I love Childhood's End. I find it sad that a lot of Clarke's works gets forgotten. This is a really good story, that has had so much influence. The opening scene from the movie Independence Day was based on the arrival of the Overlords. It's influence is seen in games like Square's Xenogears. This is one of my favorite books by Clarke. I read it in the early 2000ths. It definitely had a influence on me and brought a lot of interest ideas to mind. The other work I want to read by Clarke soon is The Songs of Distant Earth. That been on my tbr for a while now.

You must read The Songs of Distant Earth (if you've not already done so by now...) it's an incredibly touching read that opens as many questions as Childhoods End. Various sources claim TSODE was Clarkes favourite (in the same way that various other sources claim that CE was his fav too). TSODE was also based on a short story from the 50's re-written in the 80's - I read around 1990 and was blown away. I read at the same time as Rendezvous With Rama and The Fountains of Paradise in a bit of a Clarke "phase". What constantly amazes me about him was his ability to write massively compelling stories without the need to have any villains - he's without doubt one of my very favourite authors who I revisit every few years with joy :)

@@ssstbc I haven't actually gotten around to reading TSODE yet. It was hard to come by for quite a few months. I was able to order it a month or 2 ago. I'm hoping to get to it soon. I'm excited to finally read it!!

The only thing I know about this book is that it inspired the cover of the 1974 album Houses of the Holy from Led Zeppelin ...go figure!

How about a top 10 of your fav books?

That's not a bad idea. I was thinking of putting together my own Appendix N for works that influenced me and what my [personal collection of horror short stories would include. A top ten novels would make sense too!

Too much repetition ... No analysis ... I stopped watching at the 4/5 minute mark.

I've listened to this guy babble on for almost FIVE MINUTES with hardly a mention of Childhoods End. I'm done.
