There's a telephone right there when jock weighs after race goes to stewards,if there is blatant interference or impeding horse path, then if trainer doesn't tell jockey to object and jockey doesn't object then it's pretty much incidental contact then it's official,,, everything is video taped and reviewed immediately,,so reaching over and touching another horse or jockey is more serious than bumping a bit,,

None of the people here seem to realize neither jockey had an interest to interfere with the other at that moment in the race. It would have slowed down both. They were both trying to make a beeline for the finish line but the horses had other things in mind. Horses do tend at times to run sideways. That said, I have noticed during the race the hand reaching for the other horse. However, the video does not clearly shows what happened, and the fact that no one filed a complaint, especially since Forever Young came behind Sierra Leone, indicate that nothing really happen in the end.

What people don't understand is that without this incident of Sierra Leone bumping many times Forever Young in the straight and very badly shortly after turning for home, where FY stumbled badly, FY would have won the Kentucky Derby for Japan. The correct procedure is to put up the "I" and conduct an inquiry. If there was contact that meaningfully impeded the 11's forward progress or if Tyler touched the 11 and came into his lane on his journey in several paths, the 2 comes down and is placed 3rd. Those are the rules, and the stewards have the discretion on when to do an inquiry but this was OBVIOUS. The stewards know this. This is after the fact damage control.

All us Australians will be remembering the late great jockey Mel Schumacher who passed away in March this year. In the 1961 Australian Derby he got banned for life for reaching down and pulling the leg of the opposing jockey for 50 yards going to win in a very tight finish. The ban was later changed to five years and Mel got to resume his impressive career. In some ways the incident marked the end of an era in Australian racing as it was the first time Stewards disqualified a jockey using the new front-on footage available.

Sierra Leone is a horse known to drift left during a race. The jockey knew it would happen. Rather than try to counter it, he allowed it to happen repeatedly, knocking into Forever Young. If that wasn't bad enough he reaches over with his whip on Forever Young? People saw it that day! Why wasn't it dealt with immediately? This not only probably cost Forever Young 2nd place, it might also have cost him the win! Unbelievable.
By the way, I bet on Sierra Leone to win. But I am apalled at the tactics used.

So people sometimes horses naturally bump into each other because multiple issues, jockey, habits, soreness, and also nothing goes perfectly straight,in regards to Tyler reaching over and touching horse or other jockey I think that's totally uncalled for Tyler is a seriously good winning jockey,, but maybe it's retaliation for something including bumping,,,but no objections or inquiries, then maybe stewards can inquire to conduct between the two involved and make a decision,as far as disqualification there's really no infraction,,, especially if jock or trainer did not object,,,so is it playing dirty??? maybe, but no different result so nothing there except maybe unsafe riding on both jocks or Tyler ,,, entirely up to jock, trainer and stewards,,,

When they are squeezed so close together the jockeys can hang up on each others' stirrups. If the arm out gave them both space it would've been better for both of them. They aren't supposed to slug each other, pull each others' feet out, grab reins or push each other off as in days of yore. But if Tyler thought he was hanging up or perhaps even WAS hanging up he was within his rights. Interestingly, in this same KD race there was an example of sportsmanship I saw and was very impressed. When Dan moves up the rail after the half it's a tight space between Track Phantom and the rail. Joel had his whip in his inside hand but avoided clipping Brian with his elbow or crowding/blocking him. Kudos to Joel Rosario. That's the way it's supposed to work.

Bullshit Tyler Gafflione did nothing wrong Watch the video from a front view of the 2 horses you can plainly see the Japanese jockey drifted over first and was bumbing Sierra Leone like crazy n all Tyler was trying to do is keep Forever young away from Sierra Leone so Tyler just reached over n push. Horse away so Tyler could use his left hand with the crop but he couldn't because Japanese horse n jockey kept going into Sierra Leone like 3 times so if anybody should be penalized it should be the Japanese jockey on Forever young or just leave it alone Sierra Leone is the best Horse if there wasn't any bumbing he wins the race easy Mystic Dan tired would of lost probably been 3rd place So You people arent very bright and need glasses

I have to disagree with you on your glasses: Sierra Leone lugged in in the Bluegrass Stakes too in fact he never switched to his right lead till he got to the 8th pole but the Forever Young horse bothered him at the head of the stretch I think the Jock lost his whip but Tyler Gaffigan should never HAVE had his hand or whip on the other horse no matter what happens he pulled the same crap with Maximum Security

@@frankdeangelo6327 well you might think he's great but I've never forgiven him for what he did to Maximum Security and what the stewards at Churchill did to that horse you have only got the Churchill Downs version ( pull up the Ann Oldfather's version for the Wests Court battle) you don't look at things with the full spectrum your eyeglasses need adjustment and I don't know about him making the Belmont course a mile and a half he's got something wrong with his assend that's why he keeps lugging in you can see it in the post parade for the Derby that's why Chad Brown is so good on the turf horses with assend problems can only run on the turf.... give me a break now you got me pissed off!!!
