i love the way this guy explains the steps of the repair, he is very well spoken and is good at explaining his thought process as well as action process, one thing i didnt hear him add was about caliper removal, when removing calipers from rotors always take a small pry bar or large headed flat head screw driver to go thru the hole that is usually on the top side of most calipers and get in between the pad and the rotor and pry the pads apart a bit this will squeeze the piston of your caliper inward a bit and make it much easier to get calipers off and more importantly back on once you have let them hang and let the pads shift a bit, if you dont do this step the pads will slightly shift and the piston will slightly open

Thank you very much for your detailed video! Taking in my 2013 Ford Raptor w/ the notorious rear end whine. Rear differential bearing rebuild. I was a bit worried when mechanic mentioned possibly reusing my old shim. Thanks to your video, now I know exactly what he meant and why! Thank you 1A AUTO!
I used a long straight pry bar to take the old carrier bearing off. I used a lot of PB Blaster and loosened the bearing in a cross pattern and it worked, it took over half an hour, but the bearing is still good and no warps or damage.
You know you could have used that bearing separator after you cut the cages on the roller bearings, it would have saved you a lot of hassle with the cutting and the air hammer. I had the same thing happen to me on my Ford 8.8 axle and had to cut the cages but discovered the puller worked great for the rest I just had to use a garbage Chinese socket to use as a plug for the center.
Lol your absolutely right great tip doing this job today @ work I did the removal his way next time I'll use the puller , 1st time doing one of these this video helped a whole lot!!
I have an 05 1/2 ton f150 4x4 5.4L truck with some whining in the rear end differential. A mechanic gave me a price of $875 to put in new carrier bearing and races , pinion bearing and races and pinion seal. Does this sound like a decent deal or is it on the high side. He said it took him 3 hours to tear it all apart and put it on the bench and will be another 3 hours to put it all back together with new parts and charges $60 per hr. Thanks
I had my front diff axle assembly replaced on my truck yesterday for one taken from another truck, and I’m trying to do a tear down of my original one so I can see why mine was so noisy. For the life of me I can’t get the diff to slide out of the housing like around the 12:50 mark. I’ve pried on it every way I could think of. Any tutorial you could point me to for this scenario? Can a slide hammer with the right attachment work if I take out the center pin?
Great Video! If I don't use my 2014 F150 for any towing purposes, is it possible to switch out a 3.73 geared 3rd member, with a 3.31 geared 3rd member from a junkyard rear end. While I know this would not be ideal to replace my parts with used parts, my question is, are the 3rd members interchangeable? I am trying to improve my gas mileage and don't have a need for the low end torque of a 3.73 rear end.
This will be me in the next month or so. Mine has crazy backlash but it does have 191K mi. I don’t have the LSD and it’s 2wd so I’m considering going up a little from 3.31 to increase my in town mpg. This is a good vid for a home gamer since most of us are limited in tools for this type of job. Thanks.
Hello! I’m doing a differential on this same Ford, I have a quick question What size pinion shim is factory spec? I know is I can just reuse the old one, but I would like to know the size it is supposed to be Thank you!
29:10 Replacing the case or not you still need to measure your pinion depth to determine what shim size you need. You guys shouldn’t be giving these people false info on a job that requires precise measurements & adjustments.

Is it nessesary to put shims on the spider gears ?? I bough a brand new case and pinion kit with the gears and spider gears , spider gears fit very tight , no space for shims , bought the kit from ford dealership , if i dont install the shims would i mess it up?
I love this video thx much for the big help and as detailed as this vid it is and even did thing we shouldn't done but if not 100% sure of how u going to it dont do it or ur differential will not work right..... i defenily wouldn't recommend anyone this jobs and if u do it urself be very confident using the right tool and follow every steep even if take 4 days but do it right than not and pretty much will result on damage pinion ring gear or worse and trust me im a mechanic.. the right gear and pinion are not cheap..... with that small advice best of luck to all....
What would a typical rebuild on F150 LSD cost at the dealership vs local shop run (approx) I can order a rebuilt and exchange the core for what seems ridiculous at $2000!!
We need help, we have a 2018 f150 ecoboost and have had the rear differential seal replaced 7 times. Its leaking again the dealership just keeps replacing the seal only for it to leak in 1 to 2 months. I have made a file with ford canada about it. Any advice as to whats actually causing this repeat issue? The truck only has 38,000km on it.
how much torque does it takes to crush the collar?I can't get my yoke to stop rocking up and down I already used a torque multiplier and nothing I don't think I can torque it anymore.
Julio, the crush collar needs to be crushed with a strong pneumatic impact wrench, this process starts @ the 39 minute mark in the video, no real torque setting, he installed that tool to keep the yoke from spinning. When things started tightening up he would raise that tool, then let it drop. It should drop and stop, not swing back. And remember, go slow because if you crush the collar too much you have to get a new one.
+Devildog0311 We currently do not have an auto repair video specific to your year. You might be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your application.
+joseph albritton Thanks for checking us out! We did not have this particular size available. We would recommend getting the correct size however sometimes you have to do things unconventionally.
+pablo garza Yes, this video is listed to be for all 09-14 Ford F150 models. It should be the same or a similar procedure for your application. Hope this helps you out!
Not a rebuild. You never touched the clutches, which I wanted to see done. All you did was replace the bearings, ring, crush collar, and pinion. And you left the pinion at the wrong depth. You should change the description to replacing ring and pinion, with bearings. I'd suggest redoing the job completely and reshooting the video.
Torque the pinion nut to the minimum torque requirement and then check it with an inch pound torque wrench with a gauge on it and slowly increase the torque of the pinion nut by 5-10 ftlbs if needed for a higher in-lb preload don’t rip it with a gun ever feel is not what works with this use a torque wrench

I have a Titan 2004 truck and I'm experiencing clunking how much does it cost to purchase all the parts for a rebuild...
out of curiosity, how many of you had to disassemble your pinion again to adjust the shim? is reusing the factory installed shim a good rule of thumb?
Hi bro I really like your video. The only question I got while watching is why do we have to take the rear wheel off?
What size wrench or socket do you need to remove the cross pin bolt?
So technically the only thing that holds the axles in is that metal circlip? That's wild
This guy really messed up by taking the angle grinder on the bearings and races air hammer had no problem getting it off
You guys need to do the front differential please!
We’re you getting a wining sound at different speeds? Did the sound grow worse as the rear end heated up?
I have an electronic locking differential. Sorry if I missed it if this is. If yours is not a locking diff, how different will my work be?

So I have a 06 gto and I’m trying to rebuild my diff, for the most part is it kind of the same process?
Beautiful vid. All very clear - do you guys ship to UK?
Hello, what about a preload after the backlash was met ? Didnt you have to increase the shims a little bit ?
Is it the same procedure to remove the axles if I have a factory rear locker? I just need to remove my axle not change my ring and pinion.

Is the process about the same with an electronic locker???

They do make pullers to get those bearings out so you're not doing bonkers shit like taking an angle grinder and a cutoff wheel to your carrier...
Great video bro !!!!
38:48 he said disconnect this connector here !!🤣🤣 what connector ?
Thank You very much mechanic prophet..
How did you like that fluid smell? 😫
Maybe you could use your clamps after the first cut as your bearing got smaller.
great video thank u
The star-shaped gear has a hole in it. Does anything go in there?
Oops, no.
So i had to replace the seals.. and took out the axel.. now the e locker is stuck in on mode and wont disengage.. help
Thank you
Many thanks
Stupid question can't you just use an impact instead of breaker bar?
i swear, the music sounds like the sound track from "crash bandicoot 2", level "rock it".
