Thank you for this. Maybe I wouldn't have abandoned Revit 10 years ago if I had this information. Now I'm relearning. Your information is great, but it was given so fast with little information I had to go second by second in some places to duplicate what you created. Thank you, though, this has been an ancient mystery for me!
Solid tutorial! I rolled this out at my firm, but it's been brought to my attention that people prefer the parameters to be Type Parameters rather than Instance. Their argument is that when you go to place another instance by selecting Annotate > Symbols, any note with the same number/different text will show up blank in the schedule. The only way to maintain the same number and text is to Create Similar or copy and paste, OR, to create them as Type Parameters. Has anyone experienced this difficulty or have an alternative solution?
is there anyway to filter the legend so that it sorts by sheet? so that annotations not used on the drawing wont show up for that specific sheet? like you can do with keynotes?
Great video...a hint that I find useful...I almost always use this key note annotation on Floor Plans. When creating the "View Type" Parameter type-in "Floor Plan" as the default value, so you don't have to select it every time you insert the annotation symbol. Doesn't matter if you copy and paste, but the copy & paste method is not always the most practical.
@@gilliantolentino8560 Thank you. I don't know what was happening, but the parameter pull down options were greyed out. I deleted the parameter and made a new one and it worked. This is great!!
Can anybody help clear up what it says at 1:14? Particularly the Type and Group drop down menus. The group has to be Text but I don't understand how it got there.
Yes, there was a bit of creative editing at this spot :) You must set both the "Type of parameter" and "Group parameter under" to Text. Check the blog post in the video description if you are missing a couple of steps
Thank you for a great video. I'm having issues with the filter setting "View Type" due to it not recognising text but only numerals. What's the easiest way to solve this problem?
I'm missing something. You're clicking so fast I can't see what you're clicking. When defining Parameter Properties for View Type, what are you clicking? When I create the schedule, I don't get the "Floor Plans" selection in the Filter Properties for View Type. I'm assuming because I don't have the correct properties selected. As a result, plan note 1 on Level 1 blanks out plan note 1 on Level 2 in the schedule. Thanks.
Hello, I am stuck at time 1:40. A have none of my created parameters there, only some generic, such as Type Name, Type Mark, Comments, Cost, etc. What am I missing? Thanks
Great video and tutorial! I have one question; do you know if there is a way to keep text in the view name parameter from appearing in the schedule title? Our office designation is Keynotes-(View Type). We add the 'View Type' designator to keep the different note block schedules organized. In CAD, it is an office standard for this title to only display the word "Keynotes" without the designator when the schedule is placed on the sheet. It is our intention to try to retain as much of the CAD standards as possible, while also taking advantage of Revit's parameter automation. Thanks for your time!
This is great but it doesn't work if you have more than one line of text. The start of the leader will no stick to the bubble but will move down to the middle of the text extents. Is there a solution to this?
Good question, I usually turn off the text visibility before printing.. it is used to help creating the note but the text itself is displayed in the schedule.
But what if you want the text shown also? I've wrestled with this and just cannot get it to align with the top line of text, as has been the norm for decades. [understood most people might not want both shown, but in this instance I'd like to]. If you know of a way to do this it would be appreciated.
It's helpful to note that if you click on the noted text and then click text visibility, it will disappear next to the number but still appear in the schedule. This will keep the drawing less cluttered.
Anyone know a way to attach annotations to model elements? It’s very annoying having to shift my sections and text fallouts after a simple shift of a wall. Why can’t I just lock them to the wall 😢
I created the Notes as shown above and it work perfectly well. But when I use the notes in 'Legends' to annotate wall types etc, the annotations are not reflected in the Note Block. Can you help? Thank you so much for the wonderful video. It is very informative and helpful.
this seems like a great way to do this. Here i was looking up keynotes in revit, and this video came up. I was actually thinking about buying this addin called Keynote Manager, it used keynotes instead of this generic family. Is there any benefit to using keynotes over this method? curious on your thoughts. Thanks again for the video! so useful, I am definitely going to do my elevation/section/plan notes like this!
Keynote can be managed with external files... which can be a benefit if you are super well organized. But it can also be a hassle to deal with the external files... I would say start by using the system described in the video. If you have A LOT of notes that tend to be repeated from one project to another, keynotes might be useful.
You probably created the parameters as Type properties instead of Instance properties. When creating the parameter, make sure "instance properties" is checked.
@@bimpure Thank you for your reply! It was on the instance properties. The only difference I did is there was no "Mertic Generic Model", so I chose "Generic Model" instead, would that be the issue?
@@zhangemma5748 check your "Family Category and Parameters". Mine was set to Specialty Equipment and didn't show up until I changed it to Generic Annotations.
You should be warned about teaching something dangerous. This is tooling in revit, not a BiM method to avoid mistakes and drawbacks. Typing a material name is not good. You should not type things. Let the label reads automatically the value of material name. At least use shared parameteres if you are a schedule lover. Apart from that I really appreciate the way you teach. Clear, short and straight.
Using material names is indeed not the best examples. We have a blog post specifically about how to do material legends: revitpure.com/blog/11-tips-to-create-interior-finishes-in-revit The plan notes remain very useful for instructions or elements that are not modeled and that you can't tag.
Thanks for this video, I have a question on the view type parameter, the video is so fast that it seems that the view type parameter is under Length and the group parameter under Dimension. But as soon as the you click OK it seems that both change. And when going to the family type box the View Type parameter shows up under text, so i am assuming the the "group parameter under" is Text. But, what about the "Type of parameter" which one do you use?
Everything is using "Text" as the type of parameter. Everything is grouped under text except Text Visibility, which is grouped under Visibility. I always edit the videos so they are short and efficient... in this case I might have over-edited a little bit :)

Just use keynotes, so much easier.
Keynotes are great, but they require more management and need to be pointed to a specific element to properly work.
