I'm having trouble finding out if I should get a tegu or ackie. But this is what I would like from a pet. -A curious lizard that always interacts and loves hanging out with their owner -Something I can take outside and "walk" -An opportunistic eater -Into humans at times so interacting is fun Tbh, interaction is the favourite category into owning a tegu or ackie
IMO videos like this are important. Care guides frequently don't really take into consideration how much joy you will get out of the reptile in relation to the care you put in. Adam frequently critiques the notion of beardies not being beginner reptiles (correctly, IMO) but even he realizes that the enjoyment received out of them FAR outweighs the care put in...and corrected this on his channel. Ackies seems to be off the charts in terms of being fun to watch and fun to interact with, in relation to the set up and care. They are not like keeping something like an Emerald Boa or a Tokay Gecko, which are not particularly interactive
It all comes down to what you want out of a pet reptile and what excites you. Some love colors, some love intelligence, some love their handability. I like what you said about these videos being important! We all get into the hobby because of the fun working with these guys!
Been kind of MIA lately but I must say I love the hair and the way you’ve been doing your videos lately and video quality have much improved! Hope all is well with the new baby
Thanks for making a video like this! I really like hearing about what it's like to actually own these guys aside from the standard care stuff. I think you might have convinced me to get an Ackie! Can you do a video like this for Tegus too?
I want at least one, hopefully in the next 5 years. Shooting for that because I have a son that will turn 4 in november and I know he will want to get in on play time but he can get really excited and forget to move slow and stay calm(while socializing this would be soooo important) also I want to build the cage they way I want and take real time into making it the way I want and the way future family member needs. In conclusion....I can not freakin wait to get one but I have to and I'm super jealous of you. 🤔🤓🤩
A question about ackies that I want to ask about co habbing, do you have to? Is it like sugar gliders that get depressed when alone or are they perfectly fine?
Professor Herp oh great! I have my baby ackie now but I was concerned that maybe it would be lonely for him but it’s good knowing I’m doing what I should be
Very cool little reptile! Didn’t know much about them until watching your videos. How many Ackies can you keep it when enclosure? Obviously it is decided by the size of the enclosure I’m assuming
Best thing I heard was the poop thing use to own a bearded dragon and use to hate it when it went number 2 always had to wash them cus poop got stuck on his tail and use to also stink up the whole room
Whichever one you are more passionate about is the best reptile to go for. More you care about that reptile and its species, the more work you'll put into its care :)
I just have a few questions. We have 2 sets of ackies and we have separated them, but now 2 of them are acting funny. They are constantly hiding now and when they do come out to eat they are sneezing and its like they are gasping for air? Any idea what is going on. We raised the humanity in there cages.
not sure could be many things. Specifically, when you move an Ackie to an unfamiliar environment they will probably hide more for the first week or so.
Looking forward to seeing all of this in our Ackie. We've only had him for a week. He's just a baby but still cool to watch!
They tend to be really tone down in their personality when babies. Much more about survival. Not that they aren't fun at that age though!

Ackies would probably be difficult to walk and can be super fast. Tegus definitely can do all that though!
@@ProfessorHerp thanks!
I got both last Saturday

Thank you so much for all your videos. They are very informative! I have a baby Ackie and I am so in love.
Hope they help!

Thanks Sly! Glad you like where the channel is going. Baby is doing good!
I'm a fantastic pooper too.

Tegu video coming soon! Glad you enjoyed
That is to cute my Ackie sleeps like a dog all curled up
I'll be getting my baby yellow ackie in 4 days. Pumped.
Sweet! Let me know how things go the first few weeks!

