    It’s important to know that Worksets can be a valuable tool for schedules, and view templates on complex projects, just a note, that using worksets isn’t necessarily a rookie mistake. This is a great video!

    1. Explode AutoCAD or dwg in Model.
    2. Download free families online.
    3. Use worksets for visibility.
    4. Go back to CAD for detailing.
    5. Use fake tags and dimensions.
    6. Overuse 2d elements.
    7. Create dumb legends and plan notes.
    8. Over model small 3d elements
    9. Delete important elements by mistake.
    10. Moving elements by mistake.
    11. Place building far from internal origin.
    12. Place too many RPC families for renderings.
    13. Don't keep an organized project browser.

      It'd have been very nice if you had added the time to each point of the list so simply clicking on it you'd go straight to that point of the video.

    We all have been there LOL its been 2 years since my first Revit session and damn, I can say its a really powerful tool for the construction industry! provided you know how it works and you know how to tame the software to your needs

    Mistake 3. Using worksets for visibiity. Mistake12. Place too mani RPC for rendering... but if you want you can use worksets for visibility to hide them... :D

      I love paradox and contradictions :)
      I would say there might be a few cases where you can use worksets for visibility, although that technique should generally be avoided.

      Just put all the RCPs into groups then nest that group with the name RCPS GROUPS, then you can hide and unhide instantly. Yes nested groups are extremely powerful. But the big risk with it is the smart join wall features becomes a nearly unpredictable mess.

    Sometimes using workset to let say group and hide cable trays in electrical rooms and then just creating a call out to that room seems neater tho dont you think?

    You said "In some cases, a free family found online might be a good match for your project. If that’s the case, make sure to clean and purge the family first." How to clean a family for Revit? what is the easiest way t clean a family? Thank for your videos.

    • @milesschauers1563

      One of the greatest ways to clean up families is to use a plugin called Guardian made by IconicBIM. It gets rid of any extraneous properties as projects are imported. Not sure about your situation but it's the easiest way, besides going through and taking out anything unnecessary yourself. Might be worth checking out

      I have done this before and it can really turn the family into an unworkable mess. Remember this guy is trying to sell you Revit families they make as well.

    The only thing that makes me shudder with fear is when i see the cad linking without marking the "the current view only" checkbox. it's a must like unconditional reflex.

    • @bimpure
      @bimpure  4 года назад +1

      I agree most of the time "Current View Only" is the best option... but sometimes it's actually not crazy to link CAD on all view and use V/G menu and view templates to control visibility.

    Some of those dont apply for interior design (we have to model details). As for free families you can always clean them up.

    • @bimpure
      @bimpure  4 года назад +1

      Yes, in theory free families can be cleaned up. Sadly, that doesn't happen very often. Some offices have a team of family gurus that are tasked with "cleaning" free families to match office standards.

  • @aethelwolfe3539
    @aethelwolfe3539 Год назад

    Follow at your own risk. Our office has only ever used dummy tags. For some reasons curtain walls will not be smart tagged as windows to show up in window schedules. I have to put in shit tons of CAD drawings to make your architects still feel important. We end up having to use fake tags because they don’t like how the legend tags look. We also have to meet tight deadlines, so if we make a family I house it’s probably not going to be parametric. We don’t have enough people for that. And because they insist on using AutoCAD the origins end up so screwed up because it doesn’t matter to two dimensional people where the world origins are.

    • @aethelwolfe3539
      @aethelwolfe3539 Год назад

      Sorry we can’t use your basics template. Because it doesn’t look like AutoCAD.

    If someone recommends to do detailing in Revit instead of Autocad, it indicates that he has never worked on Large scale CD project. Things always move and shifts and consequently all those details done in Revit that has borrowed two lines of model column as their background needs constant coordination and updating!! Pretty stupid thing to do...you do the details in Cad and you are done, never need to update them if you happened to move a column by 2 inches.
