  • Grandfather Mountain Hike, Grandfather Trail to Attic Window Peak. This trail starts at the Grandfather Mountain Swinging Bridge Visitor Center Parking lot. Hope this video gives the viewer a sense of how spectacular and rugged this trail is. Multiple cable assist and ladder climbs up the sheer cliffs along the ridgeline, passing MacRae Peak, then climbing the steep, rock scramble, 'The Chute', to the top of Attic Window Peak. Even experienced hikers should allow double their normal hiking time for the distance on this trail. #grandfathermountain #hiking #mountains #trailrunning #trail #trailadventure

Thanks for the video! A friendly reminder to all, hiker etiquette is to let uphill have the right of way. It truly is all about momentum and rhythm. ❤

I like to think it's the opposite. Let them come down and give the people going up a rest

Three of us hiked this trail back in October 2003, but never made it to the top of Attic Window. Definitely the most rugged trail I have ever been on.

1980’s my scout troop got trapped up there during a very bad thunderstorm with hail! We always started at the Scotchman store hiked to the bridge. Yes! There was nothing there back 40 years ago

From the parking lot to the top of the ladders. How long does that take? To get back to the parking lot, do you need to go back down the ladders?

Takes me about 40 minutes to MacCrae Peak, just under 1 mile. That’s the destination point beyond the top of the ladders. I hike very fast, For seasoned hikers, allow at least an hour, give or take depending on your fitness. Can avoid the ladders on return by using the Underwood Trail, only one ladder, but very rugged. Would allow even more time with that route to return.

Good video…and I like purism, but no need for the respiratory volume. It’s understood that it’s a steep climb.
