serious toxic mess with that video would have also ruined Jules' life as well, and would have been completely f'ed up. And just after she had that little girls night out with her and Kat. Them having a heart to heart....that would have been seriously wrong to do to Jules...all for the sake of revenge. But, how about she needs some serious therapy after all that. She claimed she could never be in love unless it was basically like a Telanovela. This was one to the extreme and she needs to find a healthier way to feel passionate about love than this hot mess. She claims she likes a good fight. No, she needs to see someone and deal with that, and her now newest trauma.
Kat just reached Cassie level of denial and pivot with blame. That was absolutely disgusting of her. You don't toy with talking about health crisis like that. That's some deep Karma waiting to bite you in the ass later. As she said...that's just sick to lie about that sort of thing. But then, I remembered she did the same thing in season one with her principal who was just trying to look after her. She tried the denial and pivot bs then, and it worked.
Nate's mother was calling spades left and right. Nate is also in a state of denial about his anger issues and who's really to blame for them. Maybe that's what season 2's whole theme is. Denial and pivot blame.
Everybody is just MESSY this season. OMG!!!
After things come to a head at the end of this season, next season will be graduation time, and they'll all have their "come to jesus" moments of clarity and hopefully growth, before being released out into the world. But lord, it's gonna get ugly before they do.

Crazy enough I have seen that whole bringing sex partners to a parent's home in black families too. Multiple at that, for longer than a week. Some parents just trifling like that and don't have healthy relationships with their kids.
Like Nate's mom, sitting up there drinking and projecting as she's trying to parent. Being black myself seeing young adults drink orjoke about sex with their parents ain't nothing new, but her bringing up therapy with a full glass in her hand made it hard to take her seriously. She made important points as far as the anger and disfunction goes.
Then there was Cassie's mom. Wildly enough, despite her obvious faults, I respected her this episode when she was telling Ms. I'm Innocent about herself. Can't go around making your choices and not expecting to face both the social consequences and personal truth of the matter. And with her walking out like she's actually grown and doing something? Gone about your life like you don't need saving from yourself then and make your mistakes since your hard headed self refuse to listen when people love you enough to tell you when you're wrong. Like Fez said, some people need to get they feelings hurt to learn a lesson.
Like Maddie, that poor child. I truly hope this time she sticks to her senses and let that relationship be over and done with because Nate needs psychiatric help and this level of lifelong trauma isn't worth it. Don't know how she's ever going to be able to trust her romantic partners again or just feel safe in her own home again without having weapons stashed around the rooms.
And lastly, speaking of rooms, I for sure thought Nate was taking Cassie to a motel to live out some kind of runaway with Jules fantasy he knew he was never going to get again, but nope. Just bringing a weak minded girl home to stay as if he don't dislike the weak mindless of his mother. But actual possessive people who use intimacy to fake treat trauma need others who will play into their foolishness at the time, which brings me back to his mom because apparently I'm not going to get over the idea of her trapping Cal. Only thing is I don't think she did it for herself to heal anything, but just grew up on that white picket fence dream that was heavily advertised back in her days and probably was taught not to/saw nothing manipulative about with early marriage/pregnancy even if it was one sided. 🤷🏾♀️
