I had one of these mine had the prodrive performance pack from factory and the dccd control also was the wide track version amazing car performance and handling
The lack of turbo-lag comes from the twin scroll turbo. Fantastic engineering allows the turbo to pick up low in the revs, and still give power all the way up to the top of the revs. Matches the engine pulses much better than a single scroll.
BMWs use them in their cars and especially its why the diesels are so good to drive, 220bhp off a 2.0 s1 with 480nm its perfect daily for 99% of people
I had a 2003 standard 2.0 JDM Sti in silver with gold wheels (which I changed). Bob Rawle remapped it to about 330hp running 98 octane petrol, always put a big smile on my face. Enjoy while you have it.

I had a 2001 2.0 wrx that I installed Sti parts on (down pipe, intercooler, vf34 turbo, 3 port bscv remap etc) took it to 315bhp, that was so much fun but needed something bigger. So then sold that and got a 2006 SG9 forester 2.5Sti, again upgraded the turbo from a hatch Sti (think it was a vf48) uprated fuel pump and air filter with exhaust a sports cat and remap, taking that to 400/400. Easily the best damn car I’ve owned and one that I wish I had never sold. I actually sold that for more than I paid for it 2 years and 20k miles later!.
Great video never seen the ice blasting before would like to know what it cost. Also had a Subaru back in the past this absolutely looks lovely. Great example you’ve done some great work to it. Definitely would love to win this.
On VW's boxer engines, the latest being the Type 25 in the UK (aka T3 & Vanagon) the ticking sound would happen when the engine hadn't been ran for a while, due to the hydraulic lifters draining oil; after a good drive the noise would go. So here with the EJ engines, they also have hydraulic lifters, so I suspect the oil was changed, along with timing belt kit and then tuned, hence no further ticking sound later on in the video 👍🏻👌 Cheers Dean, love your work, even when out of your comfort zone 😊
I found that quite weird, owned a gc8 ver.4 WRX for 13 years with a 5 speed and my ultimate goal was the sti 6 speed box and axle. This should have come with a 6 speed oem and the single reason for a change would be a cheap repair from a breaker afaik...
Great channel! I had an identical colour sti but an uk 05 plate widetrack ppp, loved the big rev counter staring back at you but the jdm cars were just better everywhere. Sold it for an e46 m3.. the sti would be worth a few ££ now
I'd say the previous owner thought the engine was rod knocking and toasted (that ticking sound). I was surprised when it was sorted without a short block. Did they tell you what the tick was? Should be a six speed in that one also. Almost All STIs of that era were. Look for the pull ring under the gear knob for reverse. Worth checking for a DCCD with the plug going to the dif.
Fantastic to see a Subaru on the channel. The car looks to be in great condition, especially since the all the work has been completed. It should definitely have a 6 speed gearbox. The 5 speed will destroy itself with that power level!
I have an Impreza wagon, which I daily drive. Its been reliable, and reasonably cheap to maintain. Love it, but mine is a base model, and no turbo. Ive already got my tickets for this one. Would be a nice addition to the fleet.
I like how you did the math, Something most car channels don't even tell you. If the compression numbers and the drive train were cherry then 15k is proper for an old sti in my book. I picked up my rsti for 12k fully swapped. Now these go for 15 on the low end I think.
The beeping in reverse is a JDM thing the control box with bleeper is by the steering column under the cover, i opened mine up and use hot glue over the little speaker to quiet it down. Also it should have a 6 speed box much stronger than 5, JDM versions also have closer ratio box with faster 0-60 , with that wrx gearbox does the DCCD still work or even there as that was another STi feature allows you to split power front/rear upto 70% to rear, I didnt see the DCCD lit up in rev counter as should show Auto or manual setting
Still have my T25, had to forge the engine by S4Y, new twin-scroll turbo - hand built by Owen developments, got rid of the suspension setup, N/S/R kept leaking after having it rebuilt for £1K in 2010. AST have their place but not on my car! Abuses most things on the road😁 Had to fit AP Racing brakes on the front after cooking them at a track day. Original spec, engine came with a 2.5 block. heads were changed to a 2.0L, generic map was made then dropped into all of the T25's, using EcuTek. 440cc injectors iirc Miltek exhaust with a resonator, a 200 cell sports cat. Mine needs Ice Blasting, will look them up after Christmas.
need to get an engine flush in that and drive it normal/softly for about an hour then replace the oil and filter with correct oil.....might get lucky othe than that 100% tappet ie engine out
I remember these being announced. It’s a hell of a lot of car for the money, even with the restoration cost. Based on the superior Japanese car, I think Spec C. Cosworth rebuilt engine, Miltek exhaust. Bargain!

My Mrs says I’ve been going backwards our whole married life Dean and I don’t BEEP normally 😂, so not surprised you didn’t realise the reverse BEEPING 😁. Beautiful car and great recommissioning 👌🏻
What a machine! Glad you brought it back to life :) Buying 10+ tickets for this one. I need one back in my life
