Thank you so very much for this video. I had been having scapular pain and nerve irritation post rotator cuff surgery for the past 7 months. My original surgeon and a second opinion doc both only had cortisone injections to offer and never once suggested that my problem could be caused by entrapment of the suprascapular nerve. I tried this exercise and almost immediately I got relief. This was the answer to my prayers because I had found a doctor in Indiana that surgically treated this issue and having surgery again was the last thing I wanted. The sad news is that neither doctor I saw locally recognized this. Wonder how many other people are suffering unnecessarily.
This seems to relieve shoulder pain for me. Full disclosure: I also stopped swimming and using weights, and had physiotherapy, but I was still left with a residual pain. I started doing this exercise fairly regularly and it went away. Very, very pleased to have seen this video.
This works immediately after the 3rd rep. 😭😭😭 Thank you very much. Please make a video about tight neck and chest muscles and bad posture and how to fix it.
Austin Willson Hi Austin, for the posture improvement here’s what I’ve learned from parents with good posture: 1) squeeze shoulder blades together, hold 5 seconds (10 reps - 3 times, 3!times a day); 2) stand with back against a wall (same reps as above) 3) do overhead reaches 4) laying face down on a mat, bring arms up and hold.
Carrying heavy backpacks really gave my shoulder, arm and scapular pain for years. I did'nt know it was these two veins, thought it was a damaged AC joint and no doctors ever told me so after seeing several of them through the years. I no longer neverwear/use a backpack to carry anything. My shoulder is much better and healing slowly and should take a few months to maybe a year to get back to normal. I am doing this excercise also and it is helping, and with shoulder and back massages, and hot showers. I feel better now. Word of advice, never wear backpacks.
I damaged my rotator cuff a year ago trying to start an old lawn mower and the doctors wanted me to take a ton of anti-inflammatants along with muscle relaxants (which I refused). Then I was told I needed surgery (Refused). However, I just did these exercises and I can truly say that the pain I've been feeling has lessened quite a bit and I will incorporate these with my daily workout. I can't thank you enough for sharing this information that really works. :-)
Hello guys. I am from Brisbane. Thank you for this content. I can attest that this video helped me alleviate my upper left back pain. Ive just done 15 reps and my pain is gone! Theres still a bit tingling sensation but it feels way better now.
This is very helpful, at first I could barely do this movement so I started out very slowly, it is helping me and I will continue to watch your videos Thank you
Such a great explanation with illustration. (I was searching for the neck flossing but stopped at this one!) Watching this multiple times to absorb the anatomy & mechanics of the scapula. This is like turning the corner in recovery from adhesive capsulitis in my shoulder. (I must mention that basketball players extend their arms a great deal!) Thank you for your channel!!
Thanks! I did this exercise once and it already helped when I had been in pain for several weeks. I'll repeat it because, since I had a full acromioclavicular separation on the other shoulder from an accident, the last thing I need is to have another messed up shoulder.
Excellent info and thank you. Though I visit my holistic Chiropractor every month, practice yoga and stretch every day, lately I have noticed shoulder and arm aches. These exercises have helped so much. Added them to my morning routine and will mention to my Dr. also.
Didn't even take a week. SO happy I found this video! Holy crap. I've had an impingement of some kind that has been causing pain in my shoulders and arms. This stretch brought almost immediate relief. Continuing to get better everyday!!! Thank you.
Hey guys..wow..with that flossing technique i was able to raise my arm with much less pain than before...geez..i searched all over for information...thanks to you guys I found such an easy exercise that worked after trying about 10 other exercises!!! GREAT VIDEO!!
Amazing Thank you so much for this video . I just went for and assessment because I couldn’t external rotate shoulder at 90 abduction, no limitations functionally except small decrease of internal rotation . After my pt try to release sub scapularis, ,Increase internal rotation and release myofascia of sub spinatus and infra , nothing change 😢 Today after watching your video and realize that I forgot about this nerf and I do also have symptômes as you describ . Tried the exercises , after only 2sets of 10 x , I could externally rotate at 90 and could abduct arm up at 90 with palm down things I couldn’t be able to do since 3 weeks . Wow !!! Thank you so much . It also teach me that I have always to think of the pathodynamic of the nerf !!!
