39:41 is a what if situation. Look at the second bullet “with no change in variable costs”
Ang weird ng "Sunk Cost is irrelevant". You mean pag bumili ka ng bagong cellphone, hindi mo i-c-compare yung price with the current phone you have?
You can always do comparisons, but the cash outlay at the time you bought your current phone has already been done. Whether you decide to keep using your current phone or consider buying a new phone, you have already paid and spent for the current phone that you have. That's why sunk costs are irrelevant for future decision-making purposes in a managerial accounting and decision-making perspective. In real life, you can always do comparisons but after all, you have already paid and spent for the current phone you have whatever action you take in the future.
