    Yes.... 6 years ago things were different.... but now the algorithm is very specific and you literally have to push to the same audience over and over again.... if you create a different video, you get punished right away... I see it with my channel very clearly

    It would be interesting to see a chart from RUclips on how many people are creating content vs how many are making money and the subset of people who are actually making serious money. While everyone may have a dream to make money as a content creator I suspect the percentage of people who make money is smaller than we would believe. This will be a hobby at best for me. I am OK with this and will continue to create for fun, self improvement and influencing the small audience which do watch my videos.

    • @PawFromTheBroons
      @PawFromTheBroons 5 месяцев назад +2

      This study has been done, and published, multiple times over.
      It's almost a yearly publication, really.

    • @Jeffswildlifeadventures
      @Jeffswildlifeadventures 5 месяцев назад

      @@PawFromTheBroons just spent some time researching this and it looks like between 5% and 8% make any money at all. In addition the RUclips pay ranges from $4 to $15 per 1000 views which means you need to generate a ton of good content and have other ways to make money. This is why I believe there are an increasing number of channels which imbed "advertisement/endorsements" in their content as RUclips seems to be more the platform but as Sean outlines you need to have a business plan which generates income from other sources to make this work financially as a job. Luckily I am retired so I don't have to make money, its just a fun hobby - although I would love to make some money.

    • @seankitching
      @seankitching  5 месяцев назад +2

      This is super interesting actually! Yeah money from youtube alone would be very difficult to sustain a career. I feel like I get a fair amount of views per month and Adsense money wouldn't cover anything really. I also see a lot of channels including my own getting less than $4 cpm and $15 would pretty much only be for finance channels. Building a brand and multiple revenue streams is essential :)

  • @AgingOnYourTerms
    @AgingOnYourTerms 5 месяцев назад +4

    When this introvert was told that I needed to turn my stories into videos for RUclips, I reluctantly did so just because I was asked. My niche isn't sexy. I never thought of it as a money generator. I just hoped it would help people. Even with that goal, all of your advice is on point to help grow the channel to try to help more people.

    Great video! I'm curious your thoughts on people like Niklas Christl who teach that you shouldn't niche too much since that limits your content and who you are. He says you should be the niche yourself and make videos about yourself in various ways (he does some filmmaking, some self improvement and running marathons or fitness too) His content is all over the place but because its about his journey he says "instead of focusing on a topic you focus on yourself and you can make videos about whatever you want"
    Obviously both avenues have worked for various people (and technically his thing is niching too in a way), but my question is how do you think this relates to building an 'advertisable' brand to companies and making yourself profitable from solely a business sense.

    • @seankitching
      @seankitching  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah its a super good point. I do think that you need to focus in a general area though unless your content is purely focus on you being you. In my opinion focusing on a broad area but making yourself the unique aspect, or "niche" is the way to go. Even with someone like him, his content and channel definitely have a cohesive general niche. He wouldn't post some video of him learning fishing or becoming a knitting expert haha

    One of my biggest early mistakes was using audio I couldn't monetize. If you ever get monetized those videos have to be redone to make money on them. I use epidemic sound, but there are others, and it gives you way more to choose from than youtube's audio. It also applies to my monetized content on Facebook & Instagram. Unfortunately not Tiktok. they're not with it yet, drives me crazy..

    I have been trying to implement most of the things you talked about for quite some time, although I need to improve my efficiency. Just a question if you don't mind: are you a solo creator or you already have a team? For me, I'm just thinking... I started my channel as a solo creator project (as probably many people start) and doing everything alone gives me the feel of freedom, although I know that having other people working with me will make me more organised, but, somehow, the idea of getting others onboard gives me the feel that I'll somehow loose that freedom. I don't know if I'm explaining that correctly but, let's say a painter just wants to paint. He starts painting all his ideas - landscapes, still life and so on - and at some point he has to get others help him with the painting process. How do you keep that feeling when you have to have at some point a team? Thanks for your insights 🙏😊

      Im happy to say I am a completely solo creator :) I have had some video editors along the way for less than 5% of my journey. I think its an interesting one, I have the same thing where I like to do everything myself but it becomes so much work. A lot of it being tedious work that isn't creative or anything. Even with my editors I have had they do the first 70% of the edit and I finish them to the way I want them. I will say, having help actually creates more freedom, because instead of waisting your time on non creative back end stuff you can free up time to focus on the areas you do care about.

    My niche is what we do for our business. Real Estate. So it became straightforward for us to do. (ok for me - one person team hihihi) I have been doing (and I did not want) videos of properties - because of all the work involved in doing a good video, but when I understood what I could do with this channel, it was a game changer; I am posting almost 3 times a week, I am getting better at editing, but I don't tell a story - at least not at the moment. I am experimenting a lot with videos, the thumbnails, the music, and talking versus not talking in the videos; I am not in my latest videos in any Arolls, doing nothing but Brolls at the moment. (a bit faceless) I will begin to do more videos with my face and talking. Also, I think I am going to start experimenting with my face in the thumbnail ( I am not famous, I don't want to be). I tell you guys, all I want to do is videos of real estate, that is all I want to do now, I don't even want to sell the properties anymore, I just want to do videos. am I crazy?

    I do enjoy watching your videos and you give some great advice. For me it is more like a hobby doing airline and lounge reviews now when I am retired but it is quite annoying that I am not monetized yet when some of the videos gets between 6 to 45 thousand views. One little tip of advice from my side is to listen to your customers, pose the question, “what can I do to make my videos even better?”
    In my case I wanted to get bang for my bucks for my subscription at Artlist and I had way to much music in my vids, or as one of my subscribers elegantly put it, “we dont want that f#%&#”& music, we want to hear the engines roar and feel the ambience on board!”

    Getting the first 1,000 subscribers was really hard, especially because I actually do everything wrong on RUclips 😂 no regular videos, no special content, etc. But filmmaking is my passion 😍 best cinematic greetings from 🇩🇪

      Yeah definitely the hardest 1000 is the first 1000. Glad to hear you pulled it off though! Hope you keep going!

    Good insights but the light behind you is a distraction.

    Great tips as always!🫶🏼 I am still learning and I am also thankful for the feedback my viewers give us. It is hard to niche down with a common vlogg, but I try to keep a few topics and projects in playlists that we are passionate about and want to share/inspire.☺️

      Thank you! Definitely with a vlog style channel I think you become a bit of the niche. People that resonate with you are generally interested in what you are doing. Definitely helps to have an area of content though to build that initial audience
