    I love that even when accepting the accolade of a lifetime, Dave pays respect to the genius Norm.

      I just checked on Dikembe Mutombo, and it turns out he died this year, 2024, sadly, before achieving that coveted pinnacle of all NBA players: the Mark Twain prize. May he rest in peace and hopefully receive one post-humously.

    PERFECT delivery
    PERFECT wording
    PERFECTION
    I miss Norm MacDonald
    What a loss!
    Triple-jabbed Gilbert Gottfried, who died of a “heart condition,” is another huge missing piece in the world of funny
    Who is as good as Norm MacDonald?
    I will pray for America. Please pray for me. God Bless you.

    Edited Norm is still funnier than half the shitty comedians these days.

  • @doveshouse
    @doveshouse 7 лет назад +29

    I would love to know what they edited.. He definately said more. Norm is absolutely the best... Such a well crafted percise Norm joke... The stand-out in the entire show. And it was clean too! Not that it would bother me either way... But to create a bit that is so funny without it being dirty in any way... Unreal. I can't say enough great thing about Norm

    • @doveshouse
      @doveshouse 7 лет назад +14

      It really is amazing that norm can project the punch-line mid way through the joke... Where you go "oh i get it... I see where he's going here" almost having the effect like "ok i'm not going to expect much more from this bit" and the he continues and you find yourself laughing even harder. It truly is an art. So damn smart... And there are people out there that just miss that about him... They don't see it... I'm just happy i can fully appreciate it.

    butchered by the producers into meaninglessness - see Norm's tweets on it. Would love to see the full bit, despite the ridiculous editing you can still tell the crowd were really enjoying it

      ever since that asshole NBC executive called up Lorne Michaels, and demanded Norm be replaced as the anchor of Weekend Update, Norm has been getting f***ed over.

      2packs4sure what happened?

    • @2packs4sure
      @2packs4sure 7 лет назад +11

      Norm tweeted that they sledgehammer edited his bit on the show and ruined it.
      Sledgehammer is my word but the bottom line is they cut and fouled up his segment and Norm ain't happy.
      You know, when Norm is ramblin' his way to the pay off you need to just let him get there, that's a HUGE part of the fun.
      They didn't and don't understand that no matter what it sounds like, Norm has ALREADY crafted, edited, and honed it.
      They cut Al Franken (I heard) due to the scandal so they should have had time to let Norm run his course.
      I had planned to watch it but knowing what I now know I'll pass.
      Maybe in a year or two.

    • @shmookins
      @shmookins 7 лет назад +2

      Then I don't think there is a full cut since this is the main (and only?) recording of the show. Dammit.

      I assumed this was the edited as broadcast version,,,, NOW,,, if someone posted the unedited version I'd defininatley watch it.
      Wow, this NEW youtube thing where I can't look at the entire comment makes it impossibble to spell check.

    Kimmel, Amy Schumer, the other guy... what varying levels of disappointment... half of their speech was self aggrandizing and the other a nervous wreckage nevertheless all of them were given 6-10 minutes. Norm Macdonald here's one of the greatest standup comedians in this generation given only a 2 minute space and viciously edited by imbeciles who obviously don't understand his brand of humor. For Christ sake Letterman had him as the last stand-up on his show which will always be memorable. You don't need to have two functional frontal lobes to realize that when awarding David Letterman the Mark Twain award, Norm Macdonald is your guy!

    • @adamdesanti6713
      @adamdesanti6713 Месяц назад

      100% spot on. I'll add that it seems that those who have the favour of the modern-day Beast get pushed, and bigger talents that do not, are not. Case in point, there are two humourists, Martin Short (Dave himself says this during his role-call with the poster) and Conan O'Brien, that should have been awarded this award _years_ ago due to decades or work both of substantial variety and quality, in numerous different media, over a half dozen names off the top of my head that, while funny, are _far_ less deserving. So, like the editing of this program, it is not done on merit.