haha! To bad I just had a clutch hatch ;)
Picking my first Ackie up on saturday. Really excited. Great video👍
Good luck!
Ackies are the ferrets of the reptile world 🥰
My blue tongue skink does dirt heads too lol its really cute
G D my blue tongue skink does that too
Aw I wanna see pics! :(
Professor Herp I have a Herman’s tortoise he dose this to
A question about ackies that I want to ask about co habbing, do you have to? Is it like sugar gliders that get depressed when alone or are they perfectly fine?
I would recommend not cohabbing unless you have some Ackie experience
Professor Herp oh great! I have my baby ackie now but I was concerned that maybe it would be lonely for him but it’s good knowing I’m doing what I should be
great video! I love my Ackie, hoping to get him a buddy to cohab as soon as I find a female or two...
Great video! These videos are so great! Can’t wait for the next one!👍
Tegu one coming soon!
She is so cute and funny I have a akie myself to my akie name is spike and he has a attitude he bites my finger and hissed at me and tail whips me
Spike has quite a personality!

Ok so i watched you’re other video and got my answer! Thanks !
At most a trio (1 male 2 females). Never more than 1 male. Always have an empty, proper standby enclosure incase of fighting.
Best thing I heard was the poop thing use to own a bearded dragon and use to hate it when it went number 2 always had to wash them cus poop got stuck on his tail and use to also stink up the whole room
I feel this so much
can you do a video on care, and setup on them???

How to teach Max to greet you when you open the door professer herp?
haha what you mean
@@ProfessorHerp when you open the door, Max runs to you and greets you. How'd you do that?! That's genuis!
@@blazetube1164 oh haha. She doesn't always. Just when she wants to run around. My Ackies always greet me though!
@@ProfessorHerp Very nice!!! Also, does Dell like HP? 😂😂😂
@@blazetube1164 oh looks like we got a comedian here! haha
Great video! One of your best
Thanks for the feedback Brandon!
I do one day plan to own a savanna monitor but do you think that a ackie monitor would be a good starter to prepare for a much bigger one?
Whichever one you are more passionate about is the best reptile to go for. More you care about that reptile and its species, the more work you'll put into its care :)
I'd love to own one. My dream to own a Tegu faded since I'm from Florida but i guess I'll make use of a 8'x4' enclosure in the future
Sorry to hear. FL stinks for reptile keepers now

I just bought my first ackie! Will my ackie ever just be able to sit on me without just taking off?
Depends on their individual personality but with work towards taming your new bud he/she definitely could be chilling with you at some point!
What kind of plants do you use for a bio active ackie enclosure?
not sure yet. Something hardy. Experimenting on such soon.
@@ProfessorHerp would love to see that!
@@XD3blaze will share when I do!
What enclosure do you use for the ackies
Adults are all 6x2.5x4'. Two are DIY wood enclosures, two are AP PVC enclosures.
I'm gonna be owning an ackie in the near future any tip on what size tank to get to accommodate when they reach they're full adult size
Not sure exactly what you are asking (did you mean while not when?). I would recommend no less than an enclosure size of 5'x2.5'x3'
I meant like just to get it then and there so as to not have to buy the appropriate size later as it reaches its adult size
@@martingutierrez5570 nothing less than 5x2.5x3'
@@ProfessorHerp thank you also are ackies good candidates for harness training
I’m getting a 6x3x2ft Vivarium and I was wondering if a 46in 12% uvb tube would be ok
the 46" would be ideal (you want roughly 2/3rds the length of the enclosure). For 12% no closer than 12" from the reptiles back
Professor Herp should I put in a ceramic heater for nighttime my room gets very cold at night and I wouldn’t want the enclosure getting too cold
@@nathanbowen6744 how cold?
Professor Herp 17 Celsius
To be honest working professionally as a reptile keeper. The worst poop I even came across is from Komodo's
I will probably never know that smell haha
I have 7 reptiles in my bed room
im wanting to get one but my perants are doubting
I’m consider to own a ackie I was just wondering what’s the smallest enclosure they can be in
I would always strive to give them the biggest enclosure you can. At minimum I would say 5'x2.5'x3'
Very well done video
Are you expecting any baby a ackies this year??
yes, early to mid September
How could I convince my parents 🤔
educate and compromise!
How do I stop my akie from biting me on my finger
try approach more slowly, not over their head, let Spike come to you if possible :)