Thanks for putting this content on YT? I've been treated for some T.O.S symptoms, and levator scapulae insertion area on the left side? I feel this are the most when sidelying in bed with head 's left side down on pillow? Which nerve flossing protocol would be best to experiment with please? Thanks,!
Hi The-Body-Tech: You might want to check the two part blog I wrote on TOS. Research shows that the Ulnar nerve is most common nerve involved. Cheers! - Part One www.motionspecificrelease.com/post/resolving-thoracic-outlet-syndrome-tos-part-1, Part Two www.motionspecificrelease.com/post/resolving-thoracic-outlet-syndrome-tos-part-2
Do you have assessments for these nerves? How does one know if the nerve is problematic? Muscle testing?? Some of the muscle testing can be tricky especially in the spine at certain segments.
Good question! Obviously history and physical examination could help establish a WORKING DIAGNOSIS of entrapment neuropathy. Shoulder/arm weakness, Radiating pain to the neck, back or arm, increased pain with movement, loss shoulder function, muscle atrophy etc. But it's still going to be a working diagnosis and not definitive. In some cases we work with physicians in a multi-disciplinary environment where MRI is available. This can help with assessing soft tissue causes of entrapment, but not always. Cheers
I tried this, but unfortunately, there is too much pain with lifting my left arm (which is the RC side) up over my head - are there any variations of the exercise that could help?
Thank you for your feedback, @ceebee0766. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing pain during the exercise. It's imperative to avoid any movements that provoke pain, as this could indicate that the exercise is not being performed correctly or that it's not appropriate for your specific condition. While I can't provide personalized exercise modifications without a proper examination, I encourage you to seek out a physical examination from a healthcare provider. They can assess your movement, provide a diagnosis, and recommend exercises that are safe and effective for your unique situation. Wishing you all the best!
Hi Emelia: Every case is different, I would recommend seeing a practitioner who is trained in nerve entrapment and see if this exercise is appropriate. That is why we cannot make recommendations on individual cases with doing an examination. Cheers
Hi @lanierharper9793, I appreciate your comment and concern about not feeling a stretch during the suprascapular nerve flossing exercise. It's worth noting that these types of exercises can indeed feel very subtle. Nerve flossing and gliding exercises are designed to mobilize and gently stretch the nerves, aiding in the movement of the nerve through its surrounding sheath and helping to improve nerve function. This may assist in alleviating nerve discomfort and promote overall nerve health. The sensations may be much less noticeable compared to stretching a muscle. However, without performing a physical examination, I cannot fully assess why you might not be feeling anything during the exercise. It could be a matter of technique or personal anatomy. If you continue to feel that the exercise is not beneficial, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider or physical therapist who can evaluate your specific situation and guide you through the exercise in person. Thank you for watching, and I hope this clarifies your concern!
Thanks for your helpful video. Nice to see someone give back without charging money. This is VERY helpful. I hope your Practice is blessed 10X's over.
This is brilliant, my shoulder is improving hugely after just a few days doing this (after years of pain) thank you!

hi there, how are you doing? i probably have the same problem and just wonder. Is it better after 4 years?

relieving my arm/shoulder pain. Thanks!
Sorcery! Seriously, thank you, this is such a helpful exercise and brings instant relief. I will be working this into my rehab protocols.

thank you. very very helpful video this one.
excellent in love with your team victory to you dear sir
Any flossing for DORSAL scapular nerve? Thanks! Others are great.
It's on our list of videos to produce. Thanks for watching!

What if the nerve pain is caused by the nerve already being stretched or damaged, couldn't this make things worse
Hi Emelia: Every case is different, I would recommend seeing a practitioner who is trained in nerve entrapment and see if this exercise is appropriate. That is why we cannot make recommendations on individual cases with doing an examination. Cheers
It doesn't feel like this exercise is doing anything at all for me. I'm just moving my arm. I don't feel any stretch.

I can’t do this flossing because I can’t abduct my arm past shoulder height. My arm is very weak. But no pain.
Sounds like you need to get it checked out. Cheers!
Do you have recommendations for people coming from rotator cuff surgery ? I can’t get left arm high like that (apparently a year to properly heal).
Every case is so different, I would recommend going with your surgeons/physios advice.
