    Let's not forget the fact that Michelangelo got so pissed at the Ceremonial master Biagioi for saying "that's too much nudity", so he painted him into the Sistine chapel, naked with a snake biting his balls. And he also painted God basically mooning the churchgoers for lols. He was a great artist, yes. But he was also memelord of his time.

    The words attributed to Michelangelo that are my favorite are: "If people knew how much work went into it, they wouldn't call it genius". This sums up everything. To me, it's even more impressive than if he had produced all these masterpieces easily, by a simple stroke of genius.

    • @spine_skull
      @spine_skull Месяц назад +55

      no such thing as a simple stroke of genius actually
      more of an insatiable desire to relentlessly improve no matter what from an early age

      @@spine_skull This, exactly this. I describe it more vividly in my post. Improve, I think is not the purpose however. Improvement was natural step from what actually was the aim. Improvement implied a goal towards something like, ostentatiousness which I don't believe judging from his notes and notes of other master artists is really the goal. If he liked his art, I really doubt, he gave 5 shits about what other thought. Others liking it is a happy bonus, that his happiness is shared. Its made even grander that other can reveal in his happiness . Case in point, @amanda7913's comment:"Let's not forget the fact that Michelangelo got so pissed at the Ceremonial master Biagioi for saying "that's too much nudity", so he painted him into the Sistine chapel, naked with a snake biting his balls. And he also painted God basically mooning the churchgoers for lols. He was a great artist, yes. But he was also memelord of his time."

    You also have to keep in mind he’s going to have models to model for these photos so a lot of these anatomical details will naturally show themselves so it’s not like he’s pulling them from nowhere. Also his work is based on months and years of work, it’s not like he made his statues in an afternoon.
    It also helps that he’s a fucking genius.

    7:23 , about the Sistine Chapel part, I believe it's not artistic pride akin to Jordon's Pridefulness or something like that. I think its simply a sincere want to not make his art disgusting. Above all else, he himself wanted to see his creation the most, 1:19, case in point, the statue of Moses, he did not tell the statue to speak out of arrogance but out of pride and jest, because he was so elated of how perfect his art had become. Artistic pride can turn into pompousness which if you read the letter,notes of these masters :Micheal Angelo, Leonardo, Van Gogh, such conspicuous pride is non-existence. Infact, creative or open-minded people are the most critical of their work, it is shown in psychology. They will criticise themselves to death even when somebody else thinks , ah that looks lovely doesn't it. The vision THESE masters have is so grand (micheal angelo fucking analysing vein even though, I really think the priest just wanted him to learn succinctly more about anatomy and you know what , put any artist there , they would literally do the same. Its like if you are given a opportunity to learn about art, you literally learn everything even to the point of wasting time, its that type of hunger for art.) and un-attached to the mere human machination, it hard to understand how harsh they are on themselves. Van Gogh, depressing ass letter is literally what a typical artist on the PATH is like. People think that is a one of, far from it. Live to satisfy your artistry, your sense of wonder and beauty, not to prove to else of something. Also, his declaration in 3:27, again to an average person seems like profound arrogance but from his perspective, he would literally have torn that marble statue 100's of time until he got the statue HE wanted, HE wanted to see that HE considered the MOST beautiful just like with the molded painting in Cecilian Chapel. That distinct want for art is something, I think you kind of missed. Again in 7:23 , I don't think he spend 12 hours a day because he was a honorable man or something like that. When doing art ,you are playing half the time, you don't remember time. I doubt it was 12 hours everyday sharp, it was probably 12 hours average, but he did art as much he felt like 20,10,15,12 hr and so on. I mean the guy probably did art before breakfast, after breakfast, before lunch, after lunch, in the shitter he thought about art, while walking he thought about art. Art was a world more hallow than his own temporal reality to that man. Art was not what he did, art was how he viewed everything.

    I don't know like all things this opinion is subjective. Michelangelo's art was good for its time but I'm not going to act like in 2024 there aren't people who outshine him in every way shape and form. His popularity is more due to the Rarity and lack of value the artist had then his talents itself. And that might be a tough pill to swallow but truthfully there could very well have been better and more capable artists than him but given the time and the politics around being an artist we will truly never know. As for me personally, I just never find it that interesting when you can draw a hand really good. We all have hands I know what they look like I'd rather you draw octopus fingers
